Installation issues / AVWizard Problem (Fresh Installation)
« on: November 15, 2017, 04:24:01 pm »

the last "fresh" installation is some time ago and i am getting more RAM and more HD space for my core, so i thought to try a 64bit-installation.

I downloaded kubuntu 14.04.5 and executed the mce-install script.
After finishing i did a reboot.
But after rebooting again i am not able to see the calming screen of the avwizard.
It is stucked with trying to maybe start it and something else.

I tried different nvidia versions as mentioned here in the forum with manipulating but without any success.

I was searching the log files for any hint.
One thing i found, which looks a little bit strange, was this, but i am not really an expert in this and not sure that it is of any relevance :)

AVWizard_Run....log is the first log after running mce-install script:

I put the whole log at this place:

My video-card is this:
VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [GeForce GT 520] [10de:1040]

Kubuntu told me to use nvidia-384.

I divided my harddisk into two partitions. So my old installation (14.04) is running fine with the same hardware.

Does anybody has a helping advice what i can do or have to check?

All the best!

Users / Timed Events / Play Media via Raspberry Pi
« on: December 02, 2016, 11:26:06 am »

now as i got this silent and fabulous media director doing his job, the next step would be using it for timed events.

I used the commands "Load Playlist" and "MH Set Volume" with Media Plug-in for my zotac zbox.

It seems that this is not working with the Raspberry.

Then i thought using the OMX Player Plugin would be the right way but i am a little bit confused about the configuration and cannot get it to work.
I have looked into the DCErouter.log if i can find something usefull when i start playing media with an orbiter but i cannot figure out what to use.

Can somebody give me a hint?
Is this possible?

Users / Raspberry Pi v3 as media director - slow nfs speed [solved]
« on: August 17, 2016, 03:24:36 pm »

i had some time and tried to use a new RPiB 3 as a media director.
the installation went fine and the md boots flawlessly.
But whenever i try to watch some media or listen to some music the only thing i can see or hear is a short fraction of the media and then it ends.

i have found this error in /var/log/syslog on the md:
Code: [Select]
Aug 17 14:43:12 moon97 kernel: [19352.261755] nfs: server not responding, timed out
I did some speedtest with iperf and that looks good:
Code: [Select]
root@moon97:~# iperf -c
Client connecting to, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 43.8 KByte (default)
[  3] local port 42484 connected with port 5001
[ ID] Interval       Transfer     Bandwidth
[  3]  0.0-10.0 sec   112 MBytes  94.3 Mbits/sec

so i tried to copy a file with scp from the router to the md and got 10.0MB/s.

and now it becomes really strange.
if i mount the nfs shares in this way:

Code: [Select]
root@moon97:~# mount -v -t nfs /test/
mount.nfs: timeout set for Wed Aug 17 14:44:36 2016
mount.nfs: trying text-based options 'vers=4,addr=,clientaddr='

the speed of copying a file is really really slow.

if i do it like that:
Code: [Select]
root@moon97:~# mount -v -t nfs\ TB\ \(sda1\)\ WDC_WD30EFRX-68\ \[58\]/TV/Family_Guy/ /test/
mount.nfs: timeout set for Wed Aug 17 14:46:19 2016
mount.nfs: trying text-based options 'vers=4,addr=,clientaddr='
mount.nfs: mount(2): No such file or directory
mount.nfs: trying text-based options 'addr='
mount.nfs: prog 100003, trying vers=3, prot=6
mount.nfs: trying prog 100003 vers 3 prot TCP port 2049
mount.nfs: prog 100005, trying vers=3, prot=17
mount.nfs: trying prog 100005 vers 3 prot UDP port 52139

the speed is normal and i can copy a 100mb file in a few seconds.

the zotac zbox which is my standard md in that room has no problems dealing with any media.
i also switched the network cable without success.

Does anybody has a hint what i am doing wrong or what i can do better?
Maybe it is time to call an exorcist?  :)

LinuxMCE Version:
LMCE 14.04

shame on me and really sorry for bothering!!!

I usually attribute this to bad cabling or switches.

The Problem was a router called TL-WDR3600.
I thought that the switch of this router would be no problem cause the zotac box had no network problems with that configuration and the possible weak point would be the cable but ...
Now i am using a D-Link switch and everything works great.

Again SORRY and thanks for this perfect mediadirector!

have to write a list for myself:
try turning it off and on again
change the hardware

Users / Orbiter shows no entries after update [solved]
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:22:23 pm »

after upgrading to Version: yesterday, orbiters won`t show any entry.
I tried sorting by different attributes like filename, performer etc. but there is just a black background where normally i can find the track name.
It seems to affect every media type besides radio.

