Users / Re: Transfer video through LinuxMCE Admin?

The only issue I ever noticed with this was to make sure you have no white spaces in the files title or the issue I found is that LMCE will see the file and will allow you to update it with fams but will not display the cover art and attrib. in the UI either in all or within your chosen media sub-type. By no white spaces I mean underscores in a more than one word title. IE Batman_begins, I also use things like "and" to replace "&" and do not use " ' " or weird characters as LMCE (sql) does not like these in the titles) at all.

Is this true?

i've got 10,000 tunes and several hundred videos in "reader friendly format" as in spaces and no underscores so they wrap properly within a file list or media player.
this could change the whole ball game

I bought a 15W solar panel at Wal-Mart. Does LMCE do solar? ;)

Don't kid yourself. A 15W solar panel will do little to offset the requirements of a dedicated core and a pc in every room so don't start patting yourself on the back just yet.

Good luck with the system though. sounds like a great project.

At the moment i have nothing in public.
will be dropping all my music in there later when this all works but to speed up update daemon, its not yet.

All video and music is in either mine, hers, or his private folder and neither shows any content on any orbiter

Select the user you want, either under options (UI1) or at the bottom of the videos list (UI2), type user's pin code and there ya go.

the users PIN code?

I'm on my second concerted effort this year to build a linuxmce system. The first almost ended in divorce

I've read and studied lots since and had a goodish system running but am now having issues with media getting lost

I'm, using an internal raid drive using pluto's structure with three users; me, the wife and the kid.
In each users/data/video we have separate video, me films, her yoga and the little ones peppa pig (hands up if you know what i mean)

the idea is that you can switch to my user in the lounge to get films, switch the the wife user to get exercise videos etc etc

easy yeah!?!

linuxmce was all working using all video in the public folder on the raid, but now I've re-arranged it it no longer works
it seems unable to re-add the moved video

i read about the fickleness of the updatemedia daemon yesterday and got annoyed and rebuilt the system losing a weeks worth of tweaking

now the media is in the right place, the system is fresh, i watched update media go through the correct video folders and add to db, but nothing is listed in "videos" on the UI!!!

PLEASE, any ideas before i blow it up go for more marriage counselling!!

this'll take an age to install could wait 15 minutes for each orbiter to render

I'm talking from personal experience here.

we went down the router of "surely a core can be run on an old server" with this exact server and gave up

In theory it could work if you have patience

Your original files should be there.  the new ones are thumbnails if i recall correctly.

You'd think so wouldn't you. Unfortunately not as you'll see here

Excuse the flame angle of this post but.....

After weeks of struggling i've given up on linuxmce until i can spare some more time on it and my wife is happy to be temporarily divorced from my life again!

My server is now back to how it was before, i.e  running windows server beautifully, satellite cards and nvidia card recognised and working, except the music folders

In my folders i have (had) jpegs called either cover.jpg or folder.jpg, in every one of my thousand album folders and these appear(ed) correctly in Slimserver

Now though, linxumce in its infinite wisdom has renamed all files except mp3s or cover.jpg to file_name.jpg.tnj

What gives!
Thats' hardly non-destructive if you ask me

Yes, i can rename them - oh joy, but WHY!

Installation issues / Re: The nvidia saga continues

Rebuilt the core again, set-up system and orbiter on core

Turned attention to enabling opengl on the main lounge media director.
This will be the focus of my decision to keep or ditch this system and go back to the wonderful windows GBPVR system i used before!!

Fresh network boot on director, installed envy. checked dependencies. they downloaded and updated
Ran envy from the command line and selected install, update xorg and reboot.

restart...."failed to start X".....bugger

Checked logs. there are complaints that there is a mismatch between the module versions of the nvidia drivers.

1. Do i need to run envy on the core (as well as the orbiter) this is where most of the orbiter's source files are copied from

2. Am i getting more issues because I'm using a dell optiplex with a nvidia 6200 but awith an on-board graphics card that I am unable to disable?

Installation issues / recovery partition - why so big?
« on: March 25, 2008, 02:00:38 pm »
On my 40gb drive, i have a 10gb recovery partition (/mnt/recovery) set up by the install DVD.
Is this really necessary and how could it help me?

how much "control" of this system do you get with this remote compared with the extortionately priced (in the UK!) fiire remote?

the password given above are correct, unless you are attaching to the media directors whereas the user name is root and the password is blank

I assume my issues at this point are with MythTV

Totally true!

You have to remember linuxmce is a wrapper around many discrete packages. If you have an issue with that package, asterix/vdr/mythtv/xine etc, you will likely get better help on a website dedicated to that product. (No offence intended to anyone here)
The mythtv wiki is an excellent example of how they should be run. There is so much info there you'll definitely find someone who has experienced, and most often solved, any issues you come across

I've been struggling for a few weeks now, but once i found the mythtv website i moved along very quickly.

To get your listings working in mythtv though, choose your listings package, then alt-tab and the terminal window might be asking for your input to select channels etc. If this is the first time you have been here you need to run "mythfilldatabase --manual" command create a xmltx file and download the channel names and icons
alt-tab back to the backend setup
It may again ask you to do a mythfilldatabase for you. If it does not do not worry, nor even when it asks you to perform one.
Basically whenever you exit the backed set-up, it will ask you if you want to run mythfilldatabase. That's the time to do it if you did not do it in the terminal window

To go through the menus, use the left arrow to select item and the right arrow to change the option, mousing does not work
I'm jealous you got your opengl working so quickly!!

I see your taking notes which is great.
Work through each package incrementally.
once it is set up and working well, save a backup at that point from the web using the web interface.
If you then screw up a package, you can save the backup sets elsewhere, reload the dvd and restore from a good point.

I've changed the folder ownership in the file manager but not on the command line yet.

so, is one method more powerful than the other
(Still learning the Linux fundamentals here but getting much better at every turn)

Thank you both for your help

the picture above is from the wiki and i guess is a capture from and early build. it's not the one is see on my build on 0710b4 DVD

thanks, that will be a simpler fix for me
I've also realised that i have not disabled the on-board card which may be why this is forcing the vesa drivers on me.
Will try these fixes this week once I've spent some time rebuilding my marriage which has suffered greatly over the last three weeks!
