Title: Linux media center, which?
Post by: Gerd on December 04, 2009, 05:55:36 pm
I wish to build an media center with linux as an OS on an SSD drive and 2 twin DVB tuner cards to record 4 programs at the same time and use a HDTV.  I also want to use a Bluetooth keyboard & mouse and connect via D-Link to my other PC.  Can I use dual or quart core?  I have no Linux experience (Windows user, sorry) and I need help.  Thank you

LinuxMCE will provide what you are looking for but that is just one small part of what it can offer. LinuxMCE is a whole house home automation and control system. So as already mentioned in the post above something like MythBuntu would probably be a better choice for your needs as it will be simpler and more straightforward to setup and configure as it focuses on 'Media Center' like functionality only.

You can download the latest MythBuntu ISO from here; http://mythbuntu.org/download/?file=mythbuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso (http://mythbuntu.org/download/?file=mythbuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso). This iso is a Live Disc that will allow you to 'test' boot the CD before installing it on your hard drive.

All the best

Andrew

Well thank you all, Mythbuntu looks good and as a live cd I can test run the OS (distro 0 beforehand.  If keyboard/mouse stay paired with the mc, I'll be very happy.  Thank you again. :-*
