Users / Core Transparency / OpenGL Failure
« on: November 17, 2007, 11:54:45 pm »
Well after 2 weeks of running and gaining headway with LinuxMCE I am back at square 1.
I moved my video card from one slot on the mother board to another making room for the bigger TV tuner card statred up and get the error message
Quote
Orberer failed to setup transparency. Please check if the transparen.... and runs off the screen

OK I will remove the tuner card and put things back and restart.  No Luck
OK during startup I will hold down the left shift key at the audio prompt and reconfig from UI2 to UI1, nice try but this time
Quote
Orbeter failed to initialize OpenGL

And all this time I can not get to the Kubuntu Desk top or du any thing but look at the Manager and periodic full screen popup errors.  close manager and b blank gray screen of death.

Reading elsewere these type of issues are usualy on inital install with unproven hardware not on a running system.

OK Now what any suggestions?

Users / Adding network content
« on: November 16, 2007, 03:15:50 pm »
I have two questions for the group.
1.   I would like to add xvid content to the Linux MCE database that is stored on a 750gig usb drive on a Windows XP machine.  The XP machine does not go thru the Linux MCE box on the Eth1 card but is connected thru my D-Link routed.  I can see the drive from the Kubuntu file manager.  If I go to the admin page of Linux MCE, Media files, Video (doing this from memory not at home looking at the MCE) I see the directory that media files are in on the MCE box, and there is an add directory that just adds a directory to the local HDD.  Can I point to a remote HDD or file?
2.   I also have MP3 files in directories that are Billboard top 100 songs from 1949 to 2005 and some times I just like to pick a year.  The Linux MCE structure as I understand wants Artist, Album format and many of my files are in the structure.  Others are 1 or 2 hit wonders and have no Album as with many of my old 45 records (I know I am giving my age away here).  Do I have to edit the attribute tags associated with each of the MP3 files, I have some 10,000 files and would hate to do this on each of the files.

Installation issues / Test bench to live operating core
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:35:04 pm »
Just a quick question I could not seem to find an answer to on the forum.  I am currently running LinuxMCE on my test bench computer; can I just take the hard drive out and place it in a new core machine with different video, network and audio cards? Or do I need to move the audio and video cards?
 ???
What problems may I encounter?
Should I re-run the wizard?
If possible this would save me a lot of work in setting up the new core.

Users / Adding Audio Files to Public Folder
« on: November 13, 2007, 08:22:35 pm »
Well I thought every thing was going my way, I performed a test and copied (1) artist with (3) ablums to the music directory from my Windows XP machine.  The world was great and they played just fine (installed Lame as found in this forum).
How to get down to buisness I transfered 30+ directories in one feld swoop, but after adding MP3 files to the public folder music in the same artist, album format nothing showed up??? :'(

I tryed a shutdown reboot, regen, and any thing else I thought would help still nothing but the first artist directory that I added (HA)

Installation issues / No Internet Connection
« on: November 07, 2007, 06:15:51 pm »
I recently installed LinuxMCE, I did not have the computer connected to the cable modem during the installation.  I have 2 Ethernet cards installed.  I now after install have tried to connect to the internet directly to the cable modem with no luck.  I rebooted with the eth0 ethernet connected to the modem and nothing, I have not tryed eth1 as I understand that this is where my internal network would connect when using LinuxMCE as the DHCP server.  I  would also like to keep the Windows machines and the LinuxMCE machines on seperate networks in the future, one serving up media (linux) and the other for internet trafic (Windows). Is this possible without 2 cable modems?

Back to my inital problem, I am new to Linux, do I need to reinstall or is there a fix, where can I find info to better diagnose the problem?

Installation issues / Fresh DVD Install
« on: November 05, 2007, 01:13:47 pm »
I am new to linux and MCE, but did down load the DVD and install.  The process went well, although during the setup wizard the system kept stoping and asking if I wanted to let found equipment drives computers, bluetooth and other devices to share.

Well I get to the LinuxMCE web admin and try to login HA not a chance, tryed the user name and default password I was given during install.  Tryed admin.... and searched the wiki install instructions, reinstalled everything just in case I missed something the first time, still no luck.

Help
