If you haven't heard yet, Asus have launched a new device in the Eee PC range, the Eee Top
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=24&l2=169&l3=0&l4=0&model=2290&modelmenu=1 (http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=24&l2=169&l3=0&l4=0&model=2290&modelmenu=1)

Here's hoping it can be used as a MD!!!

Looks kinda cool. Noticed it has the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3450 though - not sure this is very well supported as yet..

Hopefully the improved hardware support in 8.10 will fix that

It can already with some limitations. The 1602 uses a GMA950 GPU and we are already using this model successfully. The current limitation with this model is that due to a bug in the Intel driver under 710 the backlight on the onboard touchscreen is not controlled correctly. So the only option is the vesa driver. Since the 1602 has a touchscreen the optimal UI for this hardware is UI1 and luckily the vesa driver works well for UI1. See this wiki page we have created to help you get the Eee Top 1602 up and running; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ASUS_Eee_Top (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ASUS_Eee_Top)

There is another Eee Top model just becoming available now - 1603. This model uses an ATI Radeon 3450 GPU and should work fine for UI1 & for UI2 + Overlay (based on tests we have done with other ATI 3450 based hardware). As UI1 is the optimal UI for touchscreens I would expect there to be few if any issues with the 1603 but this does need to be verified.

All the best

Andrew
