Title: Removing id3 tags in alpha 810.

I'm trying to remove id3 tags from the video folders where 0 byte cifsxxxx files are being created.

Removing the id3 tag stops the creation of the files.

Since I had used media resync the id3 tag existed both on disk and in database.

So into Files & Media|Edit Media file and remove the attributes & artwork.

This usually takes three steps. 

   First check Select/unselect all.  Then press Delete Selected.
   When this is updated Delete the artwork - mine don't usually have a URL attached.
   Then quickly into /mnt/device/XX/public/data/videos/folder_name and delete id3 tag.  I usually have this setup beforehand.

Recheck in Files & Media|Edit Media file because if you're not fast enough everything gets recreated.

Delete file button in Files & Media|Edit Media file doesn't delete id3 from the HDD.  Things just get recreated.

Sometimes it's a real pain to get the artwork deleted.

I've tried to delete the cifsxxxx files from both

/mnt/device/XX/public/data/videos/folder_name and /home/public/data/videos/'Windows Share-Volume_x [XX]'

but new ones are created.  I have to hook up to my Fedora box to delete them.

What exactly is the point of all this?
You can turn off UpdateMedia by running '/usr/pluto/bin/UpdateMediaDaemonControl.sh -disable' which should help stop things being recreated right away.

The point of this is that myself, and probably many others, did not know about...

/usr/pluto/bin/UpdateMediaDaemonControl.sh -disable

...but now we do.

Do you happen to know why 0 byte cifsxxxx files are being created on my NAS against id3 tags applied in alpha 8.10?

ID3 tags applied in 7.04 and 7.10 do not have this problem.

I've looked but haven't found anything about Intrepid using a different version of id3 compared to 7.10.

Might be an interoperability issue between the NAS and 810.

I dont know, I havent even looked at my setup to see if they are there. and i likely wouldnt unless there was some kind of bad side effect from them. what i am trying to figure out is why you care about them...

Hi,

I've had thousands of them created in folders.  Some 8k+.

Seems every time updatemedia runs another is created.

I remove the tag and zero are created.

Just want to know why.

BTW, there is a tick box in the web admin sync menu that controls UpdateMedia daemon, just untick it and that disables the daemon immediately.

It's purpose is reportedly to delete the id3 from the database and the HDD.

I was trying to use that button but it didn't seem to work.

Hi,

I've been getting cifsxxxx files created and have found that id3 tags without GEOB frames are causing the cifs to be created.  Milk and Serenity are fine but Watchmen and Inkheart create cifs.

I don't know if this is something in 810/LMCE/DNS-323 or in the coverart downloaded from amazon.

I'm having the same issue on my DNS323, the movie files that have "GEOB (General encapsulated object)" tag, cifs* files will not be created but the movie files that don't have this tag, a lot of cifs files with 0 byte get created.

Did you find out why those cifs* files get created ???

Still no progress...  the id3 tags are still being opened and written to.

At was time I was trying to find a id3 tag editor that would allow me the ability to edit the GEOB to see if that would help but the main problem seems to be the opening of all datetags.

Any updates to this? 

I have a DNS-323 as well that had 150,000 or so of the CIFS files which caused the MDs to take 25+ minutes to boot.  Powering down the NAS or deleting the files has brought the boot times to a much more reasonable 2 minutes or so.

I have the NAS marked as read only in the webadmin.  I think I will change it on the NAS as well...

I've set the device to read only in both the web admin and on the NAS' setup.  18 or so hours later and just did a search on the HDDs and no CIFS files were found- deleted all of them last night and none were added, but as that the hdds were read only so this makes sense.

I'm not running the latest snapshot, but a newer one- mid June or so with all of the updates.