I tried to reload and regen all orbiters but without any luck.
I also resynced the media in the linuxmce webadmin.
I can search for media with the search option via an orbiter and add it to the playlist.
if i try to click for example the album name to add it, there is only black void.

First i thought it would just be the new qorbiter but then i noticed that every orbiter is affected.

Did somebody encounter this problem before?

Is there something i can do, besides restoring the backup?  :)

Would deleting every orbiter and recreating it be an alternative?

Doing the apt-get update i noticed that it cannot resolve
After a quick google i found that it is not longer maintained. (
So can i just delete this entry from the sources.list and manually update if needed?

To update the system i am doing an apt-get dist-upgrade.

I am using LinuxMce 12.04.

Thank You all!

Users / Disk full / DCERouter died [solved]
« on: February 16, 2015, 10:48:01 pm »

due to not stopping a vdr record or something like that my disk went out of space.
After a reboot, ssh into the core and cleaning up space, i can reboot, but DCERouter won `t start.
everything else seems to start normal.
i can even log into the webadmin.

I am looking into the log messages, but i cannot find much.
if i kill the DCERouter process and try starting Spawn_DCERouter manually at the terminal, i see this:

I don`t know if this is saying anything about the missing DCERouter, or if it is just because i am starting it manually.

Is there maybe an abandoned lockfile somewhere?

Is there anything i can do?

Really would be very thankfull for any hint!

Ahhrgg did not see this coming ...  :)

Users / [solved] VDR Problem
« on: November 30, 2014, 03:52:49 pm »

I am trying to get vdr working on my 12.04 installation.

I switched from mythtv to vdr via the setup wizard.
Whenever i choose TV on any weborbiter the screen(saver) just freezes, but there is no tv.

I can see the remotecontrol on the weborbiter.
I got the streamdev-plugin and vdradmin working.
I even can watch TV when I call vdr-sxfe on the commandline.

My TV-usb-dongle is:

Code: [Select]
15a4:9016 Afatech Technologies, Inc. AF9015 DVB-T USB2.0 stick
I downloaded the firmware and it seems that it is working.
But the dongle  isn`t recognized as a device in linuxmce.

The other dvb-t dongle i tried was a WinTV-Nova-TD dual tuner. But i had problems with i2c read/write errors and it got added multiple times as a device in linuxmce.
(Didn`t delete them until now but i removed the dongle from the hybrid.)

I realized that the lmcevdr package is not installed. And if i try, i get this error message:

Code: [Select]
lmcevdr lässt sich nicht installieren:
Authentifizierungswarnung überstimmt.
dpkg: Fehler beim Bearbeiten von /var/cache/apt/archives/lmcevdr_1.1-10_all.deb (--unpack):

Do i need this package?

This is the shortened output of /var/log/pluto/169_VDR.log:

Users / Smoke detector Everspring SF-812 detection
« on: January 19, 2014, 02:37:35 pm »

i recently got this smoke detector.
It is still detected as Generic Tuner #75 like it is said in this ticket:

I am on 10.04 and did an apt-get update and upgrade today.
also tried to ex- and include the detector again but without any luck of correct detection.

I have now added it manually as child device of ZWave Embedded Security Interf and changed the port/channel number to the port channel number of the generic tuner. (Don`t know if this has the slightest chance to work, but there was hope and not much knowledge. :) )

What can i do now? Iwill be thankfull for any hint.

For the future:
Should i just reopen the ticket or is it okay to ask in this forum.
Really unsure about it and what version  had been fixed.
milestone 12.04 means it is fixed in 12.04 only?

thanks for this fine programm

Users / Autotagging
« on: October 13, 2013, 02:01:35 pm »

I read about autotagging in some threads here. Whooow what a great feature! i didn`t realised that untill now.
unfortunately it is not working for me.
The "linuxmceTag" is allready fully integrated into linuxmce right now? I dont`t have to download anything as in the wiki about metadata handling?
This is something from the log:

Users / Asterisk outgoing calls [solved]
« on: March 17, 2013, 07:43:31 pm »

first let me thank You all again for this great application.
really enjoying linuxmce.
I recently changed my passive graphic card from a gs8400 to a gt520 in my hybrid and it really boosts the video quality.

but in this whole update tingletangle i updated the system including asterisk.

now i am unable to make extern calls.

