Can you recommend any websites to learn on how you create usb drivers for linux? (So i can use it with Linuxmce)

In the last couple of days I'v done the basics on Ruby I get how that works, I'm now using a USB sniffer in windows to see what the data is being sent and received whilst using the alarm, the output doesn't make sence yet. Then i need to figure out how to view the code in the windows drivers to get the Protocols.

I must be mad, why don't I just buy a compatible alarm. (Any recommendations)

Ok I have just received the windows dirvers for this alarm in the post today, would anyone beable to tell if there is anyway i can use these in Linuxmce instead if creating my own & having to learn Ruby?

Just so you know im very new to linux, im finding my way round though, but still dont know how to add dirvers to a device.

Now im stuck on this bit, the webpage (link above) tells me to:
"you must run the get_dvb_firmware script in v4l-dvb/linux/Documentation/dvb (from mercurial)
  get_dvb_firmware tda10045
  get_dvb_firmware tda10046

and copy the resulting files to /lib/firmware (need to use the chmod)"

I found on another webpage (link in my 1st post) this:

I will have a play with that and see what happens.

When you say "protocol specifications" do you mean what the alarm can do through a computer? i.e. change the alarm code, arm/disarm ect...

Users / Setting up a Pinnacle 310i Digital Freeview PCI card

Hi,

I have a pinnacle 310i digital freeview pci card, and I’m having a nightmare getting it to work.

I have read 99% of all forums and wiki pages relating to this product, but I’m new to Linux so not sure if I’m doing the right thing half the time.

I have installed Mercurial and installed/updated V4L.

I have a couple of questions:
1. Should I have set linuxmce up with MythTV or VDR (Mythtv said it’s for analogue and VDR said it’s for Digital, I have tried both)

2. When setting up Mythtv Backend adding a capture card, I have tried Analogue with V4L which tells me I have a pinnicle310i, when I scan for channels I only get BBC1,BBC2,ITV & CH4 terrestrial channels only. When I set it up as DVB it tells me the device is a Philips TBA00046, which according to some forums is the correct firmware. however when I scan for channels it shows there is noise at 100% and the signal goes up and down as if there were channels being detected but is just say's no signal.

how do I run as root??? then it goes on to say:

I have a "Wired/wireless Advanced Security System" that can be pluged into a computer usb port, i did have drivers for windows but have lost them. would anyone know if this is compatible with linuxmce?

Now i am looking for COMPATIBLE PRODUCTS that work with linuxmce, hence my posting.... Maybe i should have bored you all stupid by telling you i have spent many hours/days even looking in to just finding the right DVB card, and my understanding (which could be wrong) linuxmce does not yet support HDTV, but like everyone else in there postings state they want to be ready for when it can. i have spent many head banging nights trying to get my Pinnacle 310i and my Technotrend 1501-c card to work, i have read just about every posting, every wiki page, and have done intensive search relating to the cards i already have, now i know a lot about windows and not much about linux so i dont want to waste time or money buying a DVB-S card that i have to compile drivers for because i do not know how to do that very well if at all.

So back to my previous question rephrased:
Is there a company or someone with the technical knowledge that can tell me what would the best PCI/PCI-E DVB-S card that will receive HDTV/FREESAT in the UK.

Here is what i already know:
1. The pcHDTV 5500: From what i have read it does not support PAL.
2. DviCO FusionHDTV5 RT GOLD (PCI card) or FusionHDTV5 Express (PCIe card) : Is for cable not sat
3. WinTV-NOVA-S-Plus: Is for sat but not HD
4. WinTV-HD: Says its ATSC which is for the U.S. not U.K.

If anyone has any constructive advice it would be appreciated.

Hello,

I am trying to build my 1st LinuxMCE Core server, and i want to be able to receive Free Sat. Does anyone know the best card to buy that is simple to install and setup?

I have a Pinnacle 310i that i can not get to work which is only DVB-T i have also tried Technotrend 1501-C which i can not get to work in linuxmce (both work fine with windows, but i want to get shot of windows), so my plan is to scrap the Pinnacle DVB-T & Technotrend DVB-C and find a DVB-S card that will receive HDTV FREESAT in the UK.

So if anyone has managed to do this please could you tell me what card is the best for the job.
