Installation issues / codecs mixup
« on: March 23, 2008, 12:04:29 am »
Hi,

I clearly screwed up my installation, by installing the DVDCSS and/or W32Codecs.
Everything was working fine, except playback of encypted DVDs and playback of WMV files.
That's why I installed both modules using the linuxmce additional software option.

Once I did this (succesfully) I got into trouble with MythTV, as it now shows a scrambled screen (audio is OK)

Anybody any idea where I can control the behaviour of these new modules ?
Thanks,
Jawadde

Installation issues / Re: Can't start MythTV anymore :-(
« on: March 16, 2008, 09:01:46 pm »
Hi Rob,

This is on a Core/Hybrid system. The backend seems to be OK. Also the frontend works fine when started outside of LinuXMCE from KDE.

I did indeed upgrade to Beta 4, so I'm running 7.10 B4.

Below you can find an extract from the backend log file, however please keep in mind that this log is generated because I'm starting MythTV from KDE. When I try to start MythTV from the orbiter, the frontend doesn't even get started, so obviously doesn't connect to the backend either.

So, in my opinion, this problem has less to see with MythTV and it's configuration, but more with the setup of LinuxMCE.

thanks for your help.

Thanks Rob for this hint.

Here is the output form id Mythtv.  As you can see public is there.

linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ id mythtv
uid=115(mythtv) gid=124(mythtv) groups=124(mythtv),20(dialout),24(cdrom),29(audio),44(video),1002(public)

The weird thing is that I can start MythTV from the KDE desktop without any problems.
I just seems to me that LinuxMCE has "forgotten" that MythTV is my "device" for playing Life Television.

Any way I can validate this in the Admin site ?

Thanks

Installation issues / Can't start MythTV anymore :-(
« on: March 16, 2008, 02:16:04 am »
Hi,

I had a system that worked well. MythTV was working.

Now, when I try to start to watch TV from the orbitter, I'm getting the following message:

"I cannot play this media. Perhaps there is not a valid device in this entertainmnt area capabale of playing it."

My only option is to click the OK button and I will return back to the orbitters main screen :-)

I really have no clue why this is happening. Probably I have screwed somthing up, but I really wouldn't know what.

Any help or hint would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Installation issues / Network Card not found during Beta 4 upgrade
« on: March 09, 2008, 03:24:39 pm »
Hi,

I have a working system running Beta 3, which I installed from DVD.
Now I have downloaded the Beta 4 CDs as I don't want to do a fresh install from the DVDs.

Everything looks fine, until I click the "Install Linux MCE" icon on the desktop.
The message I'm getting during the installation process is:

"You'll need to add at least one network card on this computer before installing Linux MCE"

My only optionis to close the dialogbox, which aborts the installation.

Any ideas anybody, as there are 2 NICs in the system, and they are both operational under Beta 3  ???

Thanks

Users / Re: Choosing the right mobos for MD and core
« on: February 17, 2008, 03:49:29 pm »
Thanks DTS for sharing. My problem is that this is only FTA, and I want to also receive encrypted channels. Also a twin tuner would be a requirement. Anybody any experience with that kind of setup who can confirm what cards would be working with LMCE ?

Hello

I'm about to invest in a full LinuxMCE system with an core - MD setup and have made a list over my needs for this system:

MD:
*diskless setup in MD
*HDMI
*ATX
*GbLan

Core:
*Dual GbLan
*storage server
*DVB-s2 cards

I have found these two motherboards that fit my needs:

MD:MSI K9AG Neo2-Digital
Core:MSI K9N SLI Platinum

Is AMD still a no go in Beta 3? I have seen Venom986 in the wiki having some success http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ASUS_M2A-VM

Any comments? Planning to order this system this weekend.

I'm planning building a LinuxMCE system as well, but then in a Core/Hybrid configuration.
Any suggestions on the MB to use for that config ?

Also, What DVB-S2 cards do you plan to use in your config ?

Thanks,

Jawadde
