I agree.  My movies have the movie title in parent directory name, not the file itself.  It should be optional to index the movies by directory name, not file name.

Can we get some information on possible updates, etc?  How is the bug stomping coming?  In inquiring minds want to know!

windows MCE is a breeze (read: impossible to mess up) to setup and use, while the linux alternatives arent at all in comparison.  The main reason?  The number of supported devices.  In linux, especially pertaining to mythtv, the choices are thousands of combinations, which is a definite double edged sword.

So the question of: Is my hardware supported?

Well, the generic answer is, probably.  But that does nothing to help you figure out how to use it.

Nvidia has superior linux drivers for graphics.

Hauppauge is generally the defacto/well supported capture card.

Remotes?  Thats a definite crap shoot.  If (and im not sure yet) linuxmce uses lirc (the part that talks to your remote) the homepage is here, and it lists on the left all the supported crap:  Supported and actually making it work are 2 different things however.  Its not generally easy.

Sound cards?  Creative has always had notoriously bad driver support for linux.  However it can be made to work.  Alsa is the part which makes your sound go, and supported sound card list is here:

There is some generic information.  I swear to God one day I will be able to give specific linuxmce answers!

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: harmony remote and linux MCE

Setting up the remote in mythtv was/is one of the most difficult things to do imo.  It would certainly be nice if somehow, someway, this was made easier.

I'm sorry I dont have any useful suggestions on how to make this happen though.

Couldnt find one, but I do think one is in order.

Probably a feature that you wont need your arm twisted to get :)

Users / Re: Yeah this is totally easy....wait, what?
« on: March 26, 2007, 12:02:13 am »
Agreed.  Even trying to download the installer has been troublesome.  I think I'm going to wait for 1.1.

I am pretty much useless from a developer standpoint, I may be helpful in the downloading part.  What kind of trouble are you having with the download?

I have literally hundreds of backed up dvds, each in their own subdir so it would be ideal if it would recognize the container as it is instead of renaming all the files.

I believe all the ones we are hosting/seeding now are the packages needed for the linuxmce installer.  You will need to dl and install ubuntu separately, then grab the initial linuxmce installer as described in the docs.

I havent personally tested this iso, but im gonna right now.

Ive put up 2 temporary mirrors on thise page:

Dont worry, its safe for work :)

These mirrors are 100% temporary to help get ppl the files to seed.  Please please seed the files when you have completed the download!

Installation issues / Re: 64 bit version of the installer?
« on: March 23, 2007, 07:25:49 pm »
I have played with 64 bit Fedora and mythtv.  In my experience, the 64 bit stuff has far more bugs, and I dont know why.  Maybe because less people are using/developing it?  *shrug*  But since the mythtv install is a headache as it is, I wouldnt recommend people use the 64 bit version either, simply because it doesnt need to get any more difficult than it already is.

I think the 580 meg version may be broken.  Nero says it has a block size problem.  I am going to discontinue seeding that, and download matts.

Matt, did you actually install your version to verify it?  Im going to try and install the version I have, the 580 meg one right now to see if it works or not.

My download was only 580 megs too.  It seemed to open with winrar without an error, but I havent actually tried it yet.

My version seems to be seeding ok from TPB torrent.  Everyone who has downloaded it should pitch in and help seed ;)

I have it on my hosting site.  I will give the url out for a fast download to people who promise to seed the torrent.  If I make it public it will burn through my allocated bandwidth in .000001 seconds :(

Ive been poking around, and this is a shot in the dark for sure as I havent yet installed it.  In other words, dont bet the farm on this.  If you look here: there is a 2.6.20 kernel that this distro may be using.  Again, I dont know since I cant find the friggen iso to install.
