Hello,

I am going to build a new hybrid core with the latest and greatest hdmi intefaces for 7.1 audio/video.  This means no SPDIF and no analog audio.  Just HDMI interfaces and I realize that I have to be very careful with the nvidia video card that I pick.  I already have the TV, YSP 2200 and satellite HD reciever.

So I have a HD satellite receiver for hdmi input and I am trying to figure out what hardware and what configuration I need to integrate the satellite receiver for tv pass through so that when a telephone call comes through while I am watching satellite tv the telephone call header information comes up on the TV.

I was just going to use the sound bar as the focal point for my devices like linuxmce and satellite receiver but then realized i would not have the phone integration on the tv or any other services from the core while watching tv unless I integrate the  HD Satellite receiver into the hybrid core.

Is there a road map for 64 bit support on 810?

Installation issues / Linuxmce-810 64 bit support question
« on: March 18, 2010, 07:56:51 pm »
Hello,

The wiki for installing 810 beta states that only the 32 bit version of kubuntu is supported at this time.  Are there plans to support the 64 bit version of kubuntu?  If so is there a time line/frame being considered.

No worries, just asking.

Cheers

Installation issues / New Core Install

Hello:

I have my LMCE up and running as a pure core/file server.
The main LMCE menu is there.   I checked out all the functions from this menu and they seem to be fine.

I then created a new administrator id.   Success.
I then attempted to log in under the web admin localhost/browswer on the core/server machine.

The first time I tried to log in I received a log in error message.   I guess I typed the password wrong!   ::)

So then i re entered the password and the verification process started working.

Unfortunately the localhost/browser log in keeps coming back with a message, "resend".   I keep clicking "resend" and seem to be stuck in a loop as after clicking resend the localhost/browser returns with "resend".

I crashed the server and rebooted.   everything looks good so I tried to log in again via the localhost/browser and I keep getting the local host browser message from the log in window "resend".   Any ideas.   I have been searching the forums with no luck on finding a similar issue

Installation issues / i386 install with cd's
« on: May 29, 2008, 04:53:40 am »
I have installed a new copy of kubuntu 710

then began installing the 2 CD set of LMCE 710.

It gets to this step "You can see the message about the Linux MCE system installation. //  Installation can take a long time"

This process runs for 20 - 30 minutes.   I have run it a few times now.  Each time during this process the system abruptly reboots on its own.
When I look at the LMCE log all that it shows is the last package it was installing.  no error messages.   Just like what is in the install window above.

And I can not blame it on any particular package as the first time it ran for 37 minuts, the second time I am not sure and the third time it ran 28 minutes.

After that I decided to come here and start looking for help.   Any ideas?

Installation issues / downloading Kubuntu 710 ISO's
« on: May 28, 2008, 02:50:13 pm »
It seems like this release is not available anymore from Kubuntu.

Since Kubuntu 710 ISO live cd is a dependency for LMCE 710 perhaps the Kubuntu 710 ISO's should be kept on the LMCE mirrors.   How else can someone get the Kubuntu 710 "Gutsy" ISO as dependency of LMCE?

Cheers

Installation issues / Set-Up 0710

I am planning a 0710 "core" set up and have a few questions.

When I set up multiple media directors around the home, i am planning on not using HDD in the MD's.   I know you are going to say, well this is how the system is intended to be operated so I ask,

  1) Using different MD hardware configurations like "video cards" and "audio cards, will this be a problem for the MD's at boot time (boot from LAN card) for loading the proper video and audio drivers on each device.   I am sure I will be told that this is not a problem, so anyone that can post some tips, tricks and a good "how to" is much appreciated by myself.    and my next question about the MD's configuration is

  2) what about the /swap drive (paging device).  As I will not be using a HDD in each MD will paging occur over the LAN on the "cores" HDD if more RAM is required?

  3)  I assume a network laser printer is also supported on the DHCP LAN, does anyone have any network scanning ideas/info?

  4)  As the MD's are essentially a basic computing device, can "open office" run on the MD's as well for desktop computing?  I also assume mozilla or kbrowser will work as well.

thanks for your help

Feature requests & roadmap / sqlcvs part II
« on: August 23, 2007, 10:10:52 pm »
due to the nature of the application we are considering for LMCE;

has any one given thought to using a proven, open source, sql dbms like postgresql instead of sqlcvs?

My understanding is postgresql could manage the movie and music files within the mission critical database and that support, performance and reliability issues would be greately reduced when comparing it to the sqlcvs functions and features.   Many "large" companies world wide use postgresql for these exact reasons for managing the multi terrabyte databases and postgresql already comes bundled in many free linux distros.

Feature requests & roadmap / Kubunto Linux
« on: August 23, 2007, 08:03:51 pm »
Hello,

I do not have any issues with LMCE using the Kubunto distro.

It is either not clear in the documentation or not stated but, it is my understanding that LMCE runs only the 32 bit version of Kubunto Linux.  Is that statement correct?

If that statement is correct, are there plans to have LMCE run on the 64 bit version of Kubuntu?   Perhaps this is a bigger task then just recompiling and testing and involves reworking much of the module coding as well.

Your insight is much appreciated.

Hello,

Are the media files like movies and music stored in the sqlcvs database or are the media files stored in flat file system of linux?
