Users / Crash while installing Nvidia drivers
« on: December 06, 2008, 04:55:35 pm »
Im following the instructions from the wiki regarding downloading and installing the latest nvidia drivers but im getting a weird issue during the process. I downloaded the correct driver, then switched to telinit 1 so i could install them, but it seems that once i do this, about a minute later the UI crashes to the main console and says *Restarting UPnP Media Server Fuppesd* I tried continuing the installation from this console but it told me the file could not be found.

What would be causing this?

Well I decided to go ahead and reinstall linuxmce after running into roadblocks trying to login to the server.

Anyway, that issue is resolved except now I can't get online! It did the updates at the beginning ok but none of my browsers are responding.

I downloaded and installed JavaMO to my BB and installed my Bluetooth dongle to the pc and it found my phone fine, but when I open the javaMO app, it says awaiting connection. How do I tell mce to use the bb as an orbiter?

Users / MCE cant find external hard drives
« on: December 05, 2008, 03:43:26 pm »
I have two external HDD's that I plugged in and setup with MCE. However, when I go to say 'audio' it will not find or let point to where my audio files are on these drives, although 'hard drives' are selected from the list. This is the same for video files and pictures as well.

im trying to get to root in my console using 'su'. It asks for a password which I dont remember setting one and any that it might be it comes up and says authentication failed. How do I check what it is or reset this password?

Users / Stuck on black screen after first boot
« on: December 05, 2008, 07:08:12 am »
So I decided to go ahead and install mce on my main pc because I was excited to play around with it.

It installed correctly, however after it reboot and loaded the first time, it showed the splash screen then went to a black screen where it has sat for roughly 20 minutes.

Is it safe to restart the computer? Or should I wait it out? Or is there a different issue at hand?

Alright so Im trying to complete my Christmas List this year with the last few parts I need for my Media Center PC. The only two things im still having a toss up about it is the MoBo and Processor. Heres the run down thus far:

OS: Linux Media Center Edition with MythTV:

Case and PSU bundle:

Peripherals: Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote (X-mas gift)- 30&sr=8-3

Microsoft Media Center Remote with Receiver (My understanding is you have to have one to train the Harmony, correct me if im wrong on this)-

I already have a mouse and keyboard I will use for this when needed. Mainly, Ill use the remote for any on screen typing.

GPU: Geforce 8600 GS (Already Have)

Tuner: Hauppauge WINTV USB (xmas gift)-

Processor and Mobo bundle-

RAM: 1GIG Corsair DDR2 Ram (already have)

DVD-Rom: Generic Brand (already have)

HDD: Western Digital 230GIG (already have)
Iomega 500GIG External HDD (already have)
Western Digital External 80GIG HDD (already have)

Any suggestions are welcome.

Any problems you can foresee?

Users / Cant Boot From LiveCD?
« on: December 04, 2008, 06:55:20 pm »
I wanted to take a tour of Linux MCE before I install it, but I cant figure out how to boot from the cd without making a partition first. From Windows, I ran the livecd installer, restarted and chose Linux from the Boot Loader but then it asks me to choose a partition to install to. What am I doing wrong?

Users / Linux MCE Build, MOBO and Processor Suggestions?
« on: December 03, 2008, 07:09:09 pm »
Hi all! Im very excited to get my hands wet with Linux MCE and I am putting together a computer to use strictly as my media center. I already have a few parts which are:

GPU- Nvidia 8600 GS

1 Gig of Ram

130 Gig HDD IDE (have a 500 gig external ill be using for movie storage)

I still need to choose a MoBo and processor though and was curious what your suggestions are. I dont want to spend a fortune, somewhere around $200 or less if possible. Ive built PCs before but never built one just for this use so I want everything to be compatible.
