Users / Orbiter Default Media Display Order
« on: April 13, 2013, 08:12:14 pm »
Apologies if this has been answered, but I couldn't find a similar question after some searches. I have recently upgraded to 10.04 and everything is working fine except for this. Basically, whenever I do a quick reload on the core, all the orbiters show music sorted by Album. I then have to go into each orbiter, go to Audio, select Other, then change Album to Performer, then hit go. It is then good until the next quick reload. This is impacting the WAF. Also, it seems like every time I start an orbiter, it always asks me if I want to quick reload because something has changed, even though I haven't changed anything.

So 2 questions:
1. Is there a way to default the sort on Audio to Performer instead of album.
2. Is there a way to debug why the orbiters always want to quick reload whenever they start. Is this expected behavior?

Thanks in advance for your help on this.

Users / Help with RAID
« on: October 30, 2012, 02:22:39 pm »
Hi All,
I had a problem with my RAID array last night where a couple of my drives just disappeared. I went and unplugged and re-plugged in all the drives and now they show up. I had to do a "mdadm --create" to get the drives back in the array for some reason. In any event, the array now shows up in the web admin as "OK" with 4 drives. The problem now is that the XFS file system seems borked. I get I/O errors when I try to write to the array, but it reads fine. It appears I need to unmount the RAID array and run xfs_repair, but when I do a "umount -f /mnt/device/163" it appears that the array is still mounted. Is LinuxMCE remounting the array after a umount? If so, how do I umount it so I can run xfs_repair?

Users / Pictures not showing in Orbiter
« on: September 02, 2012, 08:52:08 pm »
Hi All,
I have been looking around for a possible solution to this and am hoping that I can get some help.
I found an old thread that describes my issue pretty well, but I can't seem to get it to work (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,6889.0.html). I had an issue where I had mounted a raid array as my home directory. I was told that that was a no-no. So I have since unmounted the raid array from /home (/home is just on the boot drive) the raid array is now just hanging out there. After a reboot, it was seen by linuxmce and mounted on /mnt/devices/149 and /home/public/data/other/Software Raid 5 [149]. Once that was done the mp3 and video files sync'd fine, however, no symlink was created for the pictures directory in /home/public/data/pictures.  There is only a symlink for flickr there. As an FYI the directory structure on the mounted raid was /mnt/devices/149/public/data/pictures.

So I tried deleting the raid array in web admin. Then ran sudo mdadm --detail --scan >> /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf  as the uuid's were different in the mdadm.conf file. (As per this page: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Create_RAID_in_LMCE) Once I did that, the web admin found the array, renumbered it device 163 and it started scanning the media on the device. The problem is there is still no symlink to /mnt/devices/163/public/data/pictures in /home/public/data/pictures and the images are not showing up in the orbiters. Also, none of the orbiters asked if I should use the new device, nor if it should use Linuxmce Directory structure or be public.

Long story short, in the 2008 post, there was a mention that permissions could be an issue,

Here is what the permissions are for /mnt/device/163/public:
drwxrwsr-x  3 myuser       public           17 2012-08-30 07:31 public

/mnt/device/163/public/data
drwxrwsr-x 22 myuser public 4096 2012-08-22 19:52 data

/mnt/device/163/public/data/pictures
drwxrwsr-x 161 myuser public  8192 2012-08-30 20:27 pictures

Thoughts on how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Rob

Users / Need Help with Media Database
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:47:25 pm »
Hi all, So I had an issue where all of my music showed up twice in the pluto_media database because of the RAID array being mounted twice. In any event, i fixed the raid problem by removing the RAID array from the Web Admin page. I then followed these instructions: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php/topic,6408.msg70571.html#msg70571

Everything appeared to work correctly, however, as I watched the UpdateMediaDaemon, it would find music for example, it would show up on my orbiters, but when I went back the next day, there was nothing in the orbiters, and the web admin page for Media Sync showed that none of the directories were in the database.

Any help on how to trouble shoot this?

Users / Need help with gc-100
« on: December 29, 2011, 02:18:23 am »
All, I have been running linuxmce for several years now (back to the pluto days) and have mainly used it to drive my whole house audio. I am now trying to get an old gc-100 to drive my home theater equipment. i have the old firmware version 2.4-06 (Yeah I know it is the one that has a problem getting detected). Oh and my external ip is 192.168.1. (running through a netgear router, I guess it is easy enough to change if I have to) I am running 8.10. Everything else is working just dandy.

