Users / DVico HD5 Gold Plus - analog not cable scanning
« on: July 24, 2008, 07:18:37 pm »
Have spent 4-5 hours today trying all kinds of different combo's hoping to get this card working. To no avail. I'm using Kubuntu 7.10 and LinuxMCE 7.10.

The digital cable scan works fine. I pick up all the available digital channels. I've been following this link to  get the HDTV5 Gold working:

The following command screwed up my dmesg output (far as I could tell everything was loaded as required)

In "Capture Card Setup":
Card type:  DVB DTV capture card (v3.x), and
DVB Card Number: 0

The following is detected:
Frontend ID: DViCO v2 or Air2PC v3 or pcHDTV HD-5500 Subtype...

Analog Options:
Video device: /dev/video, VBI device: /dev/vbi, Audio device /dev/dsp1, Audio sampling rate (None), Default input Television

Here is where I do not get what is expected -
Input connections:
[DVB]:0] (DVBInput) -> Digital                                <-----here I have my cable provider Brighthouse, not digital, listed
       ->[V4L:/dev/video0](Television)-> Analog         <-----ditto above here, Brighthouse, not Analog
       ->[V4L:/dev/video0](Composite1)-> (None)
       ->[V4L:/dev/video0](S-Video)-> (None)

I've run out of ideas. Anyone got one of these cards up and running? Would love to see someone's modules list.

Any ideas apprciated.

Bill

I'm a 9 year linux user.
First time mythtv/linuxmce user. Installed via Paul's dvd rcvd in mail. Installed without hitch (4 or 5 times, actually :>) ). I'm trying to run a hybrid box. Trying to get all bugs out before moving it out to my TV room.

Graphics card = nVidia NV43 (GeForce 6600 GT), using dvi out to my Samsung monitor.
2 tuner cards =
 1. Dvico Fusion HDTV 5 Gold Plus, which is seen and setup by linuxmce and mythtv and to which I have my QAM 256 Brighthouse cable connected;

2. Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350 which is not seen by mythtv or by linuxmce, but is correctly seen by the os, as the following is the last line showing with dmesg:
....ivtv0: Initialized Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350, card #0

The dvico card is picked up first in the boot process.

When I've attempted to watch tv mythtv says something to the effect "all devices are being used elsewhere. delete some programs now being recorded." I have nothing going on that I have started. I'm not knowingly recording anything.

Other than the Brighthouse cable I have nothing connedted to either cards.

What must I do/connect to watch tv on my computer monitor?

Any/all help greatly appreciated.

TIA,
Bill

My first post to these forums, sooooo, I'm a 9 year user of linux (RH-5.1 originally). Last 5 years with gentoo. Built a new box with an Asus-A8N-E (amd64) board a year and a half ago to install MythTV on. Got side tracked. Just discoverd LinuxMCE.

Downloaded the two kubuntu cd's and the 2 MCE cd's. Kubuntu installed perfectly. Tried many ways, though not yet the quick install dvd, to install mce. Could not get anywhere. Downloaded the source code and fired it up. Made it pretty far through, I think.

It bombs out here:

popd
I'm an utter noob to anything .deb, Any help or pointers appreciated. If I must, I will try the quick install dvd, though I would rather not.

TIA,
Bill
