Title: myth mystery
Post by: maybeoneday on February 15, 2010, 08:21:42 pm
Hi all,
clean install, updated, upgraded, and gone to myth setup in computing.
Location is UK and timezone info in web admin is ok.
No problem setting up dvb-t usb dual tuner & all works fine.
Trying to setup my hauppauge 150 to capture from sky+ box via s-video,...

I've followed the wiki instructions  http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/MythTV%2C_xmltv_and_channels and http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Uk_xmltv

"General" settings are all default except broadcast standard is europe -west, PAL-I, pal-teletext and timezone set to auto.
I've setup a video source for my pvr150 (setup in webadmin) as RadioTimes , and myth-setup  tries to load xmltv configuration, fails, and defaults back to schedules direct

tv_grab_uk_rt is present in /usr/bin and produces a config file in .xmltv ....
trying to copy this to home/house(user)/.mythtv errors out, as .mythtv doesn't exist,...
creating the directory and copying the file over  to  /home/house/.mythtv/RadioTimes.xmltv, then running mythfilldatabase --manual errors out as " failing to connect to schedules direct"...
...returning to computing/myth setup still gives no option of any other grabber than schedules direct.
SOoooo, can anyone spot the error I'm obviously making ?

any help would be greatly appreciated,
thanks in advance,
Ian

Does it not work with EIT? Much easier to get working, I would try that first.

Hi purps,
thanks for response....yes there is no problem with the dvb -t side of things, channels scan and display correctly, and the epg is ok.
The problem is that I'm trying to get an s-video output (from a sky sattelite box with an external channel changer) into Myth via the pvr150, so xmltv is a must,as there is no eit data because the input is analogue.

...and the real problem is that myth-setup, from computing menu, tries to load xml configuration, fails and defaults to schedules direct, which doesn't cover the UK.

I've tried fresh installs, of lmce, and the problem is constant, which leads me to think that I'm missing something very obvious, especially as no-one else seems to have the same problem,
any pointers would be appreciated,
regards,
Ian

I don't have a clue I'm afraid. If it were me, I would install a bog-standard ubuntu/kubuntu, update it, install myth, and see if you have the same problem, and then that would narrow it down a bit at least.

UPDATE

I've just finished a new install ,updated/ upgraded , applied kmserver fix
(I've not installed the dvb tuner, or run xmltv grabber from the desktop.)the pvr150 is installed according to myth setup as ivtv mpeg2
myth setup is still refusing to load  any xmltv configuration and still defaults to schedules direct

can someone please shed some light on this before  my brain explodes !
regards,
Ian

Hi all , and apologies BUT

after yet another install, myth setup, from computing,  is still not offering any xmltv grabbers,

I know I'm thick guys , but even so, it shouldn' be this hard, should it ?

Has anyone run into this  before?

regards,
Ian

Hi all (again)
after numerous reinstalls, I'm still having the same problem, so, as no-one else seems to have encountered this I can only conclude that either:
1)............it's peculiar to my hardware....unlikely as it's all common stuff

OR
(and much more likely)
                2)     .............it's down to RBFS,.......Repetitive Brain Fart Syndrome        ;D ;D ;D

Soooooo......I've given up on xmltv,.......but not on myth, as I've (hopefully ) found a better alternative,

Hey,
I'm having exactly the same problem - similar situation, fresh install etc....

No xmltv grabbers listed in mythtv-setup although tv_grab_uk_rt is installed and can be run independently from the commandline.

Infuriating.

We use EIT data for DVB-T, DVB-S and Sky EPG's. This always means that the EPG data is as good as it would be on a STB and is close to 'real time' if changes are pushed out over the air. It also mean that we can display Sky channels in the EPG alongside Freeview & Freesat and the user can treat his/her Sky box either as a tuner or as an external device controlled by Dianemo/Cascade.

This is part of Dianemo & Cascade but has currently not been released into the public svn. We may release it into the public svn later this year after a re-write to separate out some commercial features.

All the best

Andrew