It was working just a few weeks ago.

here is my setup:

2 phone lines:  used for outgoing calls / no prefix used for incomming calls / prefix 9 (but this doesn`t seem to have any effect)

I only have softphones configured.

I can call every phone in the house and i can call sip adresses like

If i try to call a "real" phone number, i get this error (asterisk -r):

Code: [Select]
[2013-03-17 17:20:52] WARNING[17580]: chan_sip.c:5441 create_addr: Purely numeric hostname (00mytelephonenumber00), and not a peer--rejecting!
Really destroying SIP dialog '05b97f1759f5631663a257272b88e7c7@' Method: INVITE
[2013-03-17 17:20:52] WARNING[17580]: app_dial.c:2218 dial_exec_full: Unable to create channel of type 'SIP' (cause 20 - Unknown)

00mytelephonenumber00 is the number i got from and the number i registered at voipcheap.

recently i changed

Code: [Select]

in /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf mentioned in another thread.

So incomming calls are working quite fine, besides a missed call is not shown on any orbiter and i cannot access the mailboxmessage.

I googled for the error message but cannot find anything of use (for me).
Is there something (an extension?) in asterisk that translates phonenumbers to sipnumbers?
And did I somehow messed it up?

My past experience with linuxmce taught me to stay away from editing config files on my own. :)

Really would appreciate a hint.

Thought that I tried that already. But it seems that i haven`t.
Deleting all phone lines and adding them again did the trick.
...have you tried turning it off and on again.... :)

but the problem with the mailbox remains.

Users / [solved] VDR Changing default video directory
« on: February 27, 2012, 06:49:22 pm »

i am using VDR with a Hauppauge Nova-TD Stick, after getting into a lot of trouble with mythtv (DiB0070 I2C write failed).
VDR seems more stable to me at the moment.

But as i have a separate media harddisk i want to store my tv-shows under "/mnt/device/ XY/public/data/pvr/".
It is working, but whenever i restart my core/hybrid, i get the wrong owner and file-permission (root:public).
Therefore vdr won`t start.

Is it ok to put something like this

Code: [Select]
chown vdr:public /mnt/device/80/public/data/pvr/ -R
chmod 774 /mnt/device/80/public/data/pvr/ -R

into /etc/rc.local?

Putting User=root into /etc/default/vdr did it!
Thanx a lot, posde!

Users / [solved] motherboard for new hybrid am3/µATX
« on: December 05, 2011, 12:30:15 pm »

2 weeks ago i came across linuxmce. As i always wanted a htpc and i like getting linux on every machine at home, i really want to try it.
my main obstacle is buying new hardware.

I cannot find any µATX/AM3 motherboard with a nvidia onboard card.
Is getting a separate graficcard the only solution?

As a processor i was thinking about picking an amd phenom II or athlon II - not sure about x2,x3...

case: Lian Li PC-V351

TV-Tuner:Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-2250

I would really appreciate any suggestion, especially regarding the mainboard.
Sorry for my bad english.

all the best!

So i just jumped into the cold water and suprise it`s hotter than i thought.  :D !

This is the hardware i bought for my core/hybrid:

Mainboard: ASUS M5A88-M EVO
CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720
power: be quiet! Straight Power E8 400W
case: Lian Li PC-V351B
cpu-fan: Scythe Big Shuriken 2
system-hd: Crucial RealSSD M4 2,5" SSD 64 GB
media hd: an old hitachi 2tb (prices are to high at the moment for a new one)
RAM: Kingston HyperX DIMM 4 GB DDR3-1333
1. LAN: Intel® Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter
2. Wan: realtek onboard, after some trouble and using the r8168 module, it is working fine
DVD/Blue-Ray: Lite iHOS104 4x SA bk B

as TV-Card i tried a Haupp. WinTV HVR-900 -t/a USB
did a kernel-upgrade, but then i had problems with nvidia and acpi. now i think it was a problem with the other md and the cause was not rebooting after restarting the core. so i cannot really say if this would have worked.
Now i will try this card: DIGITTRADE DVB-T Stick USB*2.0*1.1*Windows Linux MAC Eee-PC

as for the question "Should i use the onboard or buy a separate graficcard?"
The answer is:
i bought this one:Club512 D3 X GF8400GS passiv R
too much trouble with ui2 and the onboard...

Thanks alot for this master piece of software. what a powerfull monster! it took some time for me to get into it, but the possibilities are endless.
everything is full of stars!
i am really happy that i got aware of linuxmce, even if i get a little bit afraid of my core sometimes... .
