Users / Media during upgrade to 0710 RC
« on: April 24, 2008, 10:56:24 am »
If I upgrade from 0710b4 to 0710 RC and use the DVD for AMD64 and the 'Keep Settings' option, will my media that is currently on the harddrive with LMCE be maintained as well or should I move everything to another harddrive before the upgrade?

Users / Disappearing Firefox Window
« on: April 18, 2008, 12:29:16 pm »
I have noticed that while watching Youtube or Googlevideo videos with LMCE (using the "Computing" from the "Advanced" menu)  that the Window will disappear after 5-7 minutes.  The videos sound will still be present but I am left with nothing other than the flickr image and the two buttons in the bottom corners of the screen.  anyone know how to prevent this?

Users / Voip Problems
« on: February 25, 2008, 10:35:13 am »
I have had no luck at all getting my VOIP to work.  I am attempting to use Nufone and setting it up using the LMCE included wizard.  The wizard sets up an IAX trunk and writes my info to /etc/asterisk/iax_additional.conf.  a file, iax.conf, is also present and looks as if it is not changed at all during the setup process.

I have port-forwarded to the port indicated in the iax.conf (4569)

I have successfully used the Nufone account on a Mac OSX softphone (Zoiper) on the same network so I know it works.

I have also tried variations of including an externip=XXXXX.dyndns.org in the iax_additional.conf to account for the non-static IP address from my ISP (although, as far as I know this should only matter to incoming calls not outgoing)

whenever I try to call out, I get a "Call dropped: Normal clearing." and nothing else.

any ideas?

Users / Media not in Mediasync
« on: February 23, 2008, 01:29:19 pm »
Perhaps I am missing something obvious here but I will pose the question anyhow.  I have two 500gb sata harddrives.  this first one contains LMCE and is partitioned iaw the DVD install.  the second is divided into two 250gb partitions.  when I reinstalled on drive 1, I moved all the media onto drive 2 so as not to lose it.

now, LMCE recognizes all the drives and partitions and has automatically scanned and added the media on drive 2 to the database.  in the admin page mediasync section however I can only find the media that is physically on drive 1.  So i have no access to other media on drive 2, to, for example, add cover art.

i have looked both under the /public/data... and the /mnt/unpnp sections but can't find it.  any ideas where I can look?

Users / Wiki Spam
« on: February 21, 2008, 08:21:35 am »
I just removed a bunch of spam from the wiki and noticed from the changelogs that it is an ongoing problem.

There is a simple Captcha extension available that should prevent the bot submitted spam at:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit

perhaps it could help.

Users / Building a deeper understanding of LMCE
« on: February 15, 2008, 07:55:44 am »
Being excited about this project, but being a newcomer not only to LinuxMCE but also to Linux, I am running into the difficulty as to where to focus in terms of further reading/learning so I can understand what is going on under the hood, so to speak.

I have looked around and am reading all I can but the sheer amount of stuff out there on Linux, PHP/mySQL etc is overwhelming.

So any suggestions about good jumping off points would be greatly apprieciated.  (and who knows, with a little more knowledge maybe I can give something back to the community!)

Users / Mantis Registration Issue
« on: February 14, 2008, 07:30:32 am »
I was asked to report a bug in Mantis and after registering twice, (under different usernames and email addresses) I have not received the confimation email.

If any of the mods/admins here are also admins there, maybe you could take a look....

thanks

Users / ID3 Tag Weirdness
« on: February 12, 2008, 06:44:20 pm »
I had imported a bunch of mp3's from my itunes library into my LMCE machine and noticed that some songs were missing from the audio database.  Or rather their id3 metadata was missing, so they were not showing up when filtered for anything other than file.  LMCE was somehow not recognizing the ID3 tags.

To make a long story short, after much hair pulling and experimenting I noticed that only ID3 tags which were Version 2.3 were being recognized.  V2.2 and 2.4 seemed to be simply ignored.

I am not sure if this is a glitch or intentional but figured the discovery could help others who have had music seem to disappear...

Users / Installing Updated FreePBX
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:45:35 am »
I have had no luck getting connected to my VOIP provider.  While digging around in FreePBX, I saw that it was claiming to be an "outdated and unsupported" version of the software.

Not sure if this is causing me the problems but my question is, if I were to upgrade from the KDE desktop to the latest and greatest version from the FreePBX website would it cause integration problems with LinuxMCE?

and ditto that question for the latest Asterisk release.

