Users / physical address extension
« on: March 01, 2012, 04:24:13 am »
I was looking at what I had and I have 4gb of ram in my system and under heavy load I use up almost all of the 2^23 available to the system. Seeing as the limitation is software not hardware, I have 4096mb of ram. Is it posable to enable physical address extension (PAE) support in 8.10?

I was reading here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=957430 and I got the impression that if I do I will loose the graphics acceleration that I have.
Their is a how to build your own kernel here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=855511 but that's a bit beyond my know how and with all the stuff lmce has done since I added it I have no idea what kind of pain I'm in for if I go this way.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Users / Problems setting up mythtv and tvcapture card
« on: March 01, 2012, 12:15:25 am »
Ok first I did read the following web sites.
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Setting_up_MythTV
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Control_a_TV_or_cable/satellite_box
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Capture_Cards
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-2250

To start the first problem I have is when I open up the MythTV setup under computing, the bottom X, keyboard and power icon cover up the configuration interface for MythTV making it difficult to see if I'm hitting back or what ever. If some one can point out how I can fix this that would help with the rest of the problems.

Next problem, I have no channels, Ive done the schedules direct thing, even mythfilldatabase as:
Regular user using sudo

Users / Improving network proformance
« on: January 18, 2012, 12:47:30 am »
Hello all.
I was hoping for some help on this, I'm currently experiencing poor network performance on my hybrid Kb a sec transfers.
I'm using cat6 cable and a gigabit switch, Gigabit nic's on both systems.

The lay out of the network..
Cable modem feeds-> router feeds-> Gigabit switch
Gigabit switch feeds ->
Lmce
PC

I'm getting Kb a sec here not near what I would expect getting.
The drives I'm copying to are 5400 rpm and 130.28Mb/sec using hdparm on average.
I have achieved 10Mib a sec transfers on that system in the past before Linuxmce.

Suggestions??

Users / Need help understanding tv capture cards choosing one.
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:51:38 pm »
I've been researching tv capture cards. From what I understand that only clear non encrypted (Is it possible to record encrypted cable channels?) channels can be displayed. I'm hoping some one who more experience with this can direct me in the right direction.

I'm looking at the cards here on this site. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380047%201685342847&name=Tuner%20Card&cm_sp=tvtunersubcatstore-_-flashstorefront-_-tvtunercard more specifically http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116037 I'm hoping this will be the best fit for use in the USA..

I also hear that I can install more than one, having the availability to combine their abilities to watch different channels effectively increasing the number of channels one can use at a time. Is this correct?

If some one has had great success with a different card. Could you let me know what it was?

Thank you.

Users / Getting errors while coping some dvd's
« on: October 26, 2011, 07:59:34 pm »
Hey been coping my entire dvd collection to my core/hybrid, while ~95% of the DVD's copied fine and with out issue. Their were a few that didn't copy, rather they just hung their at XX% completed as seen in pending tasks. The only way I could get the movies to the core was to use handbrake. That worked, but I'd rather keep all the same file type on my core. *.dvd(*.iso) just for consistency sake.
Any ideas of what might be happing here?

I also have another problem. My video seams jittery, choppy, jerky, especially if I'm trying to watch one movie while coping another.
I can see the refresh line move through the screen, sometimes. I've asked others at my house if they see it, some do others don't. I don't know if this is a problem with my video card Nvidia 9500 or a problem with my 5400 rpm data drive.

video card = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121339
hard drive = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152245
I can post the rest of the system specks if required.

Users / Custom web 2.0 orbiter screen size.
« on: August 17, 2011, 03:13:28 am »
Hey been looking around I didn't see a post on this.

I wanted to know if their was a way to make your own screen size option, in the size selection options, in the orbiter size selection. I see almost everything their, but what if I have a web device that has a resolution that's not listed. Can I make my own sized screen web orbiter?
I see under the advanced settings their is a "ScreenWidth", "ScreenHeight". Are these text boxes designed with the idea of put your screen resolution here in mind? If they are do we just forget the pick you size option on the other page?
Thank you.

