Installation issues / Re: network storage
« on: December 15, 2007, 05:04:07 pm »
Thanks for testing this.  I have not had a chance to build a system yet so I was not able to test.  I have several different networks today and did not want to redo everything just to get LinuxMCE up and running.  I have many devices (SONOS) today accessing the music stored on the NAS as well as many network cameras already configured on the outside network.

I will try your suggestions once I get the system loaded up.

Thanks again

Is it possible for the network storage to exist on the public/outside interface of LinuxMCE?  I can either modify or disable the internal firewall if necessary.  I have another firewall before I connect to my ISP.

My MD's will exist on the inside interface so the netboot and DHCP works.

Users / Hauppauge MediaMVP as a MD?
« on: October 15, 2007, 03:45:28 am »
I know that the mvp can work with MythTV.  What I haven't been able to find is whether LinuxMCE has the files necessary for this device to netboot and come up as a media director.  There are several posts over the last year or so but nothing confirming whether it works or not. I would like to use these low cost MD's for the spare bedrooms, garage, kitchen, etc.  I am not interested in high quality video or audio for these rooms.

Can anyone confirm whether support is built in for the mvp?  Anyone that has gotten it to work?

Feature requests & roadmap / Sonos integration?
« on: October 09, 2007, 08:03:21 am »
Has anyone looked at having LinuxMCE control/interface with the Sonos whole house system?  There are Perl scripts that have been developed.  I don't know Perl so I am not sure how to approach having this integrated.

It would be nice to have many of the announcements leverage this type of system.

Installation issues / Koolu Media Director??

Has anyone tried this?  Curious if the video card is supported in LinuxMCE.  The price is attractive.

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Single NIC installation
« on: October 09, 2007, 07:58:40 am »
Note:  I have not tried this yet.  I will be building a system in the next week or so and plan to test.  I agree that having LinuxMCE be the center of everything is probably the preference for many but is not something that works the best for me.

Is it not possible to have 2 separate home networks?  Leave your existing home network and then install LinuxMCE with 2 NIC's.  NIC #1, the outside/public side of LinuxMCE would be connected to your existing home network.  It would get an address via DHCP from your existing router or static.  NIC #2 would then be the NIC used for all the PXE boot and other LinuxMCE related functions that need LinuxMCE to provide DHCP services.  You would end up with a separate network for all the content distribution without compromising your current network.

This would end up being 2 routers running in series to your provider.

ISP ------  existing router -----home network----- LinuxMCE ------- LinuxMCE network
