Title: TV Card selection
Post by: SpyHunter on May 28, 2008, 03:58:42 am
I'm building a system for LMCE, obviously or why would I be here, I've already got everything but the remote, which at the moment isn't all that important, and the TV card. I've got a GeForce 6600 going in for the vid card and an Audigy SE 7.1 for the sound, but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend the TV card that I need. Now I'm going to be using this on a good old fashioned television, no LCD or Plasma just old fashioned picture tube its around 30 inches can't remember exact size, it also has s-video and component connection, which if I can I'll use the component. I'm mainly going to be using it for the media functions and not the home automation end of it. So could anyone recommend which of the cards out there would provide the best picture and features in a PCI card.

Forgot to add that I'm using just standard def cable, no digital or anything like that, that comes in through coaxial.

I recommend Hauppagge cards. If you have a single TV viewing need, the PVR150MCE (Usually comes with a nice remote, plug and play with LMCE) or for recording one thing while watching another, the PVR500MCE, as it has dual tuners.

Both cards are plug and play with LMCE, and will work for you out of the box. Both MCE versions of the card can be had with the MCE remote, and receiver/blaster. Again, plug and play.

Regards,

Seth

Yeah definitely Hauppagge. PVR150 is a solid choice to get you started and are fairly cheap.

I'm defiantly seeing a preference for Hauppage cards so far

I did check there, but its kind of slim, and no real way to tell what the community recommends