Users / Problems setting up a NuFone.net VOIP
« on: February 10, 2008, 02:29:51 pm »
I am running into problems setting up my VOIP and I am not sure where to start troubleshooting.

I have established an account with Nufone.net and got all their settings for SIP.  (I know that the account is working as I was able to make and receive calls on a softphone on my Mac, which is on my external network)

Once I tried to configure the SIP setup manually and once I used the built in wizard (in 0710/3) which uses IAX.

No joy on either.

I am using a DDNS through an account with Dyndns and have tried several different combinations of activating DDNS on my router, in the LinuxMCE network settings and inserting the suggested code from the wiki in both the /etc/asterisk/sip.conf and the /etc/asterisk/sip_nat.conf files.

In FreePBX I get the following errors everytime I try to apply the new configuration

Code: [Select]
Could not reload the FOP operator panel server using the bounce_op.sh script. Configuration changes may not be reflected in the panel display.

retrieve_conf failed to sym link the /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf file from modules

Retrieve conf failed to copy file(s) from a module's agi-bin dir: chmod(): Operation not permitted
chmod(): Operation not permitted
chmod(): Operation not permitted
chmod(): Operation not permitted
chmod(): Operation not permitted
chmod(): Operation not permitted
chmod(): Operation not permitted

Initially I got a failed to copy due to permission issues on four or five files in the /usr/share/asterisk/agi-bin directory.  I chmodded these to 777 and then got the warning about operation not permitted.

I also noticed that the sip.conf file seems like it has not been changed at all after applying the configuration in FreePBX...

thanks for reading this lengthy post!

Users / Setting up Dynamic DNS
« on: February 08, 2008, 11:20:16 am »
I am now ready for the next step and would like to set up a Voip phone using a Nufone.net account.

In reading the wiki I saw that since I do not have a static IP I will have to use a Dynamic DNS server.  So far so good...

The Asterisk page lists a method of changing the /etc/asterisk/sip_nat.conf file to connect to the DDNS server ( http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Asterisk )

Of course there is also the option of setting up DDNS on the admin page ( Advanced > Network > Dynamic DNS Settings )

additionally, my router (i am running an external network over eth0 and an internal over eth1) has an option for using DDNS.

So my question is, should i be using all/any of these?  will they interfere with each other or are they mutually exclusive?

Users / Hang/Freeze during Idle (M2N-SLI Deluxe MOBO)
« on: February 06, 2008, 07:30:53 am »
I have been running into an annoying problem.  I have yet to be able to keep my core running for longer than about 8 hours.

It seems to freeze up during idle periods.  Sometimes I can ctrl-alt-f1 to a command line, sometimes not.  When I am able to exit to command, I see the following error:  hda:  drive not ready for commands.

I have read elsewhere that this may be a problem with the acpi.  I inserted an "acpi=off" line into the grub boot.  When checking my BIOS (a Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe MOBO) the acpi is listed as enabled, and the line is greyed out so there is no immediately obvious way to disable it in bios.

So, two questions:  1.  Am I on the right track with the acpi stuff?  and
2:  Is turning it off in the OS enough or do I have to turn it off in BIOS as well?

Bonus question:  Does anyone know how to disable the acpi in this MOBO?

Users / Installing Flash for Firefox on a AMD64 Core
« on: February 02, 2008, 01:18:54 pm »
I am in the process of setting up my core and slowly getting the kinks ironed out.  One of my first issues is that Flash support is not native to AMD64 setups so the Adobe process for installing it will not work.  (Since one of the biggest selling points I used on my wife for permission to buy all this new equipment was that she could watch her shows on Youtube full screen on the TV, I needed the flash plug-in quickly)

Anyhow, although this is a linux specific thing not a LinuxMCE specific thing I figured that enough new users of LMCE were also linux newbies so the solution I found may be of use.

I got this procedure from a German linux site (http://blog.jbbr.net) and it worked perfectly for me.

first in the KDE desktop, open the console

then type:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install nspluginwrapper  (it may ask for your password, which is linuxmce, if you installed from the DVD)

next type:

Code: [Select]
wget http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
tar xvfz install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz

then:

Code: [Select]
mkdir ~/.mozilla/plugins
cp install_flash_player_9_linux/libflashplayer.so ~/.mozilla/plugins
nspluginwrapper -i ~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

close firefox and then reopen and test, it should now play flash

hope other newbies find this useful
