Users / Re: How to get the image (jacket) for a dvd
« on: January 05, 2008, 02:55:57 pm »
Ive tried this method with lots of DVDs that are pretty common (Oceans 13, SpiderMan 3, The Godfather) except the problem is: After I click scan for cover art, I wait for a long time, and eventually at the top of the page it says "Items Scanned", and then underneath it is says "No scanned items".

whats up with that? am I supposed to fill out the filters as well? I only changed the first name that is in the table.

edit: After trying to fill out the first column of the filter with the title of the movies, i still have had no luck. same problem.

EDIT2: NVM, i resolved it, it seems that my LMCE box was not connected to the internet for some reason. Now its working fine

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Cursor Reset in UI

well it is useful in the scenarios that you illustrated, I just think its a bit of a hassle when switching between different menus to the main menu

perhaps a setting in the admin interface?

Feature requests & roadmap / Cursor Reset in UI
« on: January 04, 2008, 07:26:20 pm »
One problem that I noticed was that the cursor in LinuxMCE resets to the lower left corner as you navigate from screen to screen. Let me explain.

Say I am in the main menu for linuxmce and I tilt my remote towards the right a little bit and click on the floorplan menu. Now that I am in the floorplan menu, I decide that I want to go back to the main menu, so I tilt my remote far right so that I can click on the big X in the top right corner. Now, as soon as I click that X, the screen goes back to the main menu, and the cursor is in the bottom left corner. The problem here is that my remote is still tilted > 45 degrees to the right, and the cursor is at the bottom left..

Hence, I'd have to press the button in the middle of the remote that turns off the gyroscope temporarily, and then rotate my remote to a neutral position, and then let go of the button.

This leads to very clunky controls, and I think that in the next version, when returning to the main menu, the cursor should not be reset to the bottom left..

Does that make sense?

How do I force v-sync to be on? Is there any way for me to do this easily?

I can return it, normally theyre 150, but I picked it up for 100 bucks on newegg.

If I cant get it to work, i'll just pick up the FIIRE remote

Users / DVD image quality during fast motion
« on: September 17, 2007, 11:06:53 pm »
While playing a DVD, I noticed that the image gets horizontal lines during fast motion scenes. It looks as though the top half of the image was shifted over to the side a few pixels, and this lasts for a fraction of a second, and it  keeps popping up whenever a scene involves fast motion. Any idea what might be causing this?

Is it possible that the graphics card is too slow? Would it be better if I picked up a faster graphics card? Thanks for your feedback.

My hardware specs are as follows:
Asus M2NPV-VM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
Onboard graphics (Nvidia Geforce 6150)
2 GB DDR2 Corsair RAM

Also it may help to know that I am connecting my computer to a 47 inch LCD HDTV using HDMI/DVI connection.

has anyone created a template that allows the gyration remote to be used just like the FIIRE remote?

I was able to get my gyration remote for 50 dollars cheaper than the FIIRE remote, so it would be great if someone had found a way to get it to work the same way.. minus the follow me feature.

Users / Gyration Remote vs FIIRE Remote

I picked up one of these gyration remotes the other day for 100 dollars.. i got a really good deal:
http://www.gyration.com/en-US/ProductDetail.html?modelnum=GYR3101US&accshow=3

However, when I started using the remote with my LinuxMCE box, I realized that the functionality is VERY different from the FIIRE remote as I saw in the demo video. Some of the buttons such as the Pause buttons dont work. Also, in the demo theres a way to control the skip speed and such using gyration, and I was unable to do that with the gyration remote. When I looked at the FIIRE remote, the remote is EXACTLY the same. Some of hte buttons are labeled differently, which leads me to believe that FIIRE has loaded their own firmware into the remote to allow for the different functionality. I was wondering if anyone has gotten their gyration remote to work just like the FIIRE remote.

I hope that made sense.

Installation issues / Re: UI loads and crashes repeatedly
« on: September 15, 2007, 10:33:09 pm »
Well teedge I found the solution for my problem, I decided to have one last go before I gave up on the project, and I did a few things differently. First, I didnt install the DVD CSS codec initially. Second, I disabled the onboard nvidia lan, and i put in two intel lan controllers. I had a feeling that having only one lan port could be causing problems, because of the DHCP server in linuxmce.

Installed it, and everything works like a charm. After I got the menus working, I went into the web admin panel and changed the network settings so that I assigned the PC a static IP. Then after the internet started working, I used the following commands to install the DVDCSS:

sudo apt-get install -y libdvdread3
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

Since then everything has been working fine. I hope this helps anyone that has been having problems.

It gives me an option to hit okay whe n the "devices didnt load correctly" screen comes.. but literally 2-3 seconds later it goes back to the grey screen with part of the UI cut off. No time really to hit okay or anything like that.

unless theres a fix, i guess im going to abandon this project.. Ive spent too many hours trying to get this to work. Dont get me wrong i love what you guys are doing with this project, but either i'm not intelligent enough to get it to work, or its just not stable.. Keep at it, maybe 6 months down the road ill check to see if any newer versions will be easier/less buggy.

Installation issues / [SOLVED] UI loads and crashes repeatedly
« on: September 14, 2007, 06:50:45 pm »
I've installed linux MCE using the CDs multiple times.. atleast 15 times, on three different configurations of hardware.

One problem i keep running into is that that once ive gone through the setup wizard and everything, the menu system loads with a black background. However, when i mouse over any of the menus, like system or media or security, the menu doesnt pop up. A few minutes later the background becomes grey, and the menus shift so that part of it is cut off. Then a progress bar shows up on screen and says its waiting for mythtv/xine etc to start up. Then the progress bar goes to the end and the process repeats itself. Sometimes i get a black screen that says "some devices did not start up correctly. You can use it, but functionality is limited"..
This is on the Asus M2NPV-VM Motherboard.

any ideas???
im pulling my hair out with all of these problems

Ive got a full 5.1 setup connected to my amplifier. my amplifier is a yamaha RX-v3200. I have connected my computer using optical out to the yamaha receiver. When audio plays on the media center, i look on the reciever and it says that it is only receiving information for the LEFT and RIGHT channels. Whenever I insert a DVD in an external standalone DVD player and play a DVD, It shows that it is receiving information for all of the 6 channels. This is NOT the DVD player in my computer, this is a standalone DVD player.

does this shed more light on my situation?

Thanks for the link Zaerc.. I was just wondering what would I need to change in my xorg.conf?

The resolution??

Section "Screen"

       Monitor      "Monitor0"
       DefaultDepth 24
       SubSection "Display"
               Viewport   0 0
               Depth      24
               Virtual    1600 1200
               Modes      "1280x720"
       EndSubSection
EndSection

is that what i have to do?
