Title: DISKLESS SETUP FAILED
Post by: NiksaVel on February 08, 2009, 06:20:13 pm
Hi,

I keep getting the DISKLESS SETUP FAILED after the MD announces itself to the core.

I realise that I am supposed to change the amd64 to i386 for intel chipsets, but even though I change it and refresh everything, the MD reports the amd64 architecture just a few lines before DISKLESS SETUP FAILED

Under the web admin it is listed as i386.

Core is amd64 3200+ with the amd64 version installed. The MDs are intel c2d and dual core comps...

What am I doing wrong?

thanks!

Are you running 0710 or 0810?

AMD64 refers to 64 bit CPUs, not specifically AMD CPUs (AMD just got there first with, and so it was named after it). If your CPU is 64 bit then AMD64 will work, as will i386 as they are backwards compatible. That being said, I would recommend you use i386 on the core and all MDs as most people have the feeling that it is more stable, esp if you are experiencing problems. If you are booting with a 64bit CPU, then by default it will choose AMD64. You can then change it to i386 and hit Rebuild.

BTW - from memory, if you installed using the CDs (you should really use the DVD) then mixing architectures does not work.

Okay...  here are some more details as I seem to be stuck at this point:

Core:
dedicated computer that I also use for some basic surfing...  it's installed as primarily PC but the LinuxMCE core software is running all the time.
It is AMD Athlon 64 3200+ running linuxmce core 710 i386
It is a fresh kubuntu install and than linuxmce via CDs (as I have multiple partitions on the disk, using the DVD to wipe everything doesn't seem very practical)...

I've also tried the amd64 versions but had the same problem with MDs

MD:
I have one HTPC with intel dual core and 4gb ram, nvidia 9600 gt /w1g ram connected via dvi2hdmi to full hd lcd tv

diskless setup failed

tried booting my gaming comp as a MD (c2d e8400 with 4g ram, and dual sli 9800 gtx cards) with the same result.

what i've noticed is that now that I've reinstalled the core with the i386 software, the htpc was running the diskless setup script for some 5 minutes before I got the failed msg. Previously it would pop up almost immeditelly.

Some1 please help :/

Get one of the DVD images, mount it and find the PlutoMD-amd64.tar.bz2 file, then copy that to /usr/pluto/install.

btw, this is massive overkill for an MD... its not Windows after all. Understood, if it is just the hardware you had lying around, but 0.5G-1G is plenty, and video in the 6200-7300 range is perfectly adequate.

Hi,

i have exactly the same issue as NiksaVel, but i have a very slow internet connection, therefore it would take a very longe time to download the DVD image. Can someone send me the missing PlutoMD-amd64.tar.bz2 file to my e-mail account?

I plan to have win installed on the hdd so I can play some games when I feel like it on my big screen :)

@xyman2008
the files are ~750mb each

how come this files are missing?  and there is nowhere even a hint about it at the wiki pages?

i don't no why they put only one of the md files (either amd64 or i386) on the cd images.

okay... let me continue on with my problems...    I've copied the files and it ran the diskless setup okay

on second boot it started refreshing the repos (apt-get update I guess) but I got 404 not found for the last two (linuxmce) repos

the unable to setup(or find) pluto-nvidia-driver-  (or something similar) followed a few lines later

and a few lines after that I got blue screen with

AVWizard
"failed to setup x"
"ok"

and frozen at that...     further help needed pls!

so I've noticed it's the same problem at the core...
