Title: MCE and PLC
Post by: mcc on April 19, 2010, 11:57:12 am
Hello,

has anybody tried to "peer" LinuxMCE with Fatek PLC in order to control hause? Is it acceptable solution or shall not be considered as a fully functional?

Best regards,
MCC

Write a driver.

I'm considering such option. I found also that MODBUS is the protocol which can be used in order to communicate with PLC. I have found that there is a driver for linux for modbus. I'm now considering few hause automation solutions and wanted to find something usefull, scalable and good value for money. KNX is quite expensive, so I was looking for any some alternative solution, which is able to work with MCE and scalable and flexible in terms of programming so called scenes.

PLC-Bus?

Hmm this is misunderstanding I think. You were thinking about power line carrier and i used PLC abbreviation for programmable logic controller.

Ok yes :)
Sorry

I lost almost all my programming skills, so I'll be looking for some support in programming interface between MCE and PLC. Hope will be successful project, as the MCE is really nice tool and PLC in cooperation with modbus is really good value for money solution for house automation. Combining it all together would be perfect solution.

Best regards,
MCC

Thanks for your interest in contribution.

It must be said, that any drivers that are accepted into the database, should be for hardware that can be easily acquired.

Have a look at OPC (OLE for Process Control), if you are going down this route of using a PLC then perhaps OPC would be a great way to making it flexable for all types of PLC's (that have an ethernet Port/can be networked). I think this would be a great step towards combining MCE with PLC's and I for one would be extremely interested in anything this topic throws up.

I haven't decided yes whether MCE to PLC (Fatek) interface will be IP or directly Modbus (over serial/usb link). I have to spend some time on studying available hardware and give you some update :)

I see, well from my experience while modbus is a well supported protocol using OPC and IP will be more flexable and allow you to potentially use and brand of PLC....have you some reasoning behind choosing Fatek? I use alot of PLC's and this would not be the most common, just a thought!!

Fatek - just because i have good price for it and i know how to programming them :)

Guys,

will you be providing devices for others?

This is my reasoning behind the suggestion to look at OPC. it is an open connectivity protocol and most PLC's are OPC compliant (i am unaware of any that are not).

Also most PLCs are similiar to program (ladder logic is pretty common) the Fatek are prob just some generic brand of one of the much larger companies like Siemens!

Hello,

I'm planning to connect a PLC with MODBUS TCP to LinuxMCE.

Any update you can share on your project ?

Thanks.

Hi!

I am very interested in the progress for communication between PLC-systems and MCE too.

Were there a driver written?
I think that opc seems like the best protocol for this

Hi,

The connection between plc FATEK and LinuxMCE is exactly I´m trying to do. Did you consider use of a serial connection? Did you use a interface like a relay in the outputs of the PLC?

Although I believe that a c/c++ implementation is ultimately the best way to go...  There are open source ruby implementations of modbus ascii/rtu and tcp available online (check wikipedia for modbus) that could likely be integrated as a GSD device template.

Hi guys,
any news about controlling a PLC based home automation with linuxmce?

No one has added any DTs that would permit that currently, but it is doable.

Hi,

I'm using Dianemo with PLC and whole automation network from Cybrotech...
