Users / Maker Faire / LinuxMCE demo setup starts today!
« on: October 19, 2007, 10:22:25 am »
Wish me luck. There's certain things we couldn't get ironed out, but I'm overall very impressed by how the end product came out, and I think we're going to have a pretty big response out of it.

- All of the media features will be on display
- HDTV works great (thanks SiliconDust!)
- Zwave modules are working (thanks Intermatic!)
- Fiire remote is very cool

Hopefully it'll be enough to show them the power of this system. I'll be playing the demo video in-booth as well. Thanks for all the support from the forums, especially to PeteK and 1audio for their tips and lending of equipment.

Installation issues / Orbiters broken...can't seem to connect to dcerouter
« on: September 26, 2007, 04:24:04 am »
Don't know what happened today, got my first orbiter up and running, sat back, ripped a disc, had a great time. Went and rebooted the box, now the orbiter won't connect for anything, and even reinstalling the orbiter package on my tablet PC gives the same "Failed to Connect" loop.

Any ideas before I format this thing and start over?

Sell the 19" panel it comes with, buy more storage, done!

Has the AMD 4000 dual core chip, a sleek looking case, and onboard nvidia 6150 graphics, although for $50 more, you can add the 8300gs to it (which might help in driver detection, giving you an easier install).

Hey, for the show I'd love to cycle through images from the Make photo pool. Anyone know how to change the default flickr channel to another? Thanks!

Installation issues / Nvidia Install Tips Needed
« on: September 18, 2007, 02:04:11 am »
Hey guys, I've pretty much ran out of things to try and I still can't get my MCE 100% due to it always failing in the installation of the nvidia drivers. Any tips would be appreciated, I've been trying it for three days with no success.

Problem I think is related to my panel, which needs a 1280x720 resolution @ 50 mhz to work. Somehow the std. 720p option isn't available on the VGA select on the wizard, and it doesn't automatically install the nvidia driver.

Any help appreciated, thanks. One board I've tried has the 6xxx onboard graphics, the other has the 7xxx and I've got it set at 256mb in the bios for video memory.

Users / AppleTV as Media Director?
« on: September 13, 2007, 07:25:09 pm »
I've heard of some folks with reported success in getting linux up and running on appleTV hardware.

It would be very interesting if someone got it working and loaded up linuxMCE on it.

Users / LinuxMCE Demo @ Maker Faire
« on: September 12, 2007, 06:11:13 pm »
Hey guys, I'm working on putting together a LinuxMCE demo for Maker Faire in Austin, TX on October 20 & 21.

I've got some volunteers, and even a sponsorship! So, hopefully we'll see some good (and some more users) come out of it.

Right now, Intermatic (Home Settings) is donating the needed Z-Wave modules, and I put in a message to Fiire if they'd like to lend anything to the cause.

I'll keep a worklog of progress as I go, and if you see me falling into any traps, let me know. I'm about a month out from this point, so plenty of time to catch and make changes.

Thanks all!
