Title: Need the perfect hardware for simple end users
Post by: Afkpuz on November 26, 2008, 09:16:35 pm
Guys, I'm going to be building a LMCE system for my parents.  That means that I need hardware that is just going to work.  While I've built a system that works well, it still occasionally requires tweaking, so I'm asking for some definite hardware that I could use that you guys have personally verified to work.  They only need DVD and TV playback, so don't worry about home automation.  Also, I will be scouring the the wiki as well, but just wanted to hear some real user suggestions, not that "this piece of equipment mostly worked with some tweaking".  What are some truly plug and play hardware that you guys know of?  thanks

So, I think the main things I need suggestions for are motherboard, videocards, soundcards, and TV capture.  Any help would be appreciated and don't bother pointing me towards the wiki: I'm already researching there.

P.S. If you guys have any links to stores selling these parts, all the better!

Afkpuz: I may catch flack for this, but LinuxMCE is geared more towards being a home-automation system than just a media player. If all you need is tv/dvd, I would look at using Mythbuntu, Freevo, or maybe XBMC. -elspic

Yeah, I know LMCE is able to home automation, but I don't know if I would say it's MORE about home automation than media.  I don't use any home automation and love goofing around with my media.  It's like mythtv on steroids.  LMCE can dazzle and please just fine with only media playback and my fiire remote.  I know, I've seen several jaw drops.
