Hi,
I was just reading an article about the Crunchpad.
I'm looking for something to use as an orbiter.
I like the WebPad DT366 for it's physical size and I would also like something that could be wall mountable.
I would go nuts trying to see images on something like an iPod Touch/IPhone or Nokia.
There seems to be alot of stuff about to be released for use as MD's etc.
I guess I just have to wait to see what is real. Patience, patience, patience.
Via Wired News.
"The machine is as thin as possible, runs low end hardware and has a single button for powering it on and off, headphone jacks, a built in camera for video, low end speakers, and a microphone," wrote Arrington. The Crunchpad would also have Wi-Fi, 512 MB of memory, 4 GB solid state hard drive and no keyboard.

Cheers.

$200 is basically impossible to believe! I think that is wishful thinking unfortunately!

I read in another article the original prototype missed $200 and had a more realistic retail estimate of $299. However a 2nd prototype (B) was made for much less then the original, although they didnt specify. So maybe looking at $250 or lower? $200 was the target cost to manufacture. I think MSRP was going to be around $300.

Yep.. thats what has been reported. If its based on an ATOM and the other hardware specs that have leaked then $200-250 at 'factory gate' looks about right to us. The price and the industrial design look to be excellent. Lets hope they ship this soon ;-)

Looks even better...the only possible slight gotcha is that the recent descriptions of the onboard software describe it as having a single app - Firefox... that it boots straight into (ie no desktop and a very minimal OS too). This in principle is not necessarily a problem but it might make adding a full Orbiter to it more complex or it might need a replacement OS for our puposes. Any how the form factor and price mean that its pretty much a perfect piece of hardware for us...and if it does need a new OS to make it usable I know there will be plenty of people willing to work on that!
All the best
