Users / Re: Comand ir
« on: June 03, 2008, 06:30:41 pm »
here how I use it,
mythtv-setup -> input connections -> external channel change script : I provide the channelchanger path along with the remote spec found in lirc.config and the ir port of the command IR for the given STB (1-4) it looks like :
/usr/local/bin/chchange sa-4250 1
then when the given tuner is used you will have mythtv automatically change the channels.
I thing I should mention is that all my tv watching is done through different MDs, the Core is headless and the only things in need of IR control are the 4 STBs that are only used through mythtv...

I use it from within mythtv to change the channel a given cable box.

I am using it and love it.

I control 4 cable boxes with it, very easy to setup.
They set up http://lircconfig.commandir.com/ in order to create a lirc.config and create the channel changing script for you.

It would have to be supported by mythtv first.
Given the fact that this will probably be implemented in the mythtv trunk (0.22) and the 0.21-fixes branch.
I would think that this will be most likely not available in linuxmce until it uses mythtv 0.21...

As mentioned by the previous poster this is a DRM issue.
Also the watch it now feature of netflix is tied to MSIE.
It will not even run on a windows machine using Firefox...

Thanks danielk,

Do you happen to know if the final 0710 will be a custom 0.21 or is it going to stay off the current custom 0.20.x ?
The reason I am asking is that I currently run mythtv 0.21 and love the improvements to the firewire recorder.

Cable companies in the US are required by the FCC to provide a working firewire port on their HD cable boxes.
I run mythtv 0.20.2 on my network, I connected a Scientific Atlanta 4250HD to my server through firewire.
I registered the cable box in mythtv-setup, after that I was able to watch the premium channels in HD (and channel changing happens through the firewire port, no IR required).

There is a BIG disclaimer though:
Not all cable providers provide premium channels in clear on the Firewire port;
Tech support (Lvl1 and Lvl2) is usually totally clueless about firewire and about what it takes to get an output out of the cable box.
I am one of the lucky ones who can access their whole cable lineup through firewire; you may want to give it a shot as you may be lucky too.

I currently run Mythtv 0.20.2 for my whole house and would not like going back to an older version.
I've read that Mythtv shipping with LMCE was an older version making LiveTV somewhat unstable...

Thanks a lot.

Installation issues / Re: Are 3ware 95000 series supported
« on: September 10, 2007, 08:24:16 pm »
Installing with the CD did the trick, the basic Kubuntu even discovers the controller during the install process.
Wished that the DVD could do the same.

Thanks a lot.

Installation issues / Are 3ware 95000 series supported
« on: August 14, 2007, 03:48:59 pm »
I currently run Feisty Fawn, I have a 3ware 95000S12 raid card in this machine.
It is supported out of the box by the Kernel (I didn't have to recompile it).
I tried to install linuxmce 0704 (DVD) but it didn't recognize the card.
Is there anything I can do ?
Thanks a lot.
