Users / Where are the Asterisk Files?
« on: May 16, 2012, 07:54:40 pm »
 ???
I have been playing around lately with the Telecom in LMCE 10.04. I understand now that everything asterisk is stored in a database.
However, I would like to know where it is getting it's information from. The problem is, in order for my SIP softphone ( 3CX from the android market ) to work, I have to ensure that the 'host' setting remains set to 'dynamic'. I go in through phpMyadmin, and I can set the field, but something is whacking my settings, and setting them back to 'Null'

Where is the script that changes asterisk located, and where are the files like sip.conf and such stored. I looked in /etc/asterisk, but they are not there, and something is filling in the defaults after a period of undisclosed time. I can change it by hand, and it works, but then when I use it later, the SIP phone fails to register, and sure enough, if I go back into the phpMyadmin for asterisk, it is right back to 'Null'

I also have a feeling this is why my MD phones are not working. Plus, if I had a sip.conf file, I could get my SPA3102 to register, by adding the appropriate line to it.

Thanks in advance.

Users / Strange behavior of the "Live TV" function with 10.04
« on: April 04, 2012, 05:54:41 pm »
 :)
Hi all. I have recently been finding myself using MythTV less and simply watching the "LiveTV <insert device here>" streams lately.
Here is what I have set up:
I have 2 Dish Network receivers
Receiver 1 - using codeset 1 - hooked into the first s-video/white/red of a PVR500 card.
Receiver 2 - using codeset 2 - hooked into the second or daughter card s-video/white/red of the PVR500.

Now when I select LiveTV-SAT-1 I can see the streaming image of the first receiver no problem. Whatever remote I am using works swimmingly.
But....when I try to watch the second receiver, all I get is a black screen.

Now when I use MythTV, both receivers function well. So it is not a connection issue.

I am wondering where I can look to see why the stream from the second receiver is not playing?

Any insight as to where to start digging would be greatly appreciated.

When the Dish PVR I have direct connected to my Living Room TV is recording two events, the wife might like to watch something while I am watching Game of Thrones, and this would cause a great deal of angst, as I am hopelessly addicted to that show. If she fires up MythTV while I am watching a LiveTV stream from the effective Tuner 1 in my setup, I would lose Game of Thrones, and she would take over the tuner. And she hardly ever uses MythTV so this would be a bad thing.

Thanks in Advance, and as always,
Best regards,

Seth

Users / Is it possible to put a core behind a core?
« on: November 11, 2011, 06:38:50 pm »
 ???
I was just wondering something. I am setting up a development core, to start working on some things in 10.04.
Do I need to pull out my old wireless router, run the internet to it, and then to the core followed by hooking up a second core to it.
Or can I put a dev core on the internal LMCE network?

I would prefer to do this, that way when I am not working on something, I can boot the machine up as a Media Director.

Thanks.

Users / I have a template for a device, how do I store it for later?
« on: September 30, 2011, 06:17:53 pm »
 ;D
Hi all. I have a question, that I feel as though I should know the answer for.

I have 2 types of satellite receiver from Dish Network. I have set up the IR codes and what not, and everything works well.

Here is the question:

How do I sync these up with the cvs so in the future, when I re-install, I am not having to create a new template over again?

I currently have 2 Dish ViP211k, one using codeset 1, the other codeset 2. I also have a Dish ViP611k DVR, which uses codeset 1, but is in another room.

To speed up installs, I have copied the IR codes to a text file and then when re-creating the template on an install, to save learning time, I paste them back into the new templates.

Is there not some way, I think of the word share, that I can upload the existing functional templates somewhere, for later retrieval?

Seems I remember doing this with my 7.04 install, back in the day.

Best Regards,

Seth

Users / Some help with scenario programming, if you please.
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:54:08 pm »
 :)
Hi all. I have recently fully automated the AV devices in my living room. I am now trying to wrap my head around advanced scenarios.

Here is what I am working with:

LG 50PV450 - Device 132 - USB>Serial>Null-Modem controlled  (works swimmingly)
Dish ViP612K HD-DVR - Device 54 - Hooked up to HDMI 2 on the TV - Controlled by USB-UIRT Living Room
RCA STAV4090 AV Receiver - Device 85 - Using this for digital audio out of TV - Controlled by USB-UIRT Living Room

There is a scenario already generated for Live TV Dish DVR -
#2 PK_Device (int)   54
#45 PK_EntertainArea (string) 2 (Living Room)
#29 PK_MediaType (int) 11  (I assume this is the LiveTV type, as it exists on all my satellite receivers)

Here is what I would like to accomplish. Every morning at 0630, Monday thru Friday, I would like it to turn on the TV, and change it to local news channel 16.

