would it be possible in the future for users of the forum to link together posts put up on the same issues, to create a database of a single issue
e.g. i put up a post today about a mysql error 1604 there have been a couple of threads on this issue, it has been hard enough find these as these are not all the same subject heading but if the user of your forums had a button to link related items it may help reduce posts?
Just an idea

Users / Learning Video for Linuxmce files via console
« on: August 27, 2010, 12:22:09 am »
would anybody be kind enough to post a video on youtube or the wiki about learning linuxmce files via the terminal, for example under ubuntu you cd to /home/username/bin for local programs etc, it would be a great addition about learning linuxmce administration, might save a lot of posts if we could figure out which files to edit ourselves and learning by video i find is better than reading text, the video would hopefully explain whats in each directory briefly

I am getting this error from a fresh installation of linuxmce only last night, i downloaded the mce from the internet installation instructions onto kubuntu, everything went fine but when i go to login to the admin site via 127.0.0.1 or localhost and enter my username and password i get the following error, can anybody please tell me how to make a patch for this to fix it once and for all, as there are many threads on this issue but no solutions i can see of, maybe it should be reported as a bug. i am having huge trouble just trying to install base system of linux cannot do it by dvd, impossible and everytime i download it via internet installation i cant log into the admin page, please ask me to attach logs or whatever but i dont know which or where they are, i think i am using mysql server version 5.  the next part is the output from the browser when trying to login,:

Fatal error: mysql error: [1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '?)) ORDER BY OrderNum ASC' at line 4] in EXECUTE(" SELECT DISTINCT PageSetup.* FROM PageSetup LEFT JOIN DeviceTemplate ON PageSetup.FK_Package=DeviceTemplate.FK_Package LEFT JOIN Device ON Device.FK_DeviceTemplate=PK_DeviceTemplate WHERE showInTopMenu = 1 AND Website='1' AND (PageSetup.FK_Package IS NULL OR (PK_Device IS NOT NULL AND FK_Installation=?)) Users / burninglinuxmce iso images with brasero, help
« on: August 24, 2010, 08:20:50 pm »
hello everybody
i have downloaded the following images to be burnt to cd or dvd with brasero, they are downloaded from iptp,
LinuxMCE-8.10-22601-i386.iso
LinuxMCE-8.10-22640-i386.iso
LinuxMCE-CD1-i386.iso
LinuxMCE-CD2-i386.iso
LinuxMCE-DVD-i386-rc1.iso

i want to create a bootable disk for a fresh installation, i have made both a copy of the image itself and burnt it and i have also burnt these as contents, i however cannot create a bootable disk, when i set the computer to boot from cd, the disk will not boot, they aren't burning right or the image is not being burnt right, i have checked the md5sum of all and this in in intact, can anybody give me a step by step guide, i have spent days trying to do this and am getting hugely fustrated, i have created ubuntu disks from isos and never had a problem, please help  >:( >:( >:(

Users / Underfloor heating control with 240v actuators
« on: June 30, 2010, 09:56:02 pm »
hello all,
my brother has installed an underfloor heating system with 16 actuator connections which is split into 13 zones (some zones have 2 pipes due to length restrictions), the actuators work (open) when 240v electricity is supplied to it. i am having serious difficulty in finding a control unit which will receive the linuxmce signals, process them and send the 240v electricity supply to the actuator so it will open.

i have looked at the siemens s7 plc, but it is way too costly and it is proprietory, it also uses an interface which i am not guaranteed will work with linuxmce.
i have also looked at pc cards that will receive signals and send a signal to the actuator, the major problem i am having is the 240v electricity. if these cards are digital and are plugged into an expansion slot would that be dangerous as most electronics work on 12v d/c not 240v a/c. these cards in effect make a pc a programmable logic controller.

if anybody can please help we would be very grateful as we have spent 3 months researching it and have come up with no affordable solutions, we have got quotes for 15000, 3000 etc.

the whole project is being held up by this as my brother needs to turn on the heating to finish the floor properly and work has totally stalled.

he wants a system where it is controlled by orbiter and does not need thermostats in each room.

any help on this would be very very very welcome, thank you in advance

Users / upb switches, thermostats, hdmi
« on: September 29, 2009, 12:01:55 am »
hello,
i am installing linux mce in mynown house for home automation, i am now at the cabling stage, there are a couple of issues if anybody could help me out i'd be grateful

1 UPB switches: are UPB switches supported by linux mce, will they run out of the box so to speak and if they don't what is issues with it

2 Alarm panels: is it possible to work without an alarm panel and if so how do i connect the cabling of the sensors to the s port of a computer

3 Heating controls: how does linux control the heating, is it with an ir thermostat or is it ired directly back to the linux mce core. if so howis this done. also if it is an ir receiver would anybody recommend any makeor models.

4 hdmi signals: is it possible to wire a ring/loop system of hdmi over cat 6 to each hdmi wallplate so as to avoid buying a splitter, something like a ring socket circuit

5 smoke alarm/heat detectors: is it possible to get a smoke alarm sensor which will receive a unique ip address and how are they wired back to linux mce core, if not is there any alternatives to this maybe a panel and if so any recommendations

6 speaker system: i have 2 speakers in every room wired back up to the room where the core, do i need an amplifier to connect these to the core or can the computer directly handle the amplification of the sound, if so how would you go about doing it.
i was thinking of going with a system like the nuvo grand concerto but is quite expensive. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

any help on any of the above matters would be greatly appreciated, i apologise for the long list of stuff, any experience of any the above matters would be welcome we are based on a 50hz sytem in ireland 240 volt system

thank you for your help in advance
