So I finally got the right combination of time, hardware and disk space to be able to set up a working dev environment. I've tested to compile some modules and everything seems to be OK. First PoC will be to create a work-around for a very annoying bug from UpdateMedia that I'm sure all Scandinavian users will enjoy (and German, Spanish - or whoever have to use a media tagged with anything outside of the small English alphabet). Some news on that to follow next year!

Users / Ad blocking with Squid
« on: December 22, 2011, 09:54:51 pm »
I fiddled a little with Squid today and now ad blocking is working with LMCE. Follow these instructions: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Squid_as_ad_blocker

Installation issues / Access denied for mythtv on 10.04
« on: November 18, 2011, 11:42:41 am »
I get this error when running the MythTV Backend Setup : Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Running the solution suggested at http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,4158.0.html doesn't do the trick.
Did anybody else see this? Or is it time for a trac ticket?

Users / Mini PC / clam shell as MD?
« on: November 02, 2011, 09:18:57 am »
I'm planning to add one or two MDs to our house. Since there seem to be a pile of dirt cheap mini PCs based on the Atom platform I'm wondering if anybody have successfully done this? I'm thinking not to use the built in 10" or so screen nor use the built in keyboard - but simply to attach it to the back side of my TV or big screen and run it in the same way as my AsRock 330 ION. Are there any models that work better or are there some to stay away from?

I have been running my current LMCE installation without a flaw since beginning of 2011. Some days ago it just stopped. I realise this is most likely Linux related rather than LMCE, but since we have some really knowledgeable people here I'm giving it a try.
OK, so here are my observations:
- No network activity, neither on outer nor inner network. PING does nothing. DHCP does not deliver an IP adress to the inner network

I disconnected the Core and took it into my office and started it. All seems normal, except for when it's time for the LMCE UI to start I get a blank screen. Still no network. I can log into the core via the console and for what I can see all processes needed are running.
dmesg doesn't contain anything alarming.

Where would you look next?

Users / [SOLVED] MythTV not doing exactly right...
« on: March 04, 2011, 10:10:57 pm »
I've got some minor quirks with MythTV. I can watch TV, the EPG is OK and I can record. So far so good...
But the shows I record doesn't show up on any Orbiter. I can search for them, but they are not displayed on the normal data grid. If I change user or select another user under options they don't show up.
But - if I search for them I can find them and play as expected.

I also get double entries in the search result (one with picture and one without). Both point to the same .MPG file and play OK.

Another thing that most likelly is related: When browsing videos, I can only see files from the public folder. If changing user or selecting another from the option menu I still only see files from the public folder.

Any hints or thoughts?

Developers / GSD syntax error outside of my code
« on: January 24, 2011, 09:52:28 pm »
I've got a Ruby problem, and I cannot see how to mend it. I get:

(eval):3: syntax error, unexpected $end, line: 3

And since line 3 is outside of my control I really don't know what to do.

Line 3 : class Device_120 < Ruby_Generic_Serial_Device::RubySerialWrapper

I get this for the two device templates I'm experimenting with at the moment.

Any pointers or clues?

Users / New power controller: Tellstick
« on: January 07, 2011, 10:50:27 pm »
As of today, the Tellstick controller is supported by LMCE 8.10, see more at http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Tellstick
It's still basic support, Power On and Power Off are the only commands supported, but on the other hand the installation is Plug'n Play.

I'll appreciate any comments and improvement suggestions.

Users / UTF-8 characters stripped from FLAC tags
« on: December 19, 2010, 06:39:35 pm »
I have a strange problem that I first thought was in my Linux or Samba-setup, but now I've narrowed it down to be LMCE specific.
What happens is that tracks with non-standard-us-english characters are manipulated, either by LMCE or by Squeezebox Server.
Example:
Tag content before scan:
Track title: Älskad Från Första Stund
Album title: 17 sånger

After Scan:
Track title: (blank)
Album title: 17 s

At the position of the first non-english the tag is truncated.

Any hints?

Some info on the installation:

Users / DCS-5300G(D-link / IP Camera) detected
« on: May 17, 2010, 09:26:51 am »
I have a funny observation: LMCE detect an IP camera. That's nice, considering I have no camera... ;-)
It have happened 2-3 times, also after the last reinstall with the new HW.
It's not any problem per se, I just tell LMCE to ignore it, but there obviously is an error in the Plug'n Play system detecting a device that's not there.

I can provide system information (lspci etc) if someone want's to take a closer look at it.

Installation issues / Local disk showing up twice
« on: May 16, 2010, 09:19:29 am »
After a few weeks of more or less perfect performance from 8.10b my boot disk shows up twice. This means LMCE have found all media on that disk (like all the videos from the wizards). Looking at Devices, there's a disk under CORE that I suspect shouldn't be there.
SAMSUNG_HD321KJ (sda5) on dcerouter
Could I just mark Ignore = On to get rid of it - or is this supposed to be there?

I also have a 1.5 TB local disk in the same machine, but it's a NTFS/SFS partition and LMCE will not mount it. I suspect the problem is due to this unmountable disk, leading to the wrong disk being mounted.

Any thoughts?

Users / Roxcore DVB-T USB Receiver
« on: February 10, 2010, 10:41:06 pm »
Hi gang!

Today I bought a dirt cheap TV receiver but got into trouble when I realised kernel 2.6.28 might be required (not verified).
Any experiences on upgrading to 2.6.28 or higher? Or should I try finding which modules are required and recompile 2.6.27? Or should I forget this and buy a decent, already supported receiver?
