Title: Installation stuck at 98% with Blank Screenafter completion of AVWizard 10steps
Post by: anupindi007 on May 18, 2009, 07:16:46 am
Hi,
I have installed ubuntu, then installed linuxmce from alpha7 scripts and restarted the system. Successfully completed AVWizard '10  configuration steps'.  There after shows progress bar with 98% & stuck and i cannot see kde or linuxmce screen.   I am not able to identify the problem and struggling from past one week.  Could any one let me know what is the issue & steps to resolve the issues it will be great help, and thanks in advance too.

My observations as follows:
1. /var/log/pluto/running.pids shows running continuously the following files:
  - /usr/pluto/bin/App_Server (by /usr/pluto/bin/Spawn_Wrapper.sh)
  - /usr/pluto/bin/LaunchOrbiter.sh (by /usr/pluto/bin/Spawn_Wrapper.sh)

2. 20_LaunchOrbiter.sh.log says:
   20(spawning-device)  Starting... 50
   20 (spawning-device) Found /usr/pluto/bin/LaunchOrbiter.sh
Cannot register with router Return code: 1
   20 (spawning-device)   31 Device died... count=50/50 dev=20 died (spawning-device)   Aborting restart of device 20...

3. if i forcefully run(from tty2) sh /usr/pluto/bin/Start_sh & /usr/pluto/bin/Start_KDE, the KDE starts but the progress bar flickers for some time.   After some time it disappears.

4. /var/log/pluto/UpdateMedia.log says:
 - UpdateMedia::ScanFiles dir /home/public/data/pictures/flickr/2009/05/14: files found: 9
 - UpdateMedia::ReadDirectory /home/public/data/pictures/flickr/2009/05/10
 - Sync'ing db with directory...
 - Updating thumbs...
 - Synchronized '/home/public/data'.
 - Nothing to process, sleeping 2 minute...

5.  /var/log/pluto/UpdateMedia.log says:
  - UpdateMedia::ScanFiles dir /home/public/data/pictures/flickr/2009/05/14: files found: 9
  - UpdateMedia::ReadDirectory /home/public/data/pictures/flickr/2009/05/10
  - Sync'ing db with directory...
  - Updating thumbs...
  - Synchronized '/home/public/data'.
  - Nothing to process, sleeping 2 minute...

6. I have graphics card(Geforce 7050PV+ mFore 630a) issues but using time being "vesa" instead of "nv"

Configuration:
a.Mother Board: ASUS m2n68-vm
b.Ubuntu Intrepid   Ver 2.6.27-14-server
c. LinuxMCE LinuxMCE-0810 alpha2 32bit version only installed (scripts used new-installer-alpha7.tar.gz Dated 15-May-2009)
d. '10 configuration steps'-WelcomeScreen, ResolutionRefresh, VideoResolutionCounter, UISwitcher, VideoOutput, AudioConnector,A VAudioVolume, DolbyTest,DTSTest,FinalSelections.

Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for your promptly reply and for the inputs.

I have latest binary only and source.list is pointing to http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/lmce-alpha2/binary-i386/ only.

I will download "new-installer-alpha7.tar.gz" dated 15-May-2009, reinstall linuxmce and I will come back with latest updates.

Thanks,
Srinivas

Hi mocitysam.

Not necessarily to the MD - I had to add a broadcast-address to get 2.19 to dist-upgrade.

Hi anupindi007,

Here's the procedure I follow when I re-install.  Please check your procedure against this to make sure a step was not omitted

                                             Installation of LinuxMCE-0810 alpha2

Procedure:

   1. Install Kubuntu 0810 (Intrepid Ibex).

   2. After Kubuntu software has been installed perform a reboot (follow instructions on screen).

   3. After login, open the K Launch Manager to Applications > System > Terminal.

Log in as root - enter...

      sudo su -

[sudo] password for XXXXXX:   (XXXXXX is your username -The password is what you specified during the kubuntu installation.)

   4. To see the active kernel enter...

      uname -r

At the time of writing it is 2.6.27.7-generic

   5. Run aptitude update and aptitude dist-upgrade to get the latest Kubuntu updates.

      Enter...

      apt-get update
      apt-get dist-upgrade

   6. If required (Nvidia card installed), enable the most recent NVIDIA restricted (video) driver.

      This can be done by

      a) selecting the hardware icon on the task bar and activating the recommended version.

      b) navigating via the K Launch Manager to Applications > System > Hardware Drivers.
Enter your password (if required) and highlite the latest version.
Then select the Activate button to download and install the driver.

      c) If your card can not be enabled from a or b open the K Launch Manager to
Applications > Add/Remove Software Adept Installer and search for NVidia.
Select the latest binary X.org driver.

(After doing the apt-get dist-upgrade in step 5, the latest nvidia driver should be 180.)

Restart the system to activate the latest nvidia driver.

