Title: could not find kernel image
Post by: splinux on August 19, 2008, 12:20:58 am
Hello,
I made a CD installation on a core.
When I try to netboot a MD, it process for a while (setup script), then I can shortly see something about DHCP, then something about stopping the MD and the MD reboots.
When is starts again, it waits for an IP from the core but does'nt receive it and the startup fails.
After waiting a few moments, the dhcp works again, but the MD won't boot because of an "Could find kernel image : 58/vmlinuz"
Via the web interface I tried to rebuild the MD and reload the router.
The vmlinuz and initmdr are present in the boot directory of the /usr/pluto/diskless/58

any idea ?

thanks,

sp

1. Have you got the core setup with 2 NICs, one connected to your external network and broadband router and the other connected to your internal network and the MD?
2. Is the internal network 192.168.80.0, and the internal interface has an IP address of 192.168.80.1?
3. The internal and external networks are not bridged in any way?
4. There is no DHCP server on the internal network except the core - this is the most important bit! (including no Windows PCs using Internet Connection Sharing)
5. The core is connected to the MD either with a direct ethernet cable or through a switch/hub (not a router)

1 : yes, I have 2 Nics connected as stated
2 : yes, and I have several other PC's who's all receives their IP from the core (dhcp server) by ex 192.168.80.253 (252, ..) I also have 2 PC's with fix IP 192.168.80.200 and 201
3 : I don't think so, it is a standard CD setup. How can I check that ?
4 : I have one windows PC in the network, but I don't use internet connection sharing, but may be there is a service running for that ? Do you know what I have to check to be sure that it is not running ?
5 : yes, in fact there are 2 switches

many thanks for your help

What versions of Kubuntu and Linuxmce are we talking about here?  And did you upgrade before installing Lmce?

LinuxMCE is supposed to be installed on a fresh Kubuntu-7.10 without updates.

Better yet, why not use the DVD install? Its at least 3-4 times faster, requires just a few key and button presses, and is much easier. You really only need the CD install if you have problems with hardware (on the DVD install) or custom requirements ....

Seems from other posts splinux wanted to re-use a box already running a slideshow on the main TV so had a lot of media on there. I'm assuming that's why the CD install route was taken.

Indeed I have a box with a lot of media on it, but that's an other one.
This one is an old test PC without DVD reader, that why I did it from the CD.
I will install a DVD reader and make a new install from the DVD.
Thanks a lot for your assistance,
