Installation issues / Insteon EZ Flora 8 zone sprinkler control
« on: April 26, 2016, 06:36:48 am »
Has anyone integrated the EZ Flora 8 zone control?

http://www.smarthome.com/smartenit-insteon-ezflora-8-zone-sprinkler-controller.html

I've been able to add the device following the wiki on Insteon devices, and it looks as though MCE sees it, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get the individual zones active.

Not sure if i need to create child devices off of the main controller, or if there is another procedure for this.

A search brings up loads of tutorials and resources to learn programming, my hope is that I can get to a point where I can contribute...

If anyone is aware of a good resource, please let me know, I wasn't sure if there was a specific direction I should go towards so that I could more quickly apply my efforts towards MCE specific items...

Installation issues / Pay for help getting a working system?
« on: June 10, 2013, 12:11:19 am »
I've tried the best I can to get MCE going, but just don't have the coding skills or the time to be able to get a working system, and I keep running into roadblocks. It may be due to the hardware I've selected, but I can't figure it out....

Is there anyone in the Fort Lauderdale area that would consider providing help in return for a fee?

Installation issues / New ISO doesn't work?
« on: May 31, 2013, 06:02:41 am »
I am re-trying a 1004 install hoping my issues will be minimized using the latest release. I downloaded the file indicated on the homepage;

http://linuxmce.iptp.org/release/LinuxMCE-1004-final.iso

I tried burning/re-downloading and burning again but I keep getting;

                                                                                        isolinux : Disk error 10,AX = 4200, drive EF

                                                                                        boot failed : press a key to retry

I also tried burning at the slowest speed, but I still get the same error....

Am I downloading the correct file?

Installation issues / 10.04 Install issue
« on: March 09, 2013, 01:08:02 am »
I've finally taken the plunge and installed MCE 10.04. I got "Failed to setup X" when I tried the DVD install, so I followed the instructions on installing over Kubuntu and it worked. I got through the AV Wizard and saw Sarah, when I rebooted it goes right into flickr on the background, I get a cursor with 4 arrows that I can move around with my mouse, but I cannot get to anything else.

I looked for a way to get to something else during boot up but have not had any luck.

My Core is using

AMD A10
Gigabyte GA-F2A8585X-UP4
Using the onboard HDMI to a Samsung Display

When I click the mouse or hit some of the Function keys I can get a flash of something in the background that looks like the menu

Thanks for any help,

« on: March 06, 2013, 07:06:03 pm »
Has anyone tried this card for US cable? I'm on Comcast; called technical support and they said it would work, but they have no clue about how with LinuxMCE.

Users / LinuxMCE Core running on Dream Plug
« on: June 03, 2011, 06:09:18 am »
Has anyone tried running either of these as a core?

or

http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/t-openrdudetails.aspx#extern

Seems like one could put a nice system together using this as a core and then having a Guru plug;

at every display as a Media Director (low cost and low power consumption)

Installation issues / do MD's have to stay on all the time?
« on: March 15, 2011, 03:33:42 pm »
Is it practical to turn MD's on as needed, or do they take too much time to boot up? To save energy, I would like to only turn the MD in a room when I need it (similar to what I do now, when I want to watch TV in the Master Bedroom I turn the TV on)?

Users / Guru Plug/Global Scale Technologies as Core?
« on: March 11, 2011, 11:00:02 pm »
Any thoughts on using something like this for a core (or hybrid/core)?

http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/p-35-openrd-ultimate.aspx

My interest is in having a low power server to run MCE on 24/7.

If this is not ideal, would something like this work?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Supermicro-Intel-Atom-D525-Mini-1U-Rackmount-Server-/130482447286?pt=COMP_EN_Servers&hash=item1e615c23b6

I've looked through the Wiki and I'm a bit overwhelmed trying to find something that works and low power....

Thanks to all the pros

Users / Insteon
« on: February 04, 2011, 05:07:10 am »
I've been searching the forum and wiki regarding Insteon, it looked like there was some momentum behind it for a while, but now I'm getting concerned because I have it throughout my home and it looks like it may not be supported. Does anyone have it working? I unfortunately do not have the programming skill to work on this, and a call to Smarthome did not leave me with the warm and fuzzies...

Please share your experience...

Thanks

Installation issues / IP Phone (will any manufacturer work?)
« on: December 27, 2010, 11:00:31 pm »
Reading through what I can find, it looks like the preferred IP phone is the Cisco 7970; or am I incorrect, will any IP phone work (like a later version Nortel)?

Thanks,

GG

Installation issues / Anyone install door video/phone doorbell
« on: November 12, 2010, 08:55:49 pm »
I am looking to implement the following at my front door; it has a camera and from what I gather, it can hook into the phone system.

Does anyone here have any experience with this? Any watchouts?

Thanks,

Installation issues / RS232 and advice on Hybrid/Core
« on: October 22, 2010, 04:02:49 pm »
Sorry if this is basic, I searched but could not find an answer to this;

RS232; if I have more than one device that can be controlled via RS232, do I need a separate connection for each serial cable back to the core? (Can they be daisy chained or "networked" so that you would only need one serial connection on the back of your Hybrid/Core).

Also, saw this on ebay, not sure it would make a nice Hybrid/Core?

Installation issues / Advice on new install
« on: October 18, 2010, 06:33:13 am »
I am almost at the point of installing my system and wanted some advice. I have a gigabit switch, a couple of IP cameras (POE that run using a POE injector), and I may have a couple of Cisco 7970 phones also. My question; should I connect everything to the switch when I do a fresh install on my Hybrid Core, or should I install OS on "naked" system (nothing plugged in) and then start adding things one by one?
Thanks for all the help and advice, I've been on here for a while reading up as much as I can and I'm looking forward to finally starting.
