Available on ebay from China (buyers beware) for 199USD (or 141EUR) + 55USD shipping

If the people that are selling these weren't power sellers I would totally agree with you, but the auctions I see are from sellers with very good ratings.  The only problem with buying from china on ebay is that sometimes customs takes a little long (sometimes a week or 2) before it actually gets to you.  I have personally purchased dozens of items from sellers in china without any issues.  I would not of even brought it up if it looked fishy.

SmartDevices a chinese company is going to be releasing a 7" internet tablet for about $132 USD (maybe a little more after importing)

It already has unbuntu on it so it should be fairly easy to put orbiter on it.  Hopefully this turns out good.

I am in strong favor of enacting this drafted charter now and if any revisions come to mind the community can vote on it.  The sooner the better in my mind.

The only thing I would like to add is that going off topic is not necessarily bad because it sparks creativity.  Punishing a thread for going off topic makes absolutely no sense to me.  When there are good discussions in one thread sometimes that keeps conversations going quicker.  I can understand starting a new thread if the off topic discussion becomes too overwhelming for the original discussion but by no means is a need to punish a member, the thread, or the community.

Sorry if I was being rude.  I really don't like being mean.  I was a little offended about being corrected when there was no correcting needed.  I'll just leave this thread alone now and reference back to my previous suggestion.

Most NVIDIA cards can also output the composite over the blue which is weird to me because in the a/v world you mostly do that over the green.  I have used it several times this way in windows on different desktop cards and laptops.  If you don't want to buy an S-video cable you can just try it.  S-Video is a better signal though because it is component but It is hard to see the difference between the two unless you have an image or video on screen with many lines close together going in the same direction.

I am not a fan of controlling devices with IR transmitters and found this document on controlling DirecTV receivers through their USB (really just a masked serial) port.  Does anyone know if the channel banner would be or is normally hidden when controlling these devices over serial?

My boss has an automated serial system hooked up to his DirectTV box through the usb.  The channel banner is not hidden.  The same thing happened when I worked in some hotels with Crestron systems talking to the hotels' box.

Although on my cable box at home if I push the "select" button after changing the channel the banner goes away instantly.  Maybe you can have it send that command over ir after each channel change to see if it makes it go away.

I have the processor, Harddrives and RAM from my wife's old computer.

The Gyration GYR3101US Universal Infrared / RF Remote Control will require some set up to get it to function.  This will not function like fiire remote which it plug and play.

The motherboard and tuner should function perfectly

DVD "upscaling" Player
-About a 100-150$ budget... I can put this one off obviously because my current DVD player works.
What am I after here?  I also want this to communicate to LinuxMCE.

I would just use LinuxMCE as your DVD player, it upscales well and it will be more tightly integrated.

Remote or Orbiter
I'd LIKE to have my iTouch act as an orbiter.  I can't find anywhere in the wiki that shows how to set up the web orbiter.  I'm assuming this is just a webpage that I haven't found the link to yet.

Currently there has been no development to get the ipod touch or iphone to work as an orbiter.

Although those tablets on tabletkiosk look quite nice, I think the price is high for an orbiter.  I was under the impression the Tee PC would be somewhere around the $400 range.  The battery life should also be substantially better on the Tee PC then those x86 tablets.  This was another reason for me considering it.  Being able to use the tablet for more then a couple hours without having to put it in sleep.

I just don't know if it will be a very functional orbiter.  Do you think it will lag or have any other serious issues?  I'm planning on trying one out when they are released.  I just wanted to know if anyone thought there would be any trouble.  Thanks for everyones help!

Compatible Products & Services / digital cable

would something like this make is so i could record high def digital cable right to my linuxmce box?  would it even work in linuxmce?  if it doesn't do you think it can be implemented.  It also looks like the card basically supports multiple recording of many streams just off the one card if it is done right.  please let me know what you think because I am very interested in this