So my setup is that I have an Integra Pre-amp with a Panasonic BR Player, a Western Digital HDTV-Live, and a Motorola DCH3200 cable box. I have manually set up the gc-100 according to the instructions in the wiki here: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/GlobalCache_GC-100

The gc-100 shows up under Core in Advanced->Configuration->Devices
I have created child devices like so:
         gc100
            Generic IR Transmitter IR 2:1
               wd-TVLivePlus
            Generic IR Transmitter IR 2:2
               Panasonic BR Player
            Generic IR Transmitter IR 2:3
               DCH3200

The Pre-amp, I have setup at the top level under Core connected via the serial connection from the gc-100 like this:
         Onkyo / Integra Receiver
            AM - OTARadio/AM
            FM - OTARadio/FM
            Tuner - OTARadio/Tuner

I'm pretty sure all the wires/ir cables are connected correctly as is the serial cable.

Not sure what the tuner stuff is. It just showed up when I selected the Onkyo/integra receiver.

So the issue. When I send a command to a device, let's say the wd-TVLivePlus and ask for confirmation in the web admin, I get this:

Message Sent succesfully.
/usr/pluto/bin/MessageSend localhost -r 0 117 1 201 41 ""
Response was:
RESP: OK

but there are no flashing lights on the unit itself and nothing actually happens on the device. I have tried using the orbiter and there is no response.

Anyone willing to help me troubleshoot this? Any and all help is muchly appreciated.

Installation issues / Help with Reinstallation
« on: September 07, 2011, 04:01:50 am »
Hi all,
I had to do a full reinstall after a failed motherboard. It had been running relatively stably until recently. In any event, I installed this on a AMD 990FX MB with a 6 core Phenom II, 4 GB ram and an old Nvidia 8400 GS. I also have 4 1TB hard drives in a RAID 5 array mounted on home, and a 500GB disk for the OS. I installed 08.10 using the DVD (version 23858). I upgraded the r8169 ethernet driver to the r8168 using thishttp://wiki.hetzner.de/index.php/Installation_of_r8168_network_driver. Make sure you do the
Code: [Select]
update-initramfs -v -u -k `uname -r`at the end or it won't stick. Also, took a while to get the iptables, dansguardian, squid, firewall working correctly. I had to make sure that the ip_forwarding was on before it all worked http://www.ducea.com/2006/08/01/how-to-enable-ip-forwarding-in-linux/. I finally have the interwebs working (to much happiness from the family;) however, I still have a couple of issues.

1. Cannot add diskless mds. There is no /usr/pluto/diskless directory. I tried invoking Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh however it puked on dependency issues with Mythtv. I am using a separate mythtv installation so I just commented out lines 188-194. It finishes running but there still is no /usr/pluto/diskless directory structure. If I start a diskless md, it looks like it starts finding the vmlinuz, etc. then pukes, saying it cannot connect.
2. When I boot, I cannot get the windows manager to start. It crashes back to the tty. I tried starting the AVWizard but it also crashes. I tried using the 1-5 keys with no results. I have been able to get the Orbiter (Core/Hybrid) running by running /usr/pluto/bin/Startup_Core-Hybrid.sh. however it opens as 640x480. I tried the nvidia-settings program but it does not allow me to change the resolution. The /etc/X11/xorg.conf has device as "nvidia" and one modeline for 640x480.

Any ideas on how to fix these two issues?

Thanks for any and all help in advance.

Users / Import playlists (m3u)?
« on: May 22, 2011, 06:38:22 pm »
I have seen a few old references to some work done on importing m3u playlists, e.g. here:
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5803.0

and I noticed that there is an "Export" button in the webadmin. I am still looking for an "import" function. I have a few playlists that are pretty large, but are in m3u format. Barring a "button", can this be done in mysql? I looked at the PlaylistEntry table and the only thing I couldn't figure out was the FK_File. Where is that number located? Any thoughts on a stand alone script to build a Playlist?

Users / Orbiter Size for Netbook
« on: April 07, 2011, 03:17:19 pm »
All,
I had this working correctly before, but I had to do a full rebuild and the only thing I can't quite get working is a new orbiter size for a Netbook. I actually use a few netbooks as orbiters and they all have a 1024x600 resolution. So this is what I did:

I used a spreadsheet to calculate all this and create a sql statement. I'm attaching it to this post (in open office format).

