Installation issues / Re: Installing LinuxMCE in openSuse
« on: April 21, 2008, 03:37:52 pm »
Well im REALLY surprised no one else has experienced this!!!!

Ive solved it!

Seems that LinuxMCE or the bad culprit is actually ubuntu im sure gets entirely confused.

I have a 6100 onboard and i was inserting the cards into the PCI-E slot.

What was happening was the bl@!#dy thing was getting confused because i had "two" graphics cards.
Probably was loading wrong driver or sumthing like that!

As soon as i disabled onboard video, it worked 100%.

Strange, an issue like this should be well documented. After all it's easy enough, and who cares bout the onboard graphics if you have a dedicated card!!!!

But thanks for reply!

Im no slowly chugging along, next i need to get my haupage pvr 150 working. Sure thats simple.
Did run into another issue though, seems my sound card wasn't supported.

But thats another story!

Very looong and painful procedure this... Hope it's all worth it in end.
It's definitely not as easy as the video makes it out to be.

What "mannual" intervention is required?
I have not been able to get any graphics card except onboard 6100 working...

Tried 8600gt,7600gt, and a 6200.

Just an update for those interested:

The motherboard in question has an onboard 6000 series nvidia card.

I took out the 8600gt, used that to install and all was successful.
So the problem is graphics drivers....

However this has been a VERY expensive test, as i was told there are issues with 8000 series cards.
So, after all the headache i bought a 7600gt asus.
Well folks, same issues.
So i bought a 6200.
Same issues....

So the conclusion...
I CANNOT use linuxmce with any PCI-E card i have tested so far.
Only onboard.

So although Vista is really crappy, it does infact work..... :p

Ok so i downloaded the latest amd64 beta try install black screen soon after i hit install.
I follow blind method of installing, i here the system boot after. Couple of beeps, and its frozen.
I try i386 version, no black screens but after install on first boot just freezes.

I try overnight build, same thing.

Ive tried this product from the very beginning and honestly say the guy who made the video must have been a full on Linux developer.

There is no way you can do all that when you have that many issues just getn it installed.

Guess it's back to vista media center for this machine.
As crap as vista is , it has one brownie point towards it.....
IT WORKS!

Machine was...
AM2 3500 64bit
8600 Nvidia 256mb
Hauppage 150
2Gb Ram
160Gb HDD
2x LG DVD Writers

Installation issues / Re: blank screen when starting to install 64bit

I had the same issue here.
Pop in the dvd boots off DVD enters splash screen, i select install.
Black screen, TV No Signal. Just dead all round.

Followed orionsune's advise to do blind install, and i think it has worked as it eventually spat out the dvd and rebooted.

Excited to try it out i was presented with splash screen again booting off HDD to which once again i was presented with no signal on DVI and S-Video. The system does however now make funny beeping sound. Soon after i tried pushing 5 to select S-Video as output however nothing works. Eventually it seems the system dies. Num lock fails to go on off , CTRL-ALT-DEL doesnt reboot system, just dead.

Using beta 3 64 bit.

What now?
