Installation issues / mythtv - setup
« on: December 31, 2008, 03:49:03 pm »
Hi...

Another problem popped up during mythtv-setup: When I leave the basic-setup screen I get the following message

Code: [Select]
Card 8 (Type television) will start on channel 1, which does not exist.
Do you want to solve that problem?

Well - I'm from Austria so I translated it and  I hope that you know to what kind of message I relate to.

So far I have downloaded epg via a grabber, filled it via mythfilldatabase (and I can see the program in the setup) and I distributed numbers among the channels as well as MHZ. So... I wonder where the problem is...

All right... mythfilldatabase with an xml-file works now.

But when I enter the setup and leave it, mythtv asks me:
Card 8 (Type television) will start on channel 1, which does not exist.
Do you want to solve that problem?

But I think, that I don't have a 'card 8'. What does this mean?

When I start TV the screen is just black. Aften one minuite a LinuxMCE-screen appears, on which I'm told, that mythtv has some problems and he asks me, if I would like to reset the backend.

Well... I have no user called mythtv    :-[    when I installed LMCE I didn't realize, that I should have one.
But I could rename my actual user. That should do it too, right?

Yesterday I found out, that a file named mysql.txt exists in /etc/mythtv. There you can find the DBUserName, PW and Database... I'll try to rename that one...  [Edit: No, no effect]

Edit:
I created a user called mythtv. When I entered mythtvfilldatabase --manual he did not gave me the same error again. I will now try it with mythfilldatabase and .xml - files.
Hm. What should I select in the setup? No grabber I suppose?

Installation issues / Linux mce, xmltv_grab_de_prisma and mythfilldatabase
« on: December 27, 2008, 11:12:06 pm »
HI...

Big problem in little Austria:
I'm trying to configure the in Linux-MCE integrated Mythtv. Unfortunately (for me) Every country has its own xmltv_grab support, but not Germany nor Austria (sarkasm on: of course - I live here - it just had to be like this Wink )
So I got xmltv_grab_de_prisma and installed it. I even got the xml file, wich I could add to the mythtv database. AND I know how to add it:

Code:

mythfilldatabase --update --file <sourceid> test123.xml

I'm sure, that you've already realized, that I wrote 'Sourceid' - I don't know, what it could be. I already found out, that I could obtain it by:

Code: [Select]

$ mysql -u root mythconverg
mysql> select * from cardinput\G
cardinputid
cardid
sourceid=4
etc.

... but that returns: "Empty set (0.00 sec)"

Why? What could I do?

Edit: when executing mythfilldatabase I get tthe following errors

Code: [Select]
Database error was:
Access denied for user 'mythtv'@localhost' (using Password: YES)

QSqlQuery::exec:database not open
QSqlQuery::exec:database not open

Users / Monitor and RS 232
« on: December 22, 2008, 11:26:01 pm »
Hi!

I tried to connect my PC-Monitor to my laptop, where LMCE is installed. Well, that was the plan.
Unfortunately My monitor didn't show a picture, although the cable was connected. By reading through various topics, I realized, that I had to install another package (could anyone confirm this?). But analog to 'Life isn't easy' - it didn't work for me. So I tried to add a device, but I REALLY didn't understand, what there was written down.

Here you have a screenshot...

Could please *I beg you    ;) * someone tell me what to do...

Thank you...

Allright, I can tell you that... (fortunately I installed mce just a few days ago - so I know every (major) change and the data loss is quite near to zero)

- external hdd was added via usb followed by installation and restart. After that I removed it again (after that change nothing happened)
- when I traveled to vienna I were in hotel. There they had an internet access (for free, a very well equipped hotel). Because I have a static IP at home (I use a router), I manually changed "interfaces" and "resolv.conf" to dhcp. After that I got access to the net and mce found the mentioned fileserver.
After I confirmed the fileserver I reloaded mce. From now on mce had the descriped malfunction.

All right - I entered your command in the console during playback. Effect: The focus, previously on the console, changed to the playback-window. So far, so good, but: I couldn't get back to the menu by pressing F1 (altough the symbol for the help-menu appeared for one second), and I could'nt change the window by pressing alt+tab (although I saw the 'change window' dialogue on the screen).

Hi!

Thanks for your anwer...

But what do mean by 'remotely'? You think of logging from another pc? Or just by entering it into the console?

By the way: The question for installing a file-server, "device: Windows share" (an there is absolutely no windows, not even in the whole house) is popping up constantly.

Hi...

Just one question: When I play a video, I hear the sound, but I can't see anything.
When I change to desktop one, where the regular kde-desktop is, I can change to the 'orbiter-playback'-window - THEN I can see the video but I can't control it. Of course, when I change back to desktop five (mce-desktop), I can just hear the sound again.

What have I done previously? I plugged my pc from my network to anotherone (from a hotel). After the restart he asked me for a detected fileserver (I think, that it was after the restart).

Please help me  -  I'm going down right now   ;)

PS: I hope, that I don't have to reinstall it...

Edit: Similar problem with the screensaver - I have to change the focus of the windows to see the screensaver, but with F1 I cant reach the controls .

Problem solved.

The wizard in combination with the nVidia-driver writes a totally confused xorg.conf, in which some entries are in one row... f.e.:

Code: [Select]
Option         "ModeValidation" "NoDFPNativeResolutionCheck, NoEdidMaxPClkCheck, NoMaxPClkCheck, AllowInterlacedModes, AllowNon60HzDFPModes"  "

You have to seperate the entries and set them to "true" - so everithing will work as it should.

btw.: copy this xorg.conf or you must start all over again, when the wizard will be started again!

PS: Many thanks to "DaBossDaChef", linux-club.de!!    ;) :D

Hi...

I have one installation-question left:
I'm using a laptop for MCE. It has the nVidia 8600 GT. Via dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg I can adjust my system to use a "generic video card" type nv. This way I can start MCE, but just with the simpliest ui. So far so good. BUT my video-card could do more. I know that. I installed the driver for my card via envy (but without enabling multiverse - didn't find a way to enable it vie the mce - kubuntu system). Unfotunately, when I restart the A/V-Wizard during my startup, I get some kind of crazy outputs: the wizard is display 6 times on my screen! But now I can enable the best ui (as a special feature, I can see it - just like the wizard - 6 times on one screen   ;)   ). Any suggestions what I can do to adjust my card the right way?

Thank you for your help...

Hi...

I managed it - I installed LMCE due to all problems   ;D ;D

But now there is one question left: What is my password for the admin site?   ???

I suppose, that the username is my User in KUbuntu (I have tried it - as suggested - but it didn't work)? Or is it 'root' as displayed on the 'Connections tab' / 'MySQL Settings'? Well... i'm quite troubled right now, because I never entered a pw  ;)