Calculations are from here* http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Custom_Display_Resolutions

Description='Netbook'
Width=1022
Height=575
ScaleX=359 (1022/2.8444444)
ScaleY=359 (575/1.6)
ScaleMenuBg='S'
ScaleOtherGraphics='F'

Sql Statement

Code: [Select]
mysql -uroot pluto_main
INSERT INTO Size SET Description='Netbook', Width=1022, Height=575, ScaleX=359, ScaleY=359, ScaleMenuBg='S', ScaleOtherGraphics='F';
exit

The Record looks like this:

Code: [Select]
mysql> select * from Size where Description='Netbook';
+---------+-------------+--------+-------+--------+--------+--------+---------------------+-------+-------------+--------------------+--------+-----------+----------+------------+---------------------+--------------+
| PK_Size | Description | Define | Width | Height | ScaleX | ScaleY | PreserveAspectRatio | FK_UI | ScaleMenuBg | ScaleOtherGraphics | psc_id | psc_batch | psc_user | psc_frozen | psc_mod             | psc_restrict |
+---------+-------------+--------+-------+--------+--------+--------+---------------------+-------+-------------+--------------------+--------+-----------+----------+------------+---------------------+--------------+
|      24 | Netbook     | NULL   |  1022 |    575 |    359 |    359 |                   0 |  NULL | S           | F                  |   NULL |      NULL |     NULL |          0 | 2011-04-06 20:16:06 |         NULL |
+---------+-------------+--------+-------+--------+--------+--------+---------------------+-------+-------------+--------------------+--------+-----------+----------+------------+---------------------+--------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

I then go to web admin and select the orbiter I want to change, select Netbook for Size,, Skin is Basic, UI is Normal Horizontal (16:9). Check Reset Router when done regenerating, then click on Full Regen.

Once it is done regenerating, I launch the new orbiter on my netbook. The outer dimensions are perfect, however the orbiter itself is broken. The bottom row, where you can select the user and the room etc. is blank. And when you select audio, you go to a blank screen.

If regenerate the orbiter with all the same settings except that I change the UI to Normal Horizontal (4:3), it generates an orbiter that is functional however it only takes up 2/3 of the outer dimensions.

I had this working before the rebuild but I didn't keep the settings I used, so I don't quite know what is breaking here.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Users / Help with Orbiter Crashing
« on: March 30, 2011, 08:08:32 pm »
All, I need some help troubleshooting this issue. I have a core/hybrid with 6 mds (all intel mini-itx boards). The core has a 3TB raid5 array that contains all of my media. The problem I have been having is that anytime I start an orbiter on a separate machine, first it always wants to regenerate the orbiters, even though I haven't made any changes. Then once it has regenerated, I can select some music to play and it will start playing. However, after 1-3 songs, the orbiter will crash, sometimes it will regenerate, sometimes not, in the end the music stops playing as well and I usually have a hung orbiter generation screen. This happens on linux boxes running the orbiter in wine as well as on windows xp boxes. This also happens no matter what MD I am hitting.

Last weekend, I  tried doing an apt-get update upgrade, on the core and all of the MDs and that didn't seem to help either.  I have been looking in the logs in /var/log/pluto but nothing is jumping out at me. Any help on troubleshooting this? What am I missing?

Installation issues / via epia MD hanging on netboot
« on: September 09, 2009, 06:28:32 am »
Hi All,
so I have had a 710Beta system running for about a year now. I had a hard drive failure so I thought I would install 810 Alpha from scratch. Well, it took a couple of tries and now I have a Hybrid/Core running. The problem I am having is that I have 4 via epia boxes that I have been using as md's for the last year. In 810alpha, they hang at the line that says Starting chrond. I knew from my last install that I had to install the openchrome drivers but I couldn't even get to a tty. Actually the tty's are there Ctl+Alt+F2 etc. but I can't log in. It allows me to put in a user name but it doesn't prompt for password. I have also tried ssh'ing into the box but it says "no route to host", so I am assuming that sshd hasn't started.

So I tried compiling the openchrome drivers in a chroot environment (/usr/pluto/diskless/XX), using the info in the wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Display_Drivers. Still no love. The one thing that I couldn't figure out was how to get the x server to use the new driver as there doesn't seem to be a xorg.conf file. I am also not sure that it is just a graphics driver problem as I can't even log in to a tty.

Another thing I noticed is that there is a Fatal ...modules.dep not found.
I fixed that by doing a depmod -a in the chroot environment.

I took a look through the logs but I didn't see anything obvious. It just looks like it stops. I do have a copy of the logs, so if there is anything I can share, I am more than happy to post them. Any and All help is much appreciated.

Users / Alpha Repo Sloooow
« on: August 30, 2009, 03:49:25 pm »
Hi all, Long story short, I have been a LinuxMCE user since the plutohome days, and I had a hard drive crash, so I thought it would be a good time to reload everything from scratch. In any event, I installed kubuntu 810 just fine but when running the install scripts, the apt-get downloads from the lmce repo are taking forever. The last time I looked it took about 17 hours to download 600MB. The stuff from the ubuntu repos comes down at 300-500K/s, but the stuff from lmce is in the teens. Is anyone else having this problem? or do I have a borked network setup?

