Title: Install Linux MCE on a Series 2 Tivo
Post by: R.Yan on June 12, 2008, 10:55:21 pm
I am going to be giving up my monthly Tivo Subscription soon,  (just a few more trials with Linux MCE) but I am curious if anyone has successfully loaded Linux MCE on the Tivo Hardware itself. It seems obvious to use the Tivo Hardware as the Linux MCE computer. Especially since you can find them on ebay for $40 shipped.
Please PM me if we cant talk about this openly.
Thanks

Sounds like a good idea.  TIVO boxes would have all the necessary inputs/outputs.

Anyone have any advice?

uh..

no.

The hardware is insanely closed. And any attempts to replace the firmware result in a bricked box (Because they don't pass the authentication/verification routines in the firmware.)
