Users / Quick Question on Receivers/Transmitters

Hey all
I am preparing to build a LinuxMCE. Looking at the google vids it looks sweet.
I have a Microsoft MCE remote and receiver.
Quick question has anyone had any problems using this device as a transmitter to control AV devices ?
Is anyone currently using this receiver/tranmitter and working fine ?
Or more to the point should I throw this receiver/transmitter to the nearest bin and get a USB UIRT.
any thoughts tips or links would be appreciated thanks