   7. After the reboot to see the active kernel enter...

      uname -r

At the time of writing it is 2.6.27.14-generic.  (The 180 nvidia driver should be active at this point from step 6.  Check the hardware icon in the task bar.)

   8. After login, open the K Launch Manager to Applications > System > Terminal.
Log in as root - enter...

      sudo su -

[sudo] password for XXXXXX:   (XXXXXX is your username -The password is what you specified during the kubuntu installation.)

   9. Enter...

      wget -c http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/new-installer-alpha-latest.tar.gz

  10. Unpack the tar file. Enter...

      tar xvf new-installer-alpha-latest.tar.gz

  11. Then change to the just created new-installer directory.

      cd new-installer

  12. Run the following scripts (in order): pre-install-from-repo.sh, mce-install.sh, post-install.sh.

      ./pre-install-from-repo.sh
      ./mce-install.sh
      ./post-install.sh

  12. When completed reboot the system.
After the restart wait for the system activity to stop.
      The A/V wizard will appear.

  13. Setup your requirements using the A/V wizard.
When you have finished the A/V setup the X window will restart.
The system will start various processes.  Please be patient as this will take a while.
(It is possible to watch system progress on console/workspace 8 - press <Ctrl/Alt> F8).

  14. When you can hear the House/Media Wizard switch back to the X window.
(<Ctrl/Alt> F7 will get you back to the X window environment.)
Complete your setup according to the Wizard.
Wait for the system to render all screens, etc.

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

Hi,
I did excatly as you described (several times :-) ).

The only thing that I can think of is that I started with 8.10 interpid server.  I also had to install fuppes as upnp was not working (it was a pain to get fuppes working.   Had to create fuppes user group as well).  I also had to install djmount. Similarly, I had reconfigure mysql as mysql was installed as part of LAMP and some users were not initialized.  I had to manually create the users and also create converge database.

I also had several issues with NVIDIA drivers - 173, 177, 180, etc.  Now I have 173 installed but am using the VESA instead of NVIDIA (Still I am not able to fully utilize NVIDIA capabilities because of driver issues)

I got the AVWizard and configured all fine.  After reboot, I seem to be stuck at Orbiter registration with the router.

If you think it will be better to redo the installation with 8.10 desktop then I will give it a shot.

Following is my installation info:
>uname -r
   2.6.27-14-server

>apt-get dist-upgrade
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
  Calculating upgrade... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

- Motherboard:  M2N68-VM
- Onboard GeForce 7050PV+nForce630a card.

I installed 3 times and followed steps 1-14. In Step 14.  X-Window starts shows progress bar(tty7) and get stuck at 98%.
   - from another terminal(tty2) run /usr/pluto/bin/Start_X.run
   - run /usr/pluto/bin/Start_KDE.sh
   - flickering happens. Shows status bar and after time out (couple of minutes) stops displaying flickering and no progress-bar after that.
   - I started using KDE.

Thanks.

Dear All,
Thanks for all your help.  Got it to work now.  The issue seems to have been the Ubuntu Server installation.  I started over again with Ubuntu Desktop installation - thanks to pigdog, and now I can see Audio Video instructions.  In the process of setting up the remote...

Thanks for your help pigdog, posde, mocitysam.

Setup Notes(used):
a. kubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386   (http://mirrors.ccs.neu.edu/releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/8.10/kubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.iso)

b. LinuxMCE scripts : new-installer-alpha7.tar.gz   (http://deb.linuxmce.org/ubuntu/new-installer-alpha7.tar.gz)

d.  Installed HVR 1600 drivers (instructions on MythTV Wiki) (http://linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb/archive/tip.tar.bz2)

e. Had display issue on reboot - "out of frequency" error.  Installed Nvidia 180 drivers; There after AVWizard says "Failed to Setup X". Changed /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to use vesa instead of nvidia. (http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/180.51/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.51-pkg1.run)

The out of frequency issue should have been resolvable by pressing one of the numeric keys, as pointed out in the wiki [urlhttp://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/AVWizard_Step_by_Step#Section_II][/url]. The nVidia driver is automatically installed.

Sorry, today only I saw your note.  Time being using 'vesa' drivers but I need to figure out the  'nvidia' drivers solution and  I need to follow your note.

I am using:
- Motherboard:  M2N68-VM
- Onboard GeForce 7050PV+nForce630a card

Any one has NVIDIA working drivers (version number) for  UBUNTU 2.6.27.

Thanks,
Srinivas

Hi,
I have changed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file with Driver = 'vesa' to 'nvidia' and rebooted.  Now there is no  "out of frequency" error shown but tty7 is blank.

I went to tty2 and changed back to /etc/X11/xorg.conf file Driver = 'vesa'.  Manually run /etc/pluto/bin/Start_X.sh &  /etc/pluto/bin/Start_KDE.sh commands and able to get back GUI.

so, is there any way to resolve the M2N68-VM on board GeForce 7050PV+nForce630a card driver  issue?

Thanks,
