Worked like a charm! And good job on the documentation too. I'm sure it will benifit many others as well. Please msg me your info so I can make payment. :)

Try
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Use_my_own_pictures_in_the_Screen_Saver#Setting_an_attribute_from_the_web_admin_screens

Let me know if anything needs clarification...

Regards
Darren

Thanks Darren. I will take a look at this. Hadn't seen it before.

Sadly, I haven't been able to get either method to work for me either. I initially tried the script but with no luck, just a blank screen and when removing the pl script and adding some of my own pics to the directory I ended up with pretty much the same result.

Happily it looks like there is some talent making progress on my request: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2713 so stay tuned.

did you check the MD5sums on the ISOs
I did. Admittedly not until the second go around but yes I did.

That is usually caused by not properly folowing the instructions and mixing incompatible versions of (K)Ubuntu and LMCE.
I did closely follow the instructions but it is entirely possible that I missed something. I started with a fresh install of kubuntu as to avoid any conflicts as per the documentation. The install bitched about something different on each attempt and just died. Leaving me to start over with a fresh install of kubuntu and begin again.

Just adding my experience to the discussion.

Where is the flickr.pl located?
/usr/pluto/bin/

And the flicker pictures folder is

/home/public/data/pictures/flickr/

Thanks for the script chris. Trying to get this to work now.

Also, if anyone is interested, I have posted a help wanted for someone who wants to build this so that a change in the directory that is used can be done via the control panel settings. See http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2713.msg13170 if you are interested in the bounty.

While I love the flicker slideshow, and all the interesting pics it shows, I would love to also be able to point the script to (local)folders of my choosing.

Option 1: If someone can add the ability to change the directory the script uses via the admin panel and not just hacking the pl script, I'll shoot you a $50 spot via PayPal. This way it could possibly be added to future versions of LMCE.

Option 2: On the other hand, if this is too tall an order for $50, I'll put up $10 for a modified script that I can update(fairly easily) by hand to change the directory. (I know squat about pearl syntax but would be comfortable changing a directory string)
UPDATE: Option 2 seems to already be available here:http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2662.msg12867

Anyone else interested in this functionality, PLEASE pitch in

I tried several times to install using the CD's but with no luck. :'( I kept running into errors of missing libraries as well as other issues. I finally got wise and tried the DVD approach which worked out well. Installed on the first try. So if you have the option, go for the DVD approach.
