Installation issues / 0710B3 black screen issues after install
« on: January 24, 2008, 08:34:49 pm »
The install seemed to have gone ok,  I get the kubuntu logo and progress bar, then it seems to go into the AVWizard and I can hear the girl tell me  "When you can see and hear me" but just have a black screen.  I read the Avwizard section and tried to hit 1 (dvi) & 7 (resolution) and press enter, but I still get nothing,  she just keeps talking.  I have an Nvidia Evga 7950 GX2 card in this machine with 2 DVI outputs.  I tried switching to the other dvi connect and reboots (ctl-alt f1) login and reboot) with the same results.  Do the instructions in the AVwizard still apply to 0710?  My monitor is a Dell 24" flat screen LCD. The capture card is hauppauge WinTV-350 .  Would the install try to run the video out of that card instead of my nvidia card??  These may be simple questions, but when doing a first time install and never having seen how it is supposed to work there just isnt any documentation I could find that tells you this stuff.

Or maybe I need a different driver for this card.  If so could someone point me to a section that gives details on how to install it from a terminal window?

On a side note I had Ubuntu 0710 and MythTv running on this machine with no problems.  The default Ubuntu install found my video and monitor and gave me video right from the start.

Westinghouse Unveils Wireless HDTV

Las Vegas (NV) - Users will soon be able to send high definition signals to their HDTV sets without any physical cable connection, thanks to a new partnership between Westinghouse Digital and semiconductor company Pulse Link.

"HDMI digital transport provides the full HD resolution our customers expect," said Westinghouse VP John Araki in a statement. Through the wireless HDTV technology, users will be able to set up their television anywhere in a room, and have HDMI connections sent from sources like HD DVD players or the Playstation 3 wirelessly.

The technology uses Pulse Link’s CWave UWB chipset, which has a 1.35 Gbps over-the-air signaling rate and can deliver 890 Mbps. According to Westinghouse, the signal was still as strong as 115 Mbps when the devices were 40 feet apart.

It "is an experience beyond comparison with anything that has come prior to now," said Pulse Link president Bruce Watkins. He claims, "This really changes everything."

The new TV will be on display and will make its official unveiling at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show.

Users / All in one PC can it work?
« on: January 04, 2008, 06:35:16 am »
Im trying to plan out hardware requirements for a new build once 0710 comes out,  this will be my first LMCE install so the terminology is still new to me.  What I would like to do is put a core in my media room where my dish network receiver is along with my 8' projection TV.  I wanted to put another station in my kitchen on an island.  My wife likes to watch tv while she is cooking and such and she loves the idea of having the show she is watching follow her from room to room.  Since there is limited counter space I thought an All-in-1  pc would be great.  Most of the time it would just be turned on and watch whatever is being streamed to it,
I found this combo that looks like what I would want, but would it work?  Heres the unit.  http://www.tangent.com/t_all_in_one_LCDPC/widescreen22.htm  I found a couple of others as well but was wondering if anyone had done one of these or could recommend something.

Also I cant seem to find what capture card that will work with Dish Network receivers,  could someone point me to the right one?