Users / Adding A content management system to your core
« on: April 15, 2011, 09:07:04 pm »
Hey I didn't find a lot about this and waned to ask. I want to add Drupal to my core, Drupal as you might know(allong other CMS) need access to MySql. Would I like to know is:

1 Is their any harm in using the same MySql data base?
After reading this http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=6994.0 I was turned away form that.

2 What kinda of problem am I going to make for my self, I know that the core uses MySql and I don't want to mess anting up in that regard. Just make my own entry's pertaining to Drupal.

3 Assuming that I can go ahead with this. What's the password to access the MySql server, where is it located, I know Localhost, but more details would be appreciated.

4 Any other things I'm not thinking of that people can point out, that would cause a headake would be nice.

I finally set up a test bed using VMware workstation. So I'll be using this as a prelude to adding to my production system.

Feature requests & roadmap / Linux Game Tree
« on: April 15, 2011, 01:10:10 am »
Hey guys I don't know if this has been brought up as it's fairly new. I believe it could bring some attention to LMCE.
Linux Game Tree. It's a TV gamming platform kinda like Lmce, includes Cedega. http://gametreelinux.com/
Have a look. Is this something that can benefit LMCE?

Users / Change The name of your hard drive
« on: March 30, 2011, 01:23:15 am »
Ok I added and formated a new drive and installed it into my core/hybrid told it to use LMCE file structure, but noticed that it named it by the model of the drive + some random number. Normally this wouldn't matter to most and under certain circumstances it wouldn't bother me; however I have, and will install several more drives of the same model. Once you have something that woks stick with it, right..
I would like to know how to rename the drives so it makes since to me when I'm about in SSH, or on the web page it's self, with out breaking everything.
Thanks.

Users / Edit Web Bookmarks in computing sub menu
« on: February 11, 2011, 01:27:53 am »
Hey I looked all over but didn't find what I was looking for, admittedly I'm not that great of a researcher so i apologize if this has already been addressed.

I want to add book marks to the computing sub-menu you know where "Web Admin", "YouTube", "Google Video", "CNN", "Weather", "Traffic" is. I want to add some of my own entries their.

Also while I'm asking about that, how does some one get VLC in the media menu, I did install it through the Admin web site like LinuxMCE Hulu player, but theirs no entry for it like LinuxMce Hulu player.

Thank for your time and patience.

Users / No webpage sound
« on: January 26, 2011, 01:54:56 am »
Hey all, I do apologize if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find reference to it.

To start, my problem is with webpage sounds, their are none. What I mean is I hear no sound form webpages. Examples include flash games, other flash movie sites like HULU. I checked my alsamixer settings as a super user as well as root. All the settings are un-muted and all the way up.

Thanks in advance

Installation issues / Setting options in installer.
« on: September 04, 2010, 05:32:08 pm »
Hello, I'd like to say that I'm very happy with LMCE.
I've recently installed the 8.10 successfully, and actually got everything working. :-)
The only question I have now is how to set installer options.
This is what I mean. In 7.10 their's a gui, that asks you if you want to use this system primarily for LMCE, or to start kubuntu, then start lmce manual.
It also asks if you want to install the media player software or to install the core software.
During my install of 8.10 I saw this options being passed in the terminal, and wandered where in all that code are the options are to modify the installer options.
Or could I just use the 7.10 installer.deb on the 8.10 dvd snapshot?

This is the code I'm talking about
Code: [Select]

Thanks all for your contribution. This is going to be epic.

Installation issues / Build from source.
« on: August 23, 2010, 02:34:16 am »
Ok, so I've tried all the separate wki tutorials on building from source.
I've only success I've gotten have been error messages.

If some one whom, has successfully built LMC form source, could direct me to the guide they used, and maybe tell me what I'm doing wrong?.
I would be very thankful.

Some quick questions.
when building form source, what kubuntu version am I limited to? for example 7.10, 8.04, 8.10, .... I noticed when using the 2cd, cd based installer I'd get errors when trying to install over 8.04, or use a 8.04 live cd when trying to install on 7.10.

Another question I'd like to ask is, can some one submit a how to, on how the dvd snap shot that's available was made?

The biggest reason I'm trying to build from source is because I have a ATI HD4870.

Thanks in advanced.
