Installation issues / Blank Screen after LinuxMCE installed Nvidia drivers.
« on: September 20, 2007, 04:05:15 pm »
Installed Kubuntu from CD. All working well.

Installed LinuxMCE from CD, it asks about the nvidia card (8600GT) and offers to install the proprietry video drivers and will need to restart. Select yes and it restarts.

Unfortunatley after it goes through the Kubuntu spalsh screen it then goes blank with just a flashing cursor. Any ideas??

As a newbie to Linux I did not now what to expect from the install. Every version of it (CD, DVD even the Pluto CD's) was burnt as an iso but would not load. All the burning was done by RecordNow! then Nero Express (both bundled software). As a last resort I downloaded a trial of Nero Burning ROM (Nero7) and burnt the DVD again. It worked first time! Clearly not all image burners are created equal

Installation issues / Screen resizes during initial setup

Hi,

I am an experienced system builder but Linux and LinuxMCE is a new experience so forgive my ignorance.

After MCE starts and you are presented with the green setup options, the process works fine until you select the type of audio connection. When you have done this, setup restarts with the picture 4x the size it should be leaving only the top left of the screen visible. If you just hit enter a few times it obviously moves through the setup process and arrives at the MCE setup desktop which is sized almost correctly, but the image quality is really bad (very grainy, text is very crude). I am assuming that there is some issue with the graphics driver. Our test machine has an 8600GT card in it. Nvidia do drivers for Linux. Should I attempt to use these?
