So LinuxMCE looks promising from the writeups, and I really would like to try it out... but so far I haven't gotten far enough to make much of anything go!
I've got an Asus A8N-LA mainboard
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00647121&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=1843642 with an Athlon64 3800+ (IIRC) and 1.5GB of RAM. The disks are a pair of 500GB SATA drives in a software RAID-1 mirror, separate partitions for /boot, swap, and /.
After successfully completing the installation as a core-only system, I started the machine up and clicked "Open admin webpage", then got distracted by other things. By the time I came back, the disk was thrashing and response time to anything - even just a keypress - is on the order of five seconds.
I'd originally had only 1GB in the machine and happened to be logged in as root on a console, and thus gotten to watch as the kernel started killing tasks due to running out of memory.
Is it really that 0710 requires more than 1.5GB of RAM to even run, or have I come across a bug? How should I go about diagnosing this...?