I have unsuccessfully attempted a Timed Event laid out like the image I have attached to this post.
Perhaps if enough useful information is gathered on this post, I will create a wiki page on how to use advanced scenarios, with examples and a breakdown as to what the PK_Stuff - entries actually mean by definition as to what they do.

Best Regards, and Thanks in Advance,

Seth

Users / DVD Jukeboxes? Are there any compatible with the system these days?
« on: September 14, 2011, 02:22:04 pm »
 :)
Hi all. I have recently been looking at my DVD to disk storage ratio and was wondering if any of the DVD changers on the market, or from the days gone by are still compatible with LinuxMCE. I would really like to load my series DVD's into the core for "on a whim" playback. However with the new HD content taking sometimes 4G an hour, even though disk is cheap these days, I would like to re-purpose my existing disk for recordings. But rather than have to run about gathering up series DVD's and movies, I was wondering if a Jukebox would still foot the bill.

Thanks in advance, and Best Regards,

Seth

Users / Anyone Have Insteon Working in 810 yet??
« on: November 06, 2009, 10:06:41 pm »
 :)
Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had Insteon working since they have installed 810 alpha or beta?

Please post here if you have it working, and any special steps to get it going. I am going to give it one more try before I switch to Zwave.

Thanks,

Seth

Hey all,

Been a while since I have posted. But after this latest update, I needed to compare notes. I have updated all my MD's and he core to the latest fixes. Now all my MD's seem to be happy with the updates. Great things have happened. Storage groups work, excellent. However I have notice an issue.

My DirecTV boxes are controlled by the core with a USB-UIRT, and they are hooked into a PVR 500 and daughter card. Now the issue I am having is this:

I lose the orbiter on the core. I go downstairs to the wiring closet and all I see is the mouse cursor. Thinking it is asleep, I click, but the Main Orbiter screen does not come back. Only after repeated mashing on the F1, F2, and F7 keys does it come back, but then after time it goes away. Since there is no orbiter, my USB-UIRT can not change the channels. So I reboot the core, and for a while it comes back, but then after time it goes away again.

Now watching it reboot, I see it come up like it is supposed to, but I notice the orbiter and all the device loads once, then it loads itself again. I am wondering if something is calling it twice in the beginning. And if so, what?

This is what ps -ef shows:
Code: [Select]
seth@dcerouter:~$ ps -ef | grep Orbiter
seth      8425 26341  0 08:50 pts/9    00:00:00 grep Orbiter

This is a bit from the log:

And if it is calling it twice, is this normal, and if not, where do I modify it to not do so.

Users / Orbiter Custom BackGrounds?
« on: June 18, 2009, 07:06:57 pm »
Hey all,

I was recently creating a new orbiter with the wizard, and noticed the "CustomBG" button. So i figured I would try it out, and added a nice little image to my weborbiter.
The only question I have is, What does it do? I did a full regen on my weborbiter, and loaded it up here t work, and it looks no different than before. I went back to the button in the webadmin, and I see my image is there. But what does it do?

Just a stupid question for the day.

Users / New use for scenarios, especially for parents!!!
« on: May 19, 2009, 03:29:32 pm »
:)
Ok, so I am really getting into scenarios now with my current LMCE installation.

In my home I have the wife, and two small girls, 3yrs old and 2yrs old. Every  night at supper time, there is always a flurry of activity, and griping about leaving the TV, and coming to the dinner table. So, to help eliminate this issue I have created the "Supper Time" event on my Lighting menu in the Living Room using the Advanced Scenario Wizard.

What this does is stops all media playing on both the Living Room MD and the Playroom MD. Then it turns off the lights. Next it turns on the Dining Room light. Now, there is no guessing what the girls have to do. They see the Dining Room light come on, any distractions on either TV are gone, and this helps resolve the issue of them not coming to the table.

My question is this.

Currently its stops the media, and this is fine. But it would be really cool if it would simply pause it. Now here is the question, I have it set to "MH Stop Media" and it turns them off. I am wondering if I use "MH Play Media" if it would pause it. I have not tried it yet, just thought I would throw it out here.
If I push play on the remote for either system, it pauses the media, I am wondering if "MH Play Media" would issue the same command.

This would truely make it even more cool than it already is.

Thanks for your time.

Seth

Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a way to adjust the delay that the TV screen powers off after exiting media.

For example, if I am watching MythTV, and I exit or choose "Off" from the UI2 menu, the TV on that MD turns off instantly. Like immediately.

Is there a way to adjust that time to say something like 5 minutes. That way I can after turning off MythTV, choose something from say the video menu without having to wait for the TV screen to power back up again?

I can't see a way in the templates, is this something to be addressed in the scenario for said event?

Users / X10 Motion sensor always in "Tripped" status.
« on: May 12, 2009, 02:02:46 pm »
Hi all.

