Title: Control devices via IR Transceiver (UIRT) - multiroom?
Post by: valent on February 23, 2010, 11:15:32 pm
I have setup new LinuxMCE hybrid system and would like to make it control my other devices in living room. Could you please suggest what IR Transceiver (UIRT) to buy or even diy making is not out of the question.

I looked all over the wiki and is i quite lacking in info for IR Transceivers :(

Any European shops to buy IR Transceiver (UIRT) ?

How to control devices via IR in other rooms in the flat?

USB-UIRT is the best option out there.
As long as you have a media director in each room that you want to control devices in, you just attach a USB-UIRT to each one.

valent,

if you want to control stuff in a different room, USB_UIRT is of no use.

Either use GC-100 from GlobalCache, or the ethernet version from IRTrans. GC-100 works out of the box. How good IRTrans works, I don't know.

I can see that GC-100 is priced around 150$, a bit expensive. Are there any DIY or cheaper solutions?

valent,

if there were any cheaper solutions, that would work as well as the GC-100, do you think, I would have purposefully NOT told you about them?

Valent,

I use a cheap ir over cat5 extender to allow the 3.5mm output from my usbuirt (on the core in a closet) to transmit in my living room (or in fact any room with a network point).

Hope this helps,

No, why do you think that?
