Users / Random story I thought the community would like.
« on: December 14, 2009, 04:59:53 pm »
So, my wife and I are bantering back and fourth, giving each other a hard time and at one point in the conversation I say: "Sure, then you'd leave me for a younger man."

She gets a deadpan serious look on her face and says: "Honey, I'd never leave you, you'd take the movie server."

Needless to say I was stunned and had no retort.  We then laughed for twenty minutes.

Users / Sudden DVDCSS error on AVI files
« on: October 23, 2009, 04:10:09 pm »
I have a bunch of avi files that I've had on my server for a few months and always worked fine.  All of a sudden I'm getting DVDCSS errors when I try to play some of them.  As far as I can tell about 50% of them still play just fine, the other 50% get the error.

I've tried re-installing dvdcss using apt-get and it seems fine.  Retail DVD's both still play fine and rip fine.  The problem only occurs with avi files and all of them use to play without a problem.

So, where do I start troubleshooting?

Users / Updating nVidia Drivers
« on: October 08, 2009, 06:47:21 pm »
I'm running 7.10 and I just put an nVidia Geforce 8600 in my Core/Hybrid.  I'm having problems getting VGA to display on my Aquous 65" LCD.  I can see the post and boot but then a black screen in the A/V Wizard.

I've seen references to updating nVidia drivers and I'll probably try that tonight.  Is this the wiki to do that or is there a newer one I can't seem to find? http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers

Obviously I'll be looking at the xorg.conf as well, just checking to see if there is a more streamlined method of updating the nvidia drivers.

Thanks

Anybody know where I can get the Windows image for a WebDT 366?  I called DT Research and they were no help whatsoever.  They actually answered the phone "Hello".  LOL

Users / Wireless Touchpanel
« on: August 26, 2009, 07:39:36 pm »
This may be a stupid question but I'm wondering if I can get any wireless touchpanel computer (Like the WebDT but new) and run the weborbiter on it?

I'm looking for an available wireless device similar to the WebDT that I can buy new instead of having to buy used stuff that can have issues such as battery life, scratches, etc.  I hate showing off my supercool system with a scratched up WebDT.

Users / KDE Desktop Resolution - NOT OVERSCAN!
« on: June 02, 2009, 05:03:37 pm »
I have posted this before and had a few suggestions that didn't work out, just hoping something different/new will come of it.

I would like to change the resolution of the KDE desktop for the purposes of being able to read text when browsing the internet from my couch 10 feet away.  I run my MD at 720P and when I drop to KDE or use the computing menu to open a browser, the text is far too small to read from a distance any further than 2 feet.

Can I and/or How do I change the resolution of KDE to something lower without changing the resolution of the whole MD?

Thanks,

Dale

Users / "Manage Disks" on MD's
« on: March 11, 2009, 05:48:37 pm »
My MD's don't have a "Manage Disks" menu option.  This wasn't an issue until I wanted to play a disc in my Core's DVD drive.  How do I get the option to show on my MD's?

Thanks

What does karma signify by my name?  Why do I have 3 and why did it go from 0 to 5 to 3?

Users / Timed Event Problem
« on: February 26, 2009, 04:42:13 pm »
So, I setup a timed event to play a playlist in the morning.  I originally set it up to play on two of my MD's and it works great.  I decided I also wanted it to play on a third MD so I went into the timed event and added the third entertain area.  It was 2,3 changed it to 2,3,4.  Now the playlist only starts on the first TV and for some reason Myth fires up on the third, the second one simply sits there on the Photo Screen Saver.  This is true of any combination of MD's.  Any two will work flawlessly, i.e. 2,3 - 2,4 - 3,4.  Anytime I try to add a third, I get the above behavior.

Any ideas?

Users / Banned from IRC
« on: January 27, 2009, 04:41:47 pm »
Hi,

I'm not sure what happened but I left my computer logged into IRC last night and this morning when I try to reconnect it says I'm banned from the channel.

Is that a timed thing or can someone unban me?

Thanks

Users / Remove Scenario Categories
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:25:35 pm »
How can I remove a scenario category button?  For instance, I will never use the telcom feature, I'd like it if the Telcom button was not on any of my TV's.  How do I remove it?

Users / Stream Cable/PPV to multiple MD's
« on: January 13, 2009, 08:47:00 pm »
I'm trying to stream TV, specifically On-Demand/PPV to multiple MD's.  However, when I use the floorplan to play the media in multiple locations it tells me that there aren't any available Tuners.  Can I stream the feed from one tuner to multiple MD's?  If so, how?

I have my cable box connected to the SVideo port of my tuner card.

Users / ATI All in Wonder cards.
« on: December 22, 2008, 07:44:53 pm »
I searched the Wiki and the forums but only found very vague references to these cards.

Does anyone know if LMCE supports these cards for capture and if the remote is supported?

Users / Sharp Aquous with Asus eee b202
« on: December 11, 2008, 04:53:19 pm »
I'm not sure where to put this in the wiki so I'm posting it here.  If someone could let me know I'd be happy to put it in the appropriate section of the wiki.

It's a very specific hardware combination so I'm not even sure it's really worth listing in the wiki.

I have two Sharp TV's, LC-C5255U and LC-C4255U (52" and 42" LCDs).  After finally getting NIC and Video straight on the eee box (big thanks to the community for the help in that).  I hooked up the eee box to my Sharp 42 using a DVI>HDMI cable and the screen was flashing black (like the TV was trying to resync).  Did the exact same thing on my 52" Sharp.  It works fine if I plugged into the VGA port but I want the VGA port for my computer and 1080p on the MD.

It worked fine on a Sony 42" and a Phillips 52".  So after roughly 4 hrs. on the phone with Sharp the ultimate verdict was "We don't support DVI>HDMI"

So ultimately, I'm just letting people know that MD DVI to Sharp Aquous 42/52 HDMI = Go outside and play hide and go fuck yourself.