I have added a X10 motion sensor, and EagleEye MS14a.

I have added it using the instruction under X10 in the wiki. I have modified my cm11a to be a "Specialized" interface as per the instructions, and assigned a House Code to the MS14a.

I added the motion sensor as type "4" for detecting motion. I a, wondering if it should be added as type 1 for security events? Or is there a way to add it as both types?

Either way, it is always in a state of tripped. Does anyone have any insight on how to resolve this issue?

Seth

Users / Designing a new Core-Only box, please review and comment
« on: April 23, 2009, 03:14:23 pm »
Hi, All,

Well I have decided to create a core only server, and I have been on newegg and put together a list.

I would welcome any input on my choices. I will add questions to each item.

And here we go:

Case:
NORCO RPC-430 Black 4U Rackmount Server Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219029
Looks as though it will not be too long like most server cases.

Motherboard:
BIOSTAR TForce TF720 A2+ AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 720a ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138117
This has the Realtek 8111C gigabit ethernet on board, so I will most likely need the Realtek fix from the wiki.
This will be the Internet facing NIC.

CPU:
AMD Phenom 8450 Toliman 2.1GHz 3 x 512KB L2 Cache 2MB L3 Cache Socket AM2+ 95W Triple-Core Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103283
Now this is triple core, so I am hoping that LMCE will utilize all cores? Would this be correct?

CPU/Cooling:
XIGMATEK Dark Knight-S1283V 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler
This is recommended for Quad core. It looks as though it will be fine for triple core. Any thoughts?

Memory:
OCZ Fatal1ty Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227364
I know 4G is overkill, but I do plan on having 5 MD's. So I am not sure how that reflects on memory usage. Any thoughts?

Standard DVD-ROM:
LITE-ON Black 18X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM IDE DVD-ROM Drive Model iHDP118-08
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106275

That would be it. I will be using my existing Gigabit Ethernet card for the Internal network. I will be using my existing storage, and tuner cards.

Please review the hardware, and if you know anything that may arise, a problem with some random chipset let me know. If all is coll, let me know, I will add the stuff to my cart.

Thanks again,

Regards,

Seth

Users / Interesting Video/Network/Xine issue.[Sorted]
« on: April 21, 2009, 03:36:03 pm »
 ???
Hi all,

Last evening I was down in the Man Cave intending to watch a show I had recorded. So I go to the video menu, select the recording, and start to play back. And what do I see, slow, sluggish video performance. So I figure that the network is just moshed up from running a week w/out a reboot. So I reboot the core/hybrid, wait and then all the MD's come back up again.

So I go to watch my video again, same issue. Well as I did not want another reboot, I fired up MythTV and watchied it from the recordings menu. And it played flawlessly. So no I am curious. So I drop out of that, try again from the video menu, same slow performance.

Out of curiosity, I fire up a DVD that I had ripped and it plays flawlessly. So I grab another TV show recording, Torchwood, from the video menu, slow dragging performance. Fire up MythTV, recordings menu, same show, perfect playback.

So here is the question. Is there something about MythTV recordings that xine is not happy with?

Do I need to change the format I record in, currently I record in MythTV at 720x480, .vs the default 480x480 for SD.

But then why does MythTV work so well, but the default video player not, at least for recordings?

This was the same on all my MD's.
Hardware spec outs.

Man Cave - P4 3.GHz w/ 2G ram, ATI radeon variant running UI1 Gigabit connection
Master Bedroom - AMD64 3400+ 2G ram, Nvidia 6100 on-board card UI2-Masked 10/100 connection
Playroom - P4 1.7GHz w/512MB ram, Intel onboard UI1 10/100 connection

However, the core/hybrid plays these videos flawlessly from the video menu or MythTV.

Core/Hybrid - AMD 64 x2  2.2GHz dual core 2G ram Nvidia 7300GS Gigabit to the Gigabit house switch (irrelevant I know, but it is feeding a Gig network switch)

Any ideas. Things I should look at. Personal experiences that are similar?

Seth

Users / How LinuxMCE handles Display power On/Off?
« on: April 17, 2009, 02:27:09 pm »
 ;)
Hey all,

I have an interesting query. I was wondering if there was a way to control the display/tv power off after media is done playing. Here is what I would like. It is very cool that the system powers off the Display after so many minutes of no activity. However, my problem is, that it shuts the TV off every time you exit media, be it watching TV, video, etc. Is there a way to not have it turn off after media, or immediately after media playback?

I also notice that because I have "Ignore On/Off" set to "On" that my bedtime advanced scenario will not turn the TV off. Only the lights.

Is there any way to resolve this. A setting somewhere that I missed. The "Leave display on for OSD" is enabled, but it still turns everything off after watching media.

Thanks.

Regards,

Seth
