Installation issues / "nv" driver not working correctly...
« on: September 27, 2008, 08:29:24 pm »
I thought I had the nvidia drivers correctly installed for my Nvidia Geforce 8800  GT video card, but LinuxMCE keeps telling me that the driver is called "nv" instead of nvidia.  Does anyone know what this means?  How can I get it to work properly with the right drivers?

Installation issues / Various Questions

Ok guys, I previously installed LinuxMCE over a previous installation of kubuntu, and it worked for a while, but then I messed some things up and kind of lost hope and gave up.  I'm getting ready to give it another go, but I've got some questions I was hoping you guys could help me with.  First, if I install from the DVD and not the cds over a previous kubuntu install, will it actually take out everything on my hard drive or can I choose a single partition to have it overwrite?  Second, what kind of support can I get for my Nvidia Geoforce 8800 GTS card?  I noticed that that card wasn't being detected or used by LinuxMCE, so I tried to install the driver using the installer from Nvidia's site (which worked with Gentoo back in the day.)  Then I edited some files to make that my default video card, and I started getting problems getting KDE to boot up and so forth.  Any ideas?  What can I do to get this up and running?

Installation issues / No sound driver
« on: July 17, 2008, 08:33:32 am »

I just installed LinuxMCE 0710rc2 over a previous installation of Kubuntu 7.1 The first time that I rebooted and went to the setup wizard I heard the sound at the volume adjustment part, but later decided to reboot to that menu again to adjust the resolution.  Now I am getting no sound (neither from the boot setup wizard, or even just in regular KDE) and When I launch the orbiter I can see the woman talking but there is no sound.  When I try and check to see which audio driver Linux MCE is using, there is just an empty grey box that I can't put anything in.  How can I get xine working again?  What went wrong after the first attempt?
