I've verified that older i810 drivers will cause the x window desktop to start, but only in vesa mode (?), as there is no hardware acceleration. It also loses sync when trying to play video of anykind.  Upon installing the i915, everthing is broken. Can't even get into X windows.   This can be easily produced by using an 8.04 or 8.10 live CD. It boots right up until X windows starts, then fails.

I've send a support request, they send me a list of cookie cutter responses, and I then chose the 'escalate my issue' option.  It's now sitting with intel.  Hopefully, they'll fix it, or remove the 'works with native drivers' off of there product page for this motherboard.

I hope this is fixed, because I was going to use this as my media center, next to my TV.  So, in my mind, and I say this while stamping my foot on the floor, "This product is not compatible with linux".  Freakin period. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I logged in just to reply to this thread.

... I've been trying to get this same board working with the x desktop... just plane work.  THEN install myth.  But I can't even get to the desktop.

I've started another thread under linuxquestions.org under hardware.   I believe the problem resides in the fact that the ch7021 (tv out chip) and the 945G (graphics chip) are not setup properly to communicate with each other. I've been working on this solid for 2 days now.
The VGA out works just fine.  It's the s-video that's broken.  When the linux drivers take over, the s-video is broken.  Everything up until that point, works great.

Here's the thread.

If you mean FTA as in DVB-T, then yes, the sky star is great.  Mine uses about 1-2% CPU usage. I think there are two sites right now selling them, one has a remote and LIRC dongle free and the other does not (for the same price).

Good questions...   I hope they get answered.

Also, was this "guide" ever implemented?  Is it for live tv? or just recordings? or music? or what?  I do remember the person flipping through the 'weeks of material'.

Well... I'll let ya'll be the guinnee pigs.  I've got my mythtv just the way I like it, and I'll be <insert your favorite curse word here> if I spend another night up till 4 in the morning with out having a high confidence...

Things I'd like to see fixed;

Mythtv. Period.
video vesa
text within menu's dont' "lead off" the screen
network

....these are only a few things, that I can remember anyway.

BTW, I found the diff/svn/svn site one time, and lost it....

Yep... I've moved on too. LMCE has the potential to be a great product. But it's not ready for the non-linux user. For me, I've spend many work nights up till 3 and 4 in the morning, and waisted a few entire weekends, googling, searching, etc.   It all goes back to that guy in the video.  No disclaimers at all.  I too, have gone back to mythtv.
I'm still here, watching, waiting, for 1.1, and even then, I'll wait for user's feedback.

By the looks of just the file name, it appears as though those files are for the audio (oss) and the remote control (LIRC).

Interesting result... perhaps others will chime in and verify that making it a non-dedicated machine solves this...    Can you list your sys-hardware?

again, this is a known problem.  Let me be a little more detailed though... The interaction between Pluto (the linuxMCE engine) has known problem with the interaction with MythTV. THis is a Pluto problem, and due to a lack of programmers and or desired to help out for free, it doesn't look like it'll get fixed within the next weekend (if you know what I mean).  There is a potential fix/hack... read my response in the post directly above yours.   I know of no other fixs at the moment.

Installation issues / Re: LINUXMCE Installation Failed
« on: May 11, 2007, 10:27:26 pm »
Unfortunitly, because of the "nature of the beast", the best way to debug something in linux, is to first understand linux.  Linux is not an operating system where someone simply inserts a CD and reboot's and bam - there it is.  It's trying to head in that directly, but its not totally there yet.   It's unfortunite that the video shown on the internet advertising linuxmce, has created a rush of new people on the linux boards, congesting and burdening forums and people as well as themselves with questions about "Hey, it's not working like the video says".   Well, I'm sure everyone in the world will agree with me when the I say that the guy in the video just downright lied. Maybe that's a little too extreme of a word. Perhaps I should say, He just down right misled everyone.

Long story short (too late), its going to take some googling, and searching this forum for some 'tips and tricks' to installing.  Personally, I've gone with myth tv, and am waiting ever so patiently for version 1.1 to come out (which I wouldn't be suprised if it were called 2.0).  One things for sure, if you plan on getting this going, be prepared to spend many nights up late, and destroying entire weekends to getting this working.

Looking at the brighter side of it all, perhaps this LMCE will get other programmers involved.  In fact, I'm a C guy (not c++), and I'm getting ready to dive into the code fairly soon myself.

This is a known issue, that probably, more than anything, needs a sticky.  All I know of is a 'hack' to get it working.
DO a search in the users forum for "Any solutions for disappearing mythtv frontend?".  At the top of page three is a potential fix. I've not tired it. I'm back to mythtv until V. 1.1  (or perhaps they'll give it a 2.0.). :o

Ya know... just for fun, I wonder if we could get that guy in the video to volunteer to make another video of himself getting tied up to a tree and a few people with nametags on their shirts saying "misled users", with tomato's in hand... and we'll, you know where it goes from there.   It would be good for P.R. repair.   ;)

Believe me, I've wanted to yell and scream 10 fold of what you did...

Well, for me... I whole hard'edly appreciated the work by the team that put this together... I think the idea alone is an awesome formulation of some very ingenious idea's and paradigm's.    If I had to give it any critisizm, it would focus on the video.  If nothing else, I hope the person from the video understands that at least one person (me) was frustrated and felt a little misled.

Other than that, I am really looking forward to getting some updates from the team. Until then, I'll sit back and troll, while trying not to peeve off any of the developer's... ;)

One thing I tried to do, in another post, is compound some tip's and tricks to installing this thing.  Look for it. It's messy, but a work in progress.
I did actually get it to work, but decided to wait, instead, for the updates, so I'll be myth'in it, till that happens.

Your in the right place if you wan't help... at least some people will try to help.  I myself, was up till 3 in the morning last night *_AGAIN_*.

what's the problem your having?  I think that for the most part, people that are not linux guru's, or at least know their way around linux, has a pretty good idea of how to get it working, and if they don't know, they don't bother to ask because they know it's unfixable with the current rev.    but that's of course, just my humble opinion.
