Users / Trying to get a hybrid visible on a windows network
« on: August 15, 2009, 04:43:58 pm »
Hi all,

I've recently changed my setup to a hybrid (core/MD combo). I have one lan cable going to this machine. The MD is booted up. From my windows machine, I'd like to move files over to the hybrid machine, but the hybrid is not visible on the windows network. I've poked around quite a bit looking for solutions, but no luck with any of them.

Can anyone provide a working solution?

Thanks,

Speedyone  :)

After viewing some other posts, Do I need a second LAN connection on this hybrid to be able to route files over to the core part of the hybrid?

Users / New website login error - but able to log into forums
« on: July 26, 2009, 07:03:07 pm »
When I go to  www.linuxmce.com and try to log in, I get the following error message "Username and password do not match or you do not have an account yet." I'm using the same username and password that I use to log into "forums" (which is still good).

Do I need two different accounts? One for forums and one for the main page?

Thx,
Speedyone  :)

Marketplace / Acer Aspire Revo Desktops
« on: July 11, 2009, 10:52:19 pm »
I've heard that the Acer Aspire Revo Desktop may be the next hardware of choice for a LinuxMCE MD. These are currently not available in the U.S. and I've only seen them at "http://www.electronicmegastore.com/acer-aspire-revo-desktop-pc-atom-230-p-3249.html".

I would like to get one of these for use as an MD ,but not sure if it would work in the U.S. on our power grid. Does anyone know any further details on this?

Thanks in advance,

Speedyone

Installation issues / diskless setup failed
« on: June 07, 2009, 08:39:10 am »
I just rebuilt my core (AMD 64 bit architect) using the Kubuntu 64 bit CD1 & CD2 and the Linuxmce 64 bit CD1 & CD2. When booting up my MD (AMD 32 bit architect) at the point right after it announces itself to the router, I get an error message stating that diskless setup failed.

Can anyone provide a solution?

thanks Speedyone  :)

I've installed linux MCE from DVD 0710 onto a core machine and have the MD in a machine with an Iwill KK266 motherboard and a Nvidia GEForce 8400GS PCI graphic card. In the UI1 mode, videos played just fine. Then I got to playing around trying to get UI2 to work by updating the Nvidia drivers. Now I'm at the point where the MD boots up in UI1 and when I try to play either a video from the DVD drive in my MD or a video from the core, the video never starts and the MD goes back to the main screen window after a few seconds.

Does anyone know if this can be fixed or do I need to start over?

Thanks,

Speedyone

Installation issues / Loading Linux MCE 7.10 i386 32bit from CD
« on: April 25, 2009, 06:02:49 pm »
:) I'm going to load Linux MCE 7.10 i386 32 bit from the CD onto a fresh HDD. My question is, should have have my cable modem connected directly to the core machine while doing the install?

Thanks in advance!

Installation issues / boot to Kubuntu desktop or linux MCE
« on: June 28, 2008, 07:30:13 pm »
I did a fresh install of Gutsy 7.10 AMD 64 from two CD's.

I played around with this for a few weeks and when I'd go into Konsole, I would start at "speedy@AMD64".

After a few weeks, I decided it was time to install MCE 7.10 64 bit from the 2 CD version.

After installing MCE, I'm noticing that when I go into konsole now, I start at speedy@dcerouter.

Is there a way for me to setup my machine where I normally boot into Kubuntu Desktop and run the PC in Gutsy most of the time and then occasionally, re-boot into MCE to watch streamed content?

Any help would be appreciated.
