Users / Re: Aeotec Z-stick Gen5
« on: October 08, 2015, 01:23:00 am »
My Gen5 stick arrived today. It is working for me.

- make sure stick is recognized by system (lsusb) => if not: try another USB port
- no auto detection => I had to create ZWave device manually (maybe I did not wait long enough)
- I updated xml files in /etc/openzwave with recent ones of openzwave project => don't know if this was necessary
- reboot core after plugging in => router reload is not sufficient
- reboot core after adding zwave devices  => router reload is not sufficient / lmce loses device connection
- mesh network is more responsive
- so far no big differences to old Aeon Stick2

important: When changing to new stick you MUST remove devices from old network!

lmce is using 1.3.1025, right?
This Gen5-Stick is available in Germany now, so I just ordered the stick myself. I will test it and give feedback...

My observation of brightness detection with zwave sensor until now:

- brightness value is appearing correctly in web admin in "state" field -> so ok
- I created some events: if device's (brightness sensor) state field contains values lower than 150 (e.g.) AND motion is detected then turn on light
- basically light turns on, when movement is detected in the dark. But in more than 70% of all occurings light does not turn although movement is detected and it is dark.

ATM I try to find out, why it is not turning on. Unfortunately I did not have the time to look a little more into the logs to find out what is going on exactly.

I had the same issue some time ago. My HDD turned "offline" for some reason I don't know. After turning on "online" again, media files in orbiter came back....

Users / LinuxMCE NVR????
« on: August 14, 2015, 05:35:18 pm »
Would some be so kind and give me just a few hints how to use LinuxMCE NVR?
I already have an IP Camera working (based on Advanced_IP_camera DT).

Unfortunately I did not find a documentation, what to put in the configuration fields in web admin and how to handle my existing device with this NVR-device.

My LinuxMCE created this device automatically.

I would be interested in changing to the Gen5-stick, too, because the Z-Stick2 is hanging from time to time and there is no fix for this issue (plugging out and in again is no fix for me).
As you can read on the OZW-page Gen5 devices do not play well ATM because of Security CC.

Maybe it is worth testing it. I am considering it, but it is really time consuming to migrate all my devices to a new stick...

With Gen5 you get the ability to use door locks and you will get a more responsive mesh network.

Users / Re: [12.04] OpenZWave Aeon ZStick Issue

Im using ZStick, too.

You must disable polling! Device gets stuck from time to time. Especially when it has to deal with a lot of messages it will get stuck. Plugging out an plugging in helps (mostly).

Aeon support recommends a maximum of 1 per minute (!).

I have one of them. As a battery powered device it is not very reliable. Try using USB-power cable. then it is much more responsive.

I'm using two Fibaro motion sensors. They work as expected (except tamper detection which is not used by LMCE atm). With the latest lmce-updates brightness level can be used in the state field. I'm testing this right now.

Getting them to work was a bit time consuming. I had to wake them up several times manually to let my Aeon stick get all the needed device info over the mesh network.

In my OZW setup I disabled polling completely. There were too many messages flying around and RTT were very high.

Using 10.04 and ZWave is not a good decision. 12.04 and Zwave is much better.

My hints:

- wake up device (3 button presses) 2-3 times
- be patient, battery powered devices are not so responsive
- check Advanced Zwave page, if device has been fully configured
- check Advanced Zwave page, if device has "values".
- check ZWave.log if the device reports values (especially brightness and temperature) to the correspondend LMCE-devices
- check node instances, e.g. temperature ist instance 1 ("12/1"), brightness is instance 2 "12/2",  motion has no instance ("12").

Don' mind.  ;)

My postfix is running fine. I did not manage to let it fail again in resetting postfix directory. Now when I fill out the blanks on web admin "" etc. are created successfully.

If postfix service is not running web admin fails to send test email. Config files have been created. A simple postfix start (or restart) command after "Update" is pressed should help.

I think this was the main problem for me. My postfix was not running because of misconfiguration (I cannot recover exactly what was wrong) and so web admin failed to send test email.

I'm afraid I have no programming skills.  :(  I have no idea how to do this...

Short Answer: NO

Not to be a jerk, but these companies have no interesting in making their viewers available for linux. The best route (for me) was to just create a netflix / amazon scenario and control it like i do PS3 or other external media. Via the orbiter.

Hope this helps

In Kodi there is an amazon instant prime addon that is working fine. ATM I'm using my Kodi-based rpi2 with this addon. So it could work in LinuxMCE, too....

I reconfigured my conf files already so I cannot make a diff. I do not know exactly what was messed up anymore. It was a bunch of things that were wrong.

Let me recover some things:

- None of my settings from web admin ("email setup") could be found in /etc/postfix conf files. Nothing.

for example (I'm using googlemail):
- transport contained "[]:" instead of "[]:587"
- sasl_passwd did not contain a user name or password. "[]:587" was missing, too.
- in there was no correct "relayhost" (again "[]:" instead of "[]:587")
- several security related settings in were wrong (TLS, certificates etc.)

I think web admin is not talking to config files at all....

I'm not a developer, I'm just trying to give some hints to solve problems someone has ("quick fix"). Please do not tell me, that hints do not help. If my hints are not helpful I will stop sharing my experiences in this forum.

I've got it working, but I had to configure some conf-file manually (some google searching helped me). Configuring email only in webadmin does not work (for me).

The right place to start is /etc/postfix.

You should check (relayhost, tls-settings, certificates, network protocol) sasl_passwd and transport.

After configuring sasl_passw and transport you have to do a postmap (one for sasl_passwd and one for transport.

At last postfix restart (not reload) and things are working.

Now you can use general info plugin to send emails.

If it is not working check /var/log/mail.log.

Installation issues / 12.04: invoke-rc.d broken on MDs?
« on: April 26, 2015, 06:44:53 pm »
Hello there,

in 12.04 there are two different versions of invoke-rc.d  in /usr/sbin/

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root    70 Apr 19 13:47 /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 11308 Jul 26  2012 /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d.orig

But those files are only on the diskless MDs. On the core there is only one invoke-rc.d in /usr/sbin/.

The ones on the MD are not working. So the (e.g.) the script "" does not work properly. The two ones one the MDs do not even return an error code (!).

Can someone confirm this is a bug?

Feature requests & roadmap / Integration of streaming sites?
« on: April 26, 2015, 04:13:23 pm »
Hello there,

video streaming sites like watchever, netflix or amazon instant video are getting more important these days. I would really appreciate a better integration of those streaming sites into LinuxMCE without using the web browser.

At the moment I'm using those sites via appletv or via apps integrated into my Panasonic smart tv.

Personally I'm using the classical satellite tv less and less....