Users / Need Help with Text to Speech
« on: January 07, 2009, 05:30:08 pm »
Just for background I have a linuxMCE 710b4? system up and running for a while now. I have 6 media directors that all work for playing music in each room. The core is a hybrid in the home theater. What I want to do is send a text to speech message to my kids rooms to wake them up in the morning :). Here is what I did:

I followed the instructions here

I went to the Core, and made sure that Text To Speech was checked. I went to Wizard-->Scenarios-->Lighting Scenarios and added a scenario to the Living Room (that is where I am when I want to wake the kids) Edit the scenario and change the name to "Kids Wakeup Call", hit update, change edit scenario to advanced wizard, from drop-down select "Send Audio to device". In #103 List PK Device (string), tried the device numbers for the mplayer on the orbiter for the kids rooms on-screen media director, and in #9 Text (string) typed in "wake up now" without the quotes, then hit save.

When I hit the "Test" button, nothing happens. Looking in the log, I get this:
Code: [Select]
Wed Jan  7 06:32:51 MST 2009 Restart
========== NEW LOG SECTION ==========
1       01/07/09 06:32:59       18 (spawning-device)    Starting... 1
1       01/07/09 06:32:59       18 (spawning-device)    Found /usr/pluto/bin/Text_To_Speech
05      01/07/09 6:33:01.091            Connect() failed, Error Code 111 (Connection refused)) <0xb799f6c0>
05      01/07/09 6:33:02.091            Connect() failed, Error Code 111 (Connection refused)) <0xb799f6c0>
05      01/07/09 6:33:03.091            Connect() failed, Error Code 111 (Connection refused)) <0xb799f6c0>
05      01/07/09 6:33:04.091            Connect() failed, Error Code 111 (Connection refused)) <0xb799f6c0>
05      01/07/09 7:35:25.871

One other thing that looks a little weird is, in the Commands box in the scenario, it has this: Text To Speech [Home Theater], Send Audio to Device. Is that right? I thought is was coming from the core, but because my core is a hybrid in the Home Theater, is it coming from the MD on the core?

I guess the other question I have is which device should I send the Text to Speech to? I have tried mplayer on the on-screen Orbiter for the rooms, xine, and even the MD device number. None seem to work...

Am I missing something?

Any and all help is appreciated!!!

Installation issues / Sound issues on MD [SOLVED] Kinda ;)
« on: April 03, 2008, 02:58:56 am »
Hi all,
I have been playing around with Pluto, then linuxmce 7.04 for about a year now, mainly using the core as a DHCP server/gateway/proxy/content filter for my home network. Well now I have a new house that I have wired for whole house audio, bought a new MC200 (mini-itx via mobo). I have gotten it to network boot, updated the openchrome drivers, gone through the av wizard (the test audio works) and everything seems to be fine. The problem I am having is when I go into the orbiter, select audio, select an mp3 (all living on the core in /home/public/data/audio), hit play, it just returns to the select screen. I have tried playing the mp3s from command line like mplayer xxxxxx.mp3 and it plays fine. Is there a log somewhere I can look at to see what is happening? Or is there any way to troubleshoot this?

I did make a change to the /etc/fstab. I changed the mount option for /home from cifs to NFS. I did that because (and I had this problem with Pluto too) when mounted using cifs, I only see 1 directory in /home/public/data/audio its something like _235xxxx and it holds .id3 files and I can't see any other folders. If I use NFS it sees everything. Could it be a database issue?

Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Users / Stupid Mount Question
« on: October 21, 2007, 07:45:54 pm »
Hi All,
I had actually asked this question on the PlutoHome forums and never got an answer here:

http://plutohome.com/support/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1256&highlight=

Hoping someone here can help. Here is my setup. I have a LinuxMCE 0704 dedicated core running. I have a 1.2TB raid array on it. I am currently using it in conjunction with a KnoppMyth r5f27 box. The KnoppMyth box records to the /home/public/data/video directory on the core over a network. The problem I am having is a wierd one. I want to use the KnoppMyth MythMusic to play music that is stored on /home/public/data/audio. This worked before I had KnoppMyth version r5e50. When I upgraded, I ran into a mount problem. When I mount the /home/public/data directory using smbfs I can see everything however, for some reason I get a bunch of smb errors and it takes forever to scan the directory. So I tried to mount using CIFS hoping that that would cause fewer errors. However, when I do a "mount -t cifs" it mounts, however the /home/public/data/audio and /home/public/data/video directories only show a "*" directory and not the actual contents. The /home/public/data/pictures directory is ok. Has anyone ever run into this before?

I've tried synchronizing users, dir_mode=777, file_mode=777, and nothing seems to work. I am hoping I am missing something simple in LinuxMCE.
