Jon, I've been held back a little from completing the merge due to autobuild problems. But I've set up a new builder at which I'm taking through the paces right now. Then I'll point it at the charonmerge branch and fix up any autobuild problems before completing the merge. ETA for merge 2-3 weeks.

Hi, I just noticed your post. I've forwarded the complaint to the fulfillment folks. The discs didn't get back from the presser until May 30th or so, and are shipped in batches once a week. guzzman, use ctrl-tab to switch away from the mythtv-setup UI to the console... then follow the prompts.

There are listings options for MythTV that are easier to setup, but AFAIK in the US and Canada only.

I haven't looked at the guts yet, but there are some devices in the database defined off of LIRC files. Look at device template 350 for instance. It's defined as a lirc.conf.hauppauge legacy device. Perhaps there is already some conversion code in the code base we just need to adapt...

dpkg-buildpackage will only work with applications that have a debian directory.

To build the App_Server binary first compile everything using "./configure ; make" using the charon-merge branch sources, this will create all the dependencies and it will also create a processed Makefile in the App_Server's directory which you can use to recompile after changes to the sources.

Gazzman, there are two options:

 1/ Use the freeview EPG instead and avoid this XMLTV setup step, simply select "Transmitted guide only (EIT)" as your "Listings grabber" when you create the Video source, then connect up the video source and scan for channels.
 2/ Run mythtv-setup from the command line so you can see the console output and set up the radio times grabber.

Usually people do option 1 to get things working, and only configure Radio Times if they are unhappy with the quality of the transmitted guide data.

Note: it is also possible to setup XMLTV before running mythtv-setup.

MythTV will also let you edit recordings. You need to play the recording from within MythTV then hit the "E" key to enter the editing mode. When done editing you can use mythtranscode to make the edits permanent and seen by the Xine player.

In LinuxMCE 804, I plan to make MythTV the default player for MythTV recordings so the export step will not be needed. But I need to make sure that the MythTV_Player wrapper is aware of how to do absolute jumps so that the Orbiter jog functionality works firsy and also run some stress tests to make sure the MythTV player is as stable under LinuxMCE as Xine.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but m1ch43l on IRC (chat button) has a utf8 conversion mostly complete. AFAIK Xine is not playing utf8 encoded files yet but the other apps are all working.

PS Is Chinese readable Left-to-Right? If not, that may be the next issue after utf8 & fonts.

One thing that made it hard to confirm the real problem was that the people experiencing problems were also have difficulty with programming. This was due to two issues which developers may have experienced, but if so probably quickly overcame them because of how they think about problems. The first is that to program the codes you must have fresh batteries in the remote control. If you don't, it may still pick up some IR codes but the learned codes will have errors. The other problem is with alignment of the remote with respect to the detector. If you hold the remote too far from the detector you will get the same problem weak batteries give you, and if you hold it too close you will also get errors due to overblasting. A good distance is 30 to 60 cm from the USB-UIRT, and some people find that holding the remote slightly above or below the front line of the USB-UIRT helps.

Once the codes are learned the USB-UIRT, and other IR detectors, are not as finicky. The way IR remotes and LinuxMCE increase reliability is by resending the codes 3 or 4 times so that at least one of them gets through. Which is why a remote with weak batteries still work normally. But if only one out of 3 or 4 codes is good during learning, it is difficult to determine which is the correct one.

DDamron, I doubt 120V at 50Hz will work with the insteon stuff.

If you have an isolation transformer that may clean up the inverter output enough for insteon.

The number of tuners you need depends on your TV watching habits. If you always watch recordings rather than live tv, two tuners are generally sufficient.

This kind of error usually happens with a faulty DVD drive.

But it can also happen if the burn didn't work correctly or due to a faulty SATA/PATA cable between the motherboard and the drive.
