Okay...  Here's is the output of a Diff between the the 720p file supplied by Totallymaxed and the file created by my b202.

I am in no way an expert with xorg.conf.  Can someone tell me what the config changes are?

Thanks...

Barney:

It allowed the resolution change but for some reason all I get is the top left of the screen stretched across my entire televsion.  I did get a lock up after I used TotallyMaxed xorg.conf file but I think it is due to the screen saver issue you detailed.  I need to run a diff on the xorg.conf file that was created and the one supplied by totallymaxed to see what other options were changed.  I'm hoping to get to that this evening.  I also need to get a remote configured.

I'll post what I find...

Been fighting with one of these guys on and off for a few weeks now.  Went through the wiki and everything went very smoothly until the video issue.  Unfortunaly. just changing the drive name in the xorg.conf won't net me anything but a smoother running 640x480 experience.  I was able to get to 720p using the the xorg.conf file Totalymaxed:

I have not had time to compare the files yet. I'm hoping to get to it tonight.

Lol.. guess I deserved that!  :D

As I am still a bit new to Linux MCE, I'm wondering how large the installations are and if it makes sense to worry about application priority in database queries.  That would be the big advantage to a proxy.  The nice side effect is that the application could direct the queries to either a localhost database or another database server.

I'll ask the question again, is this a community need or just something that only a few people are interested in?  I'm willing to try and do this but, I am not a great coder and this would be some work.

Thoughts?

UGH!  Dragons is a bit of an understatement!  This is sort of like a very dangerous mine field!

With the holidays over, I spent the last week using about a 1/2 hour a day to try and run the database calls back to their base applications and pick though the respective scripts.  To do this, I put tracked where the database queries were coming from.  The first thing I noticed was that each individual application was making its own queries.  This made sense as, fundamentally, LMCE is a collection of applications bolted together.

As I was blowing up a few installs trying to make the setting changes, I started to consider middleware.  If there was a small application to proxy, prioritize and redirect the querys as well as put schema into the database at creation/install that should solve the problem without requiring a hunt ans rewrite.

Thoughts?

Andrew:

Let me start by saying thanks for all that you have contributed to the commuity in working with the Asus Eee box.  I have been fighting with one of these on and off for about a week now and your post and wiki entrys have been very helpful.

To that end, I was wondering if you had had a chance to write the wiki page regarding configuring the Eee and if could you provide a some guidance as to how to change the xorg.conf file to support 1080i resolutions you described in a diffrent post.

Thanks...

Thom:

Thanks for the quick reply.  If that's the case would it be easier to backup the other databases and move them to the Linux MCE Core?

I wouldn't mind helping out with a patch if there is interest in it beyond my own.  Beyond picking through all the past work done, is there a place to find out what scripts, abstration libs, etc. would need to be altered?

Thanks...

Hi there:

I'm not sure where to post this so, I'll try posting the question here.  I have started working through my first installation and it seems that no matter how well I think I have have it planned it always seems like there is some new wrinkle that I think of.

In that vein, I have a MySQL server that handles my CMS (drupal), Gallery2 and team speak servers.  Is it possible to have Linux MCE use the MySQL Server that already exists on my network and shut down the MYSQL server that would run on the core?  My assertion is that this would free up some processor & RAM overhead on the core and help the network as a whole run a bit more effeciently.

This question was discussed about a year ago here:
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=1610.0

but there was really not published resolution.  Does anyone know if this is possible and what the process would be?

Thanks...

Installation issues / Tuner Card's not being detcted at install
« on: December 23, 2008, 03:03:18 pm »
Hello:

I have recently completed installing my Linux MCE Core.  I have put in 2 tuner cards but Sarah can't seem to find them and set them up.  One is a Happuage PVR-250 (Old card form a Sage TV build I did a couple years back) and a DViCO HDTV7 Dual Express.

Build looks like this:
Motherboard: ECS GeForce7050M-M
Proc: Sempron Processor LE-1250
Ram: Corsair TWINX 2GB PC-6400 DDR2 CL5
Additional NIC: D-Link DGE-530T (Love the fact that this guy will go full duplex)

My first thought was that the issue was issue was bad PCI Slots but the NIC is working in both standard PCIs.
Not sure if this matters or not but, I do not have any kind of antenna or cable attached to the cards.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. (Before anyone says it, I know I should have gone with a HDHomeRun but space is a premium and I didn't know it existed until after I made this purchase,)

Thanks...

Installation issues / Diffrent DVDs?
« on: November 20, 2008, 04:09:09 pm »
This is propably a silly question but I searched the fourms and wiki site and cant find the answer.

I was just about to download and install LCME from DVD when I noticed that there are 2 diffrent .iso files at 2 diffrent sizes.  Other then size of the file and name, what is the diffrence between LinuxMCE-DVD-DL-amd64-rc2.iso and LinuxMCE-DVD-amd64-rc2.iso?

And more over, which one should I use?

Thanks...

Hello-

I think I am just about ready to do my first Linux MCE deployment.  But, after going through the fourms I still have some questions on my hardware selection.

1. DViCO FusionHDTV7 - Looks like it shoud be pretty good but I'm hoping someone can confirm

2. I was looking at a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive for my core but as I look around the fourms it seems like there are still a great number of issues to be resolved.  Is it worth the extra money to add this drive now?

3. I see support for Z-wave items.  Lutron has another protocall called Radio RA.  Will Linux MCE support this?

Any thoughts or comments on these items would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

-Wil
