Title: Orbiters as phones
Post by: los93sol on March 13, 2009, 07:01:45 pm
It would be really nice to be able to use my orbiter devices that have a mic and speakers as phones, the orbiter is typically always near me so it makes sense to just use it when the phone rings, or when I want to call someone else in the house.  I'm a little confused too because for example the windows orbiter says place call from here, I'd assume that would mean from the orbiter, but it doesn't appear to be the case.  Can someone explain how this is supposed to work please?

It will try to make the call from the MD that the orbiter is controlling.

Currently I dont think there are any Orbiters with softphones integrated... I think TSCHAK has plans to add a softphone to his WebDT installation in the future. Currently if you use an Orbiter to control another MD and that MD has telphone capabilities enabled then the call will be placed on the MD not on the Orbiter. Of course you can add devices like the Nokia N770/800/810 as extensions to your installation as they actually have SIP clients installed... but the Nokia Orbiter is not integrated with these SIP clients so there is no way to make a call from the Nokia's Orbiter and have it use the Nokia SIP app.

All the best
