Users / LinuxMCE and E-mail
« on: August 24, 2007, 08:46:34 pm »
is there a way to make it work with email services in the same way Microsoft's exchange server or RIM's blackberry's services work

so it provides and email pull service that delivers emails as soon as they are received onto the system?

i say this because MCE already works with voicemail, routing calls etc, so is there a way to make it work with email?

thanks

Installation issues / Won't Install..
« on: August 24, 2007, 06:42:54 am »
The Quick Install DVD just wont install for me, I've re-burned it countless times and it still wont work

i insert the CD, turnt he machine on (or restart if it was on) and on boot it says

unknown keyword in config file

could not find the kernel image: linux

boot:

and nothing works

could it be my machine?

1 Ghz celeron and 256 ram (its an old machine i just wanted to try this out before i get a dedicated machine)

also, how well does this work on VMware and such?

is it possible for me to try it in VMware on my system without any problems?

thanks

Users / Windows PC as a Media Director?
« on: July 26, 2007, 08:09:57 pm »
basically i have 3 PCs in different areas of the house

im going to build a new one for LMCE that ill place elsewhere

basically, can i use these PCs as media directors, without having to uninstall the operating systems as i'd need them for generic PC stuff, email, chatting, web surfing etc. it said it was possible in a linuxmce v windows mce video

is there a way i can still use them to watch stuff from the linuxMCE machine?

also does this work with a 802.11n connection? as i really dont want wires running around the house

also, will a nokia 770 work well as an orbiter for all the computers? using wifi or something

ill also need to control a few X10 home automation equipment, for use with the nokia 770

i dont know how im going to set all this up

im a total linux n00b, so please be kind

thanks
